Walking through the grounds of the estate now felt so foreign. Why had she left the only home she knew, now to come back to it. Maybe in the hope of seeing the only one she felt love for besides her son. Kenshin, it felt like an eternity had gone by without seeing him. The breeze cold and refreshing stung bringing a deep pink to her cheeks. Dante now two years of age, lay sleeping soundly warm on a blanket in the soft beach sand. She stood arm crossed staring at the high tide splashing against the rocks deep in thought. The stars and moon reflected off the water made it look like the night sky had sunk into the dark ocean.

((ooc: damnit rinel you always do that... I've never gotten use to the way you elaborate, and you always outgun me... You really are intellectually intimidating. xd ))

Kenshin turned and began strolling back to the manor. Yanked suddenly out of his deep thought, Kenshin swiveled around to hear a loud splash, just along the coast, he could sense an old and familiar presence, but for a second he saw nothing. Furrowing his brow he watched as he saw a figure waist deep emerge from the frigid waters, wading back to the shore. "What in Hell's wrath could be foolish enough to go swimming at this time of...", but before he could finish his sentence aloud, he realized who it was, and immediately was upon her, lifting Calli out of the water and resting her back ashore. Once she was standing on her own two feet again, Kenshin released her, staring at her with his beatiful face, a lost gaze sporting a compelling look of curiousity in his sunken black eyes. A crooked grin spread across his face as he smirked teasingly,"My word, dear Calli, whatever are you doing out so late?"

((Lol, I'm sorry. I don't get to do guild posts that often any more. I like long posts ^_^ ))
Calli had waded back up to her knees when she was suddenly lifted out of the cold waters as if she weighed nothing. Blinking as she was set down on the dry shore, she looks up at Kenshin and blushes, shivering a little as the wind blew, ruffling both of their hair about their faces. Looking up at him, she saw his face was the same beautiful face as always. After all, it had only been a year, and they were vampires. Yet, while they looked the same, she found her feelings were so much more confused now. Calli didn’t really know how to greet him, or what to say. As he smiled his crooked grin, she hesitated, almost looking down, and shrugs. ”I was er… going for a walk, and I slipped.” She tells him simply enough. ”Anyways, thank you for pulling me out. What are you doing out here?” She asks curiously, glancing up to him, wondering what he might be thinking behind those black eyes. It had been so long since they had talked, she felt like she didn’t even know him any more. Some people might tell her that was for the best, but she wasn't sure she wanted to believe it.

Kenshin noticed that he was faintly leaning toward her, and in a split second, he'd made a cautious and curtious step back, looking away from Calli's gaze and keeping a stone gaze out seaward. Kenshin mustered a half-hearted chuckle. "Heh, just like the old Calli to be clumsy", he said under a hushed tone, just audible enough for her to hear. In a much more normal voice he replied,"Well..... I don't know." He sighed deeply, his far-out gaze turning to penetrate Callie once more. "I guess I came to try and think clearly.... and make sense of this confusion in my life... Sometimes, things can be so stressfull y'know..." Kenshin slipped his hands into his pockets, letting another breeze sweep his hair across his face. He went back to staring off into the distance, trying to mask his apparent suffering.

Calli noticed him leaning toward her, and… she felt her heart beating just a little faster. For a moment, she imagined them sharing a kiss, circumstances be damned… but then reality took over, and he stepped back. Calli hesitates, looking down as he turned his gaze away. But, then she heard his comment, almost quiet enough to have been missed. Smiling softly, she blushes a little, then takes a deep breath, getting rid of the expression on her face as he spoke normally again. Calli glances up, her gaze pausing on his intense look as it felt like it pierced her soul, as it had many times before. When she’d first come back to the Haven, she’d tried to hide her inner emotions from him, but now she saw no point. He always read her too well. At his words, she nods quietly in understanding, watching him turn his gaze back out to the ocean. She wasn’t as good at reading people as he was… but she could see the pain he was in, and it made her heart ache for him. Sighing softly, she looks out at the waves too, frowning softly as she thinks. ”Life has become so different… hasn’t it?” She asks quietly after a moment. ”Things used to make sense… but it all changed so fast… it all spun out of control.” She mutters, thinking about everything since that day they’d been caught in the Great Hall. She wished they could go back to that day, undo how it ended. She didn’t know about him, but life wouldn’t seem so confusing if that day hadn’t happened the way it had. After a moment, she laughs a little, almost bitterly. ”But look at me, full of wishful thinking. I guess it doesn’t do, to try and change the past, does it?” She asks, looking down again. After all, it was what had gotten them into that mess in the first place.

Kenshin listened to her wholeheartedly, sharing the even more bitter pain that she felt. He nodded slightly, blinking in agreement to Calli's question. To him, it wasn't as much of a concern for his public figure as the affect that it could have on her. Luckily, the word of Kenshin's affair had skipped many ears, and hadn't spread like rumors normally did about the Haven. Like it had been for the many, many centuries, that was only another one of his plethora of secrets to be enshrouded in his dark, forsaken past. But it caused them to normally evade each other's presence, for fear for being spied on again. The last time they'd been caught, it was by his mistress' bodyguard, the worst person to report something of that kind of news. The verdict of the issue, as Kenshin clearly remembered in vivid detail, was that although Calli had upset Arwen, she was allowed to stay on condition that she kept her distance from the Him and her-- for Calli's own safety. Arwen had all the reason to resent her, but Calli was a good friend to Kenshin, and she'd nowhere else to go. Banishing Calli in a place this huge was beyond necessary. Kenshin guffawed at Calli's last comment, swaying unevenly. "Well.... I wouldn't say that...", he muttered, stupidly hoping that last bit would slip past Calli's armed ears. Kenshin had thought about it time and again: he had the power to go back into the past a certain length, with the help of one of his swords, but why hadn't he done it? Mixed feelings didn't confirm that he regretted what they'd done together, but what they had obviously was wrong. But could it be helped at this point? No. Hope that the feelings they had for each other would vanish was now a paradox. Kenshin sighed deeply, shoving his hands into his pockets.

Calli glanced up as Kenshin laughs, of course catching what he said afterward, and hesitates, not sure how to respond, before she looks away again, thinking. She wished that what he said was true, that the past could be changed. Of course she was thinking figuratively, not literally. It would be so easy to pretend they hadn’t been caught, to start being close again like they had been before. Ever since that day, she’d been like an outcast around here. People didn’t talk behind her back or anything cruel like that, but that was because almost nobody knew her. She was kind, but she was only open with a few people, mainly Kenshin, Chidori and Iokomota. And Chi and Ioko had been gone for a while. When she and Kenshin had stopped being able to talk… well, she hadn’t really had anybody to talk to for the past year at all. She missed him, missed just being friends, if that was all they could be… but if they were caught again… ”Kenshin-…” Calli starts to say, glancing to him briefly, then sighs and shakes her head, glancing away again, at a loss for words. She wanted things to be the way they had been, and she knew he felt the same way, but if they got caught, she’d be the one to get kicked out of this place, the one to be alone. Arwen would probably always take him back. She didn’t have anybody to return to, though. She hated feeling this alone.
She also hated feeling this sorry for herself. She wished a lot of things were different, but that wouldn’t make them change. She should accept that. Taking a deep breath, she runs a hand through her hair, then puts on a smile. ”It was nice seeing you again, but I should go now, before I catch cold.” She tells him, vaguely waving to her still wet robes, before she turns and starts to walk away again, back towards the haven.

Kenshin sigh one last time, looking back at Calli longingly... "It was...", he said, donning a sickly mischievous glare. Over the years before the incident, and in between time, they'd gotten attached to playing certain games. Games that masked their true intent of feelings. As a mass of clouds off in the distance rumbled with predicament, Kenshin gazed up at the brightly lit full moon. Tonight, Kenshin felt an itch of excitement as he let Calli walk away. "...Calli....", he called her name out, waiting for her to turn to the sound of his voice. But before Calli could leave the beach entirely, Kenshin was in front of her, sword drawn. He swung his sword at her with a thrust of his fist, beckoning for her reaction, a sly grin blessing his beautiful stone face. The game was on.

Calli was about halfway down the beach, trying her best not to look back or stop, for fear that her resolve would crumble if she got another look at him, when she heard him call out to her. Without pausing to think, she immediately turned back around, her golden blond hair catching the moonlight and shining brightly as it swung in an arc about her shoulders. ”Yes?” She responded almost hopefully, then blinked in surprise as Kenshin appeared before her instantaneously, or so it seemed to the naked eye. Calli saw the flash of a blade, and caught on immediately with a smile. As he thrust his sword at her, she spun out of the way with ease and summoned her staff in the same move as she faced off against him. She had forgotten this game, but now it came back to mind. The games they had played time and time again to hide their true feelings. After all, who would suspect them when they were supposedly trying to kill each other? Rivals fought, enemies fought, so it never raised suspicions when they decided to spar. They could still spend time together then, without raising suspicion. Realizing this, Calli smiles too, meeting his gaze for a moment, before she smacks her staff into the ground, causing a ripple to spread out through the ground, till it reached him, a set of stone spikes shooting up at him.

Kenshin snickered at such a lenient attack, pivoting into the air and twirling at a safe enough speed to deflect each stone spike with graceful precision. At the same time, this move allowed him to give room bewteen them to plan their next attacks. But he didnt dare stop yet! he continued a repetitive line of backflips until they were a little less than one-hundred yards apart, sheating his blade for the time being: he had devised a better plan to see if he could throw her off this time.
Grinning with a feverishly crooked smile he dropped into a low stance, feet well planted to the ground. But then he twisted his kees and curled his arms, tucking one under the other and using the left as if it were a puppet-- no-- a snake head. After this display, he coiled his arm back and struck the air, a wave of black matter forming at his will in the form of pellets-- that headed straight for Calli at a healthy pace, homing in on her. Kenshin swung out a leg and scooped a low kick into the air near the ground, sending out another wave of the strange dark matter missiles at her. These movements wavered the sand, kicking it up in its shear speed and force. Kenshin waits only a second before following after them, swirving in a zig-zag as he comes after her to follow up with a closer attack.

Calli’s eyes followed him as he moved, watching him leaping and spinning in the air, avoiding her attacks with grace and ease. They were both such competent athletes and acrobats, half of the joy of the fight was in the movement. Of course… she thought as many back flips as he decided to throw in was just a bit unnecessary. ”Showoff!” She shouts down the beach at him, smiling, then gets in a ready stance as she saw him sheath his blade. She knew something more was coming up.
And she was right. A moment later, she saw the black pellets flying down the beach at her, their speed stirring the sand in sharp trails behind them. She didn’t know what the dark matter would do if it struck her, but she didn’t intend to find out. Taking a deep breath, she flips back in the air to avoid the pellets in a complex dance of twists and turns of her body as she goes from backflip to ducking and rolling into more flips. Calli also used the wind with her magic, knocking the ones she missed off course and away from her. After a few seconds, the first wave was done, and she landed lightly on her feet, in time to see the next group, a good wave of pellets. Smirking, she gets down in a crouch, almost mirroring him, as she then brought her foot back, then swung it forward, using magic to amplify the kick as a gust of strong wind flew at the pellets, smashing into them and scattering them. From there, she stood back up out of the kick and braced herself with her staff as he was right there, ready to throw his closer attack.

Kenshin watched carefully, coordinating her movements as she took out each dark-matter pellet. He flashed his sardonically dirty grin, impressed at how she managed to eliminate the second round of his attack. But his offensive move was far from over. Kenshin flash-stepped a few times, to see if Calli could keep up his this new pace, his form appearing and disappearing again like a ghost to the naked eye.
Where he stood once before though, sand flitted up large clouds, spraying left and right making for an impressive sight to any bystanders from a distance, if anyone was to be watching. In a matter of seconds, he was upon her, sliding in at a breakneck speed, like a ball-player aiming for base. Sand billowed up from where his heel dug into the beach, his hand outstretched as if he were attempting a grappling move on her ankle. "Striking python!", he yelled as he executed his close-quarter move. His eyes remain locked onto Calli's as he slid toward her, but flashed delightfully, right before he faded, yet again. A fake-out maneuver? But his form appeared again in the sand-- no to her left, and her right, and just above her! Which one was the real one and which were the illusions? Calli would have to make her choice very carefully.

Calli tenses in an almost crouch, her staff held before her, as she focuses her vampiric senses completely. It almost felt like time slowed a fraction or two, as she watched Kenshin flash-stepping across the sand. It took immense concentration, but she could follow him well enough as he approached, kicking up the sand in his wake. Calli smiles again as she noticed the after effects, thinking to herself he was showing off again quite a bit. But, there was no time to think too much on that, as a moment later, he had reached her. Seeing him sliding in, she does a quick flip back to dodge. However, when she landed, she saw him flashing in and out again. Scowling, she glanced around, seeing him appear to her left, right, and… oh great, just above her too. Well, only one was real. There was no time to think, so Calli went with her instinct. Ignoring the obvious attack from above, she brings her staff up to bear, to block his left form. After all, her right side was her strong side. It argued the best that he would go for her weakest side. Of course, he could use that sort of logic against her, and get a perfect opening at her. But sometimes fighting was a gamble, so she threw all of her block into the left side without hesitation.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 05, 2009 7:57 am

Kenshin hissed at the first miss, miscalculating her ease at dodging, but smiled when he had found that she had played right into his next trap. In slow motion, it all became apparent that Callie had chosen the wrong side to guard: the image above her, which she had suspected, dissipated into the air, as did the figure below her, leaving only her left and right. But as she held her defense up to her left, her gambling intuition became her loss.
As the image of Kenshin neared her-- so close that it could have breathed in her face-- then faded slowly, something like a yank could be felt before the force of gravity both defied and destroyed her stance. In one quick second, Kenshin grabs her by the arm and leg, pulling Calli to her left, the direction she'd pushed on. This triggered a gravitational reaction that swooped her into the air; Kenshin, grinning wildly now, swivels on his heels, throwing Calli over his body and into the sand, making it seem like he also lost his footing. He lands effortlessly atop her sprawled body, his face only inches from hers in a mocking gesture. He takes this moment to gaze deep into her eyes and take in her sweet scent, before clutching the sides of her kimono and rolling onto his back, throwing her into the air.
