Violet said nothing as Richard left, her eyes fixed on the flames in front of her. Slowly, as if she hadn't spoken for years she replied softly to Dom,
"I'm not saying it's going to be as if nothing ever happened, because thats impossible," she paused for a moment, letting the words sink in for a moment.
"But...i'll forgive you, if we can just forget we were ever this akward with each other," she finished, finally looking at him properly. She still couldn't believe she'd been going out with someone so popual in highschool, she always thought she was far too much of a geek for all that.

Dom nodded. He held out his hand. "So, friends?" He asked with a pleading smile.

Violet smiled, and even laughed a little as he pulled such a hopeful face. Taking his hand she nodded,
"Friends," she confirmed, then her eyes wandered to the fire. Trying not to laugh out loud she added,
"If that poor marshmellow will forgive you is another matter though," pointing with her free hand she indicated his skewared marshmellow, now melting off the stick in the heat of the fire.

Richard struggled as he made his way across the beach, spotting his car, still sitting there with one door open as if in invitation. His surfbord was still on top, strapped down with a nylon rope as its sleek surface reflected a bit of the moonlight. Finally getting there, he popped the hood open and quickly checked the components, making sure nothing was overlooked. But his heart wasn't in it. His mind was too distracted, and he slumped to the sand before taking out a cigarette, putting it to his lips and lighting it. The smoke parched his throat as he took a deep breath and seemed to dull his mind a bit from his thoughts. Something felt simply amiss, but he couldn't pinpoint it. Confusion scattered any form of reasonable thinking as he sat there, muddled and unsure of what he was doing here and why.

And Violet...

He stopped in mid-inhale. What about Violet? The smoke curled out of his nostrils. That's what he was here for. To be there when Jesper could not. Still, things didn't seem as solid as they used to.

Dom looked at the near-hanging marshmellow. "Oh, s**t!" He exclaimed. He pulled the skewer out of the fire to hard, for the piping hot marshmellow flew and stuck to his chest. "AGHHH!!" He yelled, trying to scrape the melted sweet off of his burning flesh. He dropped down on his stomach and started to roll in the scratchy sand. Finally, the marshmelow came of in the sand and Dom lay on his back, panting. His chest was bright red from the burn. "I...Don't suppose....You can help me up...." He raggedly said.

Violet quickly ran forward to help him up, biting her lip anxiously.
"Are you alright? I'm sorry i didn't mean to...," she said, quickly beginning to help him to his feet. Looking around she wondered where Richard had gone, maybe he'd heard the scream.

Dom winced at the burn. "Oh, that smarts." He mumbled. "I'll feel that tommorrow..." He chuckled. "I'm fine, Vi. Really. All I need is some cocoa butter and aloe vera and I'll be set." Dom sat back down on his rock. "So, what's going on between you and Richard?" He asked, skewering another mellow. "I can see you two have some chemistry there....Why isn't anything happening?"

Violet sat back down next to him, one eye warily watching the marshmellow. Hearing his question she blushed, quickly looked away.
"Nothings goind on, we're just friends...I mean, we've always ended up hanging out together because the others were too busy having a drama about something or other," she replied, running a her hand through her long hair again.
"He's just staying at my house for a while, if he wasn't i think he'd probably have done something else tonight then sit and help me study"

Dom chuckled while shaking his head, slowly. "Sure..." He said. "Watch...sooner or later, one of you's going to get the idea in your head that you want to be with each other. I can tell. You two like each other...you just won't tell the other." He looked down at his marshmellow as he pulled it slowly from the fire and blew it. "Perfect.." He said and stuck it in his mouth, savoring the flavor. "Delicious!" He said, licking the sticky mellow off his fingers. "I'm telling you. I think Richard likes you. And even though you're in denial, I think you like him, too." He looked over his shoulder to see Richard at his car. "Hey Richard!" He shouted over to him to get his attention. He waved, to try to get him to come back over. He looked back at Violet. "It may not seem like it, but I'm sure you guys'll be a great couple. Better than what me and you had. But, when he gets back, I'll let you guys have some private time." Dom looked back into the fire, thinking. I may still have feelings for her, but it wouldn't work out. Not after all these years. She's got a better future with Richard. I'll just play matchmaker for the moment, and move on. Like the swinger I am... A small tear came to Dom's eye. "I suppose I'll never have a family...

Richard saw the sihouette of Dom against the fire as he cursed silently to himself. He wasn't even half-way through his cigarette yet, and he really needed it this time. He waved back and held up fingers, signally to give him five more minutes. Taking a few more puffs of his cig, he glanced over at the dark rolling waves of the ocean, still a bit murky from the storm earlier that day. He enjoyed the saltiness of it, as it made him feel alive.
He finally outed it on the sand, and ran back to the fire, hoping the breeze would wash over his body and take away the rancid smell of cigarette smoke.

Dom wiped his eyes to clear the tears. He chuckled as he saw Richard running to the fire. "What took you so long?" He asked, jokingly. Then, he smelled a funny smell. Something he knew all too well. "Have you been smoking?" He gave Richard a look. "And don't lie either...I know that smell."

Richard rubbed at the back of his head, looking Dom straight in the eye. "Yeah? I don't deny it. Why, is there a problem?" He took a seat on the opposite side of the fire so as not to offend them with his smell. "S'not something I'd lie about."

Dom chuckled lightly. "You really ought to stop that, man. I mean, I didn't stop till just recently. I still cough blood up sometimes..." He started to cough really bad into his hand. When he pulled his hand away, there was some blood in his palm. "Speak of the devil." He said, flinging the blood into the fire. "But that's not why I called you back..." He said. He walked over to Richard and whispered. "I know you have feelings for Violet. Just tell her, man." He patted Richard on the shoulder. "Just tell her..." On that note, Dom started walking to the end of the beach. He got his surfboard, and took it back to his car. He put it in his trunk, and got in the car. He decided to sit in it to clear his mind...

Richard simply sat there, too dumbstruck to reply before Dom left. His thoughts scattered, he glanced over at Violet, shrugging his shoulders. Dom had probably told her the same thing along those lines, but he hoped he hadn't plant a seed into her head, a seed that could cause disastrous results. He rubbed at his bare arms, glad to be at the warmth of the fire again.
"...I think you should go first..." he whispered to Violet as he inched his way closer to her. "I know my mind is set...I just want to hear what you think first."

Violet just stared for a moment, her eyes a little wider then usual. From what Richard had said she had about half a chance at saying thr right thing, but...if she got it wrong, it could mean that she would ruin what they already had. It wasn't hard to imagine what Dom had muttered to him, but she didn't want to leap to conclusions.
"I...I..." she started but couldn't carry on the sentence. She couldn't just blurt out how much she felt for him after all these years.
