:::She looked away, to think about it a moment. It was a tough question. After a moment, she looked back at Torment:::
I suppose I couldn't really tell you for sure... but perhaps, one just has to show him that there is a better option.

*He had turned to staring off into the darkness.*
"Choices denote slight changes, but not a fundamental change in the nature of a man. Take Tac for example...honor...valor...all that is good and doughnuts. Look at him now. Feh, fine example he is. By counterexample one could put me on display. Three months ago I killed for the sheer adrenaline rush or simply because someone looked at me the wrong way...now...I...I have washed away my sins and shall not return unto them."

:::Cora suddenly felt uneasy. Torment..? Had murdered? She didn't want to believe it, she had just come to admire this man. But her stomach began to knot up. She had to stand:::
You say you've murdered....what made you change?
:::She looked upset, almost untrusting...:::

"I'll answer my own question first. I believe that it is the actions one performs and the people one interacts with, with all consequences that follow, that can change the nature of a man. The void of anybody in my father's life and his lack of initiative led to a downward spiral into depression. Though it wasn't nearly as bad as anything when I last saw him. As for myself...three, maybe four depending on your perspective, people changed my life indefinately. The first was my father. When he disappeared the first time, It cut me deep. The second and possibly third, were myself. The me I used to be clashing with a new me that came from a different timeline. Two extremes clashing with one another to form a neutral entity. The last, and certainly not least, is Kalie. She was the reason I gave up the souls of those I killed. She was the reason I repented my sins. She is the reason I'm joining the Cataclysm Division of the GPD to protect Gaia from threats even bigger than myself. She is the reason I live and breathe this day."

:::She was still fighting the urge to pass judgement on Torment, her thirst for justice flared... but out of respect, and out of hope that he meant what he said, she restrained herself:::
:::Still not completely free of her cold tone::: It must be good. To have some one mean so much to you...
:::Cora took up her seat again, but not as comfortably. She was busy thinking anyway...::: I have no people in my life... if I ever do...will I change as well?

*He paused and then twitched slightly, slowly turning to look at Cora.*
"You cannot say there is no one in your life. Those you interact with are a part of your life, friends, family, whatever. Here at the Brink you have a family, wanted or not. We have already changed you Cora, The first time I saw you I saw but only faint traces of emotion, conditioned by your life to exclude them from your daily activities. But no...I see emotion in your eyes. Plain as the wings on my head it is."
*As he spoke his eyes seemed to turn from their greyer shade closer to purple, it should be just a trick of the light, but the light never changed in the Brink.*

:::Cora noticed the change in his eyes...she'd never seen that before...but then, before the Brink she'd never seen or known a lot of things. She thought she was very well off in her world. She was happy, protecting people, protecting strangers...:::
You asked me why they made me a first rank officer...the answers I gave you were factual, but a very empowering prerequisite of First Rank Officer is that you have no one to lose...nothing to lose.
I don't feel as if I have changed...I am the person I have always wanted to be...the person no one in my world ever had time to notice...I didn't have time to notice.
:::she realized how insensitive her earlier comment was::: Forgive me. I didn't mean that I didn't have anyone in my life. The people here...I suppose they are my people now...
Most of it is thanks to you... :::She looked him in his deepening eyes:::
I hardly know you Torment. But I know that you have made me release emotions I forgot I had. And for that perhaps I owe you everything. Please let me help you, however I can.

Fate conspires in some wierd ways...I think Cora might be more like Tac than one might think, judging by the surface anyway.
"Well I'm glad I was able to help you 'out of your shell,' as it were."
*He slid off his stool and glanced around the bar area. He slowly brought his gaze back to Cora, blinking once and turning his head down towards the ground.*
"Cora, I appreciate your willingness to help, but I think he needs time to work out his own demons for a while. Maybe after we all give him some time something can be done, but not just yet...."

Yes sir.
But...what happens if he comes back here? What if it's not me he tries to hurt next time? I would never forgive myself. :::She had her promise to Maggie in mind:::

*He grimmaced slightly at him addressing him as sir.*
"If he returns and tries to harm anyone, break the leg off a chair and beat the crap out of him with it. Heh, might beat some sence into him. But seriously, don't sweat it. Just try to keep your distance, or get a barrier between the two of you and if he charges and doesn't advert his horns, god help u...."
*With that he seemed to split in two, each piece a whole, but a mere shade of Torment. He tries to reach out to Cora as if to try to stay, but he fades out entirely.*

Torment! ... :::Her face fell...she was alone again...she already missed him...an odd longing she'd never felt before...she was starting to get used to new sensations:::
:::She sat at the bar... and noticed herself staring at the spot he was just sitting:::
Sigh....

*What seemed to be an almost feral grunting filled the air. Just the sound of it was enough to strike fear in the heart sof the weak willed. Tacitus had blinked in in the center of the bar, crouched down and in a state that seemed similar to sleeping. His horns had grown only slightly longer, but now looked as if they had been sharpened. Each horn had a holster attatched to it where two pistols nearly half the size of an AK 47 were slung during his less active periods. One was a brilliant orange with streaks of green running through it and the other was a deep green with orange darting through it. The colors were masked slighly by blood in some places. Where his horns met his head Tac had festering wounds that oozed a black pus-like fluid.*

:::Cora suddenly heard movement behind her, she whirled around in her seat, hoping Torment might have already returned:::
Torm- :::GASP:::
::: Phenominal...exactly what I hoped I wouldn't have to go through. This place sure does have it's ways about it. Cora's attitude seemed to rise to the occasion:::

*At her gasp the figure moved and slowly stood, pulling the holsters from his horns and placing them somewhere in his coat. His trenchcoat, now unfurled, was all in patches and seemed to be long enough to hold five men standing on top of one another. He slowly stood as a gurgling sound rolled out from his throat before he spoke.*
"ccccCora. I warned you....but people...they never listen. I try to look out for the well being of others and what do I get? I get kicked in the face, blown up, shot at, downright insulted! I want respect! I deserve respect! I'LL NOT STAND FOR IT ANYMORE!"
*He was nearly roaring like some sort of demon with the last statement. Blood from his festering wounds ran down his face as he advanced on Cora.*

:::When faced with fight or flight reaction decision, her body always chose fight...so she followed orders. She picked up the stool she was sitting on a moment ago, and ripped off one of the legs, with quite the ease:::
Officer Tac...you look like you've been through quite a bit since I last saw you.... me too.
