Our band only has three but one of our judges put on a comment sheet saying that we need at least 6 horns or switch a few flutes over to play our music.

I don't have a problem with a flautist(is that right?) playing a french horn but I think he meant for a flute to play french horn music.

The string on my 3rd key is fraying and I have a concert tonight And I had to leave my horn at school so I couldn't fixit. Only noticed in band at lunchtime. I'm terrified in case it breaks half way though.

I've got a school Horn, and it really sucks. The sound is bright, and the Bb tuning slide is stuck.
Does anybody find double tonguing to be difficult? I haven't had much time to work on it; I'm a busy student. On top of it all, we're playing the William Tell Overture in my youth symphony group. Can you even imagine trying to single tonugue the 3rd Horn part at the allegro vivace? It's not fun.

It didn't break!!! *happy* I still need to replace the strings though. I just need to get some string. Mechanical valves are much easier to look after.
Double tounging. Do either ta-ka or da-ga depending on the type of tone you want. Then just change it to ta-ka-ta/da-ga-da or ta-ka-ta-ka/da-ga-da-ga depending on what you need to do. Or even mix up the ta/da ka/ga depending on where you want emphasis. I don't know what the Willian Tell Overture is like so you just see what works best for you. I need to work on my tonguing too, trying to do Mozart Concerto No.4 Rondo. It's hard.
