Miyu looked up between Ulani and her grandmother wondering what was so well behaved about it. Didn't everyone stand still for their uncles when they made clothes for them?

Well the answer was no.


Kara laughed softly at that, "Yes, they are, my son Helen likes to make clothes, that is his art, so he insists on doing that for everyone. There are very few in the family that can get away from him."

"The Seconds are a fast maturing race," Kara replied with a bit of saddness as she began to unbutton Miyu's dress, or rather unhooking the littel buttons that kept it together, "Most races that mature by stages rather than years, tend to grow up very quickly."

Indeed she had so many adults now it was mind boggling.

Kara nodded as she helped Miyu into hers, smoothing out the feathers, she tied the obi around, tucking in behind the little angel, "Yes, that's what they're for, they're called obis where my mother came from."

It was past dinner by the time Serenity and Daeron returned. Both of them were smiling very widely as they entered the house, and both of them were obviously in very fine moods. Their day had been adventurous - but far too short. After all, a single day in the duration of an entire year is not nearly enough time for anyone to catch up on things missed - but it was all they had.

Serenity smiled down at the tiny angel and knelt down in front of her. "Hello, Miyu," she said warmly. "I see you're not shy anymore." She laughed softly and held her hands out to the tiny Second.

Ulani rose from her chair, where she had been sitting and chatting with Kara. "Welcome back," she grinned at Serenity. "I hope you both had a good day ... you certainly look as though you had." She laughed and beckoned for the two of them to come and join her and Kara by the fire.

"Ulrich and Donovan went hunting this morning, they're not back yet," she explained, knowing that Serenity would enquire as to their absence. "And Ruel ... is in his room."

Her face darkened slightly. "Though not, I suspect, for long."

"Ada always gets grumpy when we get back," Daeron complained, a frowm briefly crossing his young face.

Serenity scooped up Miyu and headed over to the couch, taking a seat beside Kara. She looked younger now than she had at the beginning of the day - she always did after a day with her grandson, though of course she herself couldn't tell. She set Miyu on her lap and started stroking her wings - absently at first, but then continuing to do so out of fascination.

Daeron grinned and bounded over to Kara, sitting on the table between her and Ulani. "We had lots of fun!" he nodded enthusiastically. "We went to a lot of new places, that I hadn't seen before! Someday," he promised, "when I'm big enough to travel by myself, I'm going to come out here a lot more often."

He nodded seriously.

Ulani smiled proudly. "That's our Daeron," she murmured.

Kara chuckled at that listening to Daeron, there was that wasn't there, she thought to herself quietly. After all Daeron wasn't going to remain a child forever, and when he was old enough to decide for himself, then Ruel couldn't have that kind of say. There was an interesting thought.

"Well then, you must study hard," she told him, "That way you're most prepared when you're old enough."


Miyu's wings ruffled like a bird's would when it got wet, She looked up curuiously at Serenity, wondering what the lady was thinking, or wondering if she was trying to groom her.
