Cress tapped her snout again, her go-to thinking pose, before cracking a toothy grin, "A celebration for me too?" No one had ever celebrated her before, it was flattering! She chortled, pleased with the idea, before nodding her head. "Alright, sure! I'll tell them," she agreed, before leaning over to pat both Chickpea's and Dune's head. "Don't worry though, I get that celebrating friendship reunions is important. So, just leave it to me!"
Christian sucked his teeth before snapping his fingers, clearly 'disappointed' that he wouldn't go wild with Jun's money. "There go my plans to buy a brand new car..." he moped, before chuckling at his own, so-so, joke. "Don't worry, bud, I'm a cheap date." So very cheap, and simple too! He was like a fish.
He tapped his foot against the ground absently, eyes roaming the shelves along with Jun -- just so that he could also look like he knew what he was doing. That is until Jun brought up traveling together, those five magical words. "Yeah, sure! It'll be fun, maybe we can do 'typical gym stuff' together." Honestly, this was exciting, it'd be starting a new game with an NPC guide. But, Jun was better than an NPC, and much more enjoyable to hang around.
"Sounds like we've got to celebrate!" Cress interjected, waddling over to the two humans with her trademark grin. "You guys, deciding to travel together. Dune and Chickpea reuniting, and me joining the team! That's a lot of things going on! So, we should celebrate! Preferably with food. Let's celebrate by getting something to eat!" She said this while looking directly at Jun, i.e. the piggy bank of their group. Cress held her hands up, "What do you say?"

Dune's eyes (which were closed shut and not visible) sparked. [ "You're the b-best, Cress!"
"I don't think me paying for everything qualifies you as 'cheap'," Jun mentioned as he read the ingredients on the back of a tin of seasoning. He'd already switched gears and started buying enough stuff for two people, tossing the extra stuff into a basket for Christian. He eyed Christian for a moment, but he was pretty sure the 'date' comment was just a joke.
"How do you know you can even drive?" Jun asked, continuing down the line of supplies. The choices were sparse compared to an actual grocery or outfitter's store, but the pokemart was specifically geared towards travelling trainers and so made up for the lack of options with everything being right next to each other and all in one place. "Besides, if I'm paying for everything, it means I get to pick out what I like," he added, "...Unless you're allergic to something." Oh ********. Christian'd better know what he was allergic to.
Jun was glad he now had a travelling buddy that wasn't a little blond-haired leech like the last one. Wait <********> he totally was.
Jun was glad he now had a travelling buddy that he liked.
"You're pretty good at that, you know," he mentioned to Christian, about the last thing he'd said. 'Typical gym stuff'. "If I didn't know you'd lost your memory and had no idea what you were talking about I'd assume that was a joke." He smirked using the side of his mouth opposite Christian and put the last stuff in the basket.
Of course, Cress chose that moment to once again flat-foot Jun with her cheery, very reasonable words. This one is trouble, isn't she? He huffed a good-natured sigh. "All great points considering you don't have to pay." Jun glanced at Dune and Chickpea, who were watching them with clear anticipation. He assumed Cress had thought of it and gotten the two on board to press-gang Jun into agreeing. "Yeah, sure. Why not." It would be nice, he thought, to celebrate something. "Come on Christian, let's get this stuff paid for so we can go."
"Pssh!" Christian scoffed. "That's all relative! I'm cheaper than a lot of folks," he amended, even as he caved and grabbed the potions he'd previously been eyeing. "'Sides, all I'll ever ask for is, probably, food, and a few other things. Every now and then." Still, as nonchalant as his attitude was, Christian was keeping an eye out on what extra items Jun was grabbing, and while he couldn't tally up the exact costs, he did know he couldn't sit on his hands for long. Maybe he could find a job...
"How do you know you can even drive?"
Now that was a good question, and if he was going to look for a job he'd need to make sure it didn't require that specific skill. Outwardly, Christian only grinned. "That's the sort of thing you ask only once you're behind the wheel!" he remarked, breezily. He shrugged his shoulders, not so much to say that he 'didn't know' whether or not he had any food allergy, but that he was fine with Jun having the final say in purchases. "Fine with me," he assured, verbalizing his thought process. "I'm pretty sure I don't have any allergies." Considering his great, solo, debate on cashews versus almonds, he knew he wasn't allergic to nuts. Dairy, gluten, eggs, and citrus fruits could also be checked off, going off the foods he'd eaten in the past week.
Jun's question brought up a strew of other, important, questions he hadn't even considered until now. Did he have any other allergies? And what was his blood type? Were there any medicines he was sensitive too? Was he up-to-date on all his shots?! These were all, probably, answers a doctor's visit would fix up, but doctors were expensive... Great concerns like these could be dealt with at another point.
"Well, thanks. I always try and keep a nonchalant, is-he-or-is-he-not-serious attitude, it keeps from rousing suspicion," Christian joked. He slipped his hands behind his head, in an effort to keep himself from touching anymore items, like a child, as he'd looked to busy them. He inclined his head towards Cress when she approached, and stifled a snort at her proposal.
Sure, it hadn't been that long ago since lunch. But, yeah, he could eat.
Cress only kept her grin, eyes remaining on Jun. "I'm a pokemon! I can't pay," she pointed out, cheekily. Still, she was a well-mannered Totodile, and when Jun agreed to the celebration, Cress made certain to convey her gratitude. "Thanks a bunch, Jun!" She dipped into a quick bow before hustling back to Dune and Chickpea. "There you guys go! We're going out to eat!"
As excited as his pokemon were at the prospect of food, Christian obediently followed Jun to the front counter, so that the former could pay for their items. "What are you in the mood for, Ju-ju?" Juju, Juju beans, Jun. This would be his officially nickname, though it was longer than the man's actual name. "Whatever it is, hopefully it's more filling than a corn dog, yeah?"

Dune swished his tail back and forth, unable to believe what just happened. It was like magic! [ "Th-thanks, Cress! Oh, I wonder what we're gonna e-eat." He was imagining more sweets, or maybe they would eat something like what Jun and Christian got to eat, that they hadn't shared. As much as he was fine with what his diet had been up until now, Dune was pretty excited to be eating stuff other than dirt all the time. [ "I hope it's warm." ] Dune loved warm stuff the best. He wondered if Chickpea had any favorites. Maybe after they'd tried a whole bunch of stuff, they could compare what they liked best! That would be really fun.
Christian seemed pretty sure he didn't have any allergies, but Jun was still imagining his new friend keeling over after eating a cashew. "Alright, well, if you die after eating something I feed you I'm not taking the blame," he stated, placing scanned items in his pack while the cashier tried to figure out what the ******** his customers were talking about. "Though if you call me that again I might do it one purpose," he added mildly.
Though it actually didn't bother him that much to be called weird stuff, it did feel a bit weird. After all, Jun was.... already as short as a name could get. "At least be a bit more creative. Something like June-y-kins, or June-y-wune-y," she stated, completely serious.
The cashier, who had now figured out that this was just the usual lovers' teasing, piped up with their total. There was no bagging help needed, as Jun had already been efficiently sliding things into their bags (he'd divvied the weight up equally, even though he was pretty sure he could've gotten away with shoving the heaviest stuff at Christian).
He gave their early dinner a moment's thought. He hadn't been planning on eating in town at all, but now that it was a possibility he was thinking he'd might as well actually go for something he'd enjoy. "I've got an idea. You ever gone to a Korean barbecue place?" Because now he was thinking about something he'd heard a couple years ago, from a -ahem- friend who came from the Violet City area. When he'd been able to manage it, those make-it-yourself restaurants were his favorites. Get just what you want, cooked just the way you liked it, but no bothering with prep or clean-up.
Cress, between her chuckling, nodded her head towards Dune."Anything for you two! You're my favorite pokemon, right now!" She saluted the pokemon, then proceeded to march ahead of them so that she could catch up with the humans. Chickpea watched her go off, a bit of awe in his eyes, before he turned to look at his friend. "I hope so too! Warm food is the best, and it warms your belly up too," he gushed, and wiggled his leaf. He was happy to eat (a trait he and his trainer shared), and looked forward to the meal, and enjoying it with Dune nonetheless!
Christian snorted, though remained wholly unfazed. "Just promise me that you'll attend my funeral," he urged. "Gotta have at least one person lay down flowers for me -- and take care of my pokemon for me." He paused, catching the cashier's dumbfounded expression, then flashed a grin to him. "What's wrong with Juju? I think it's cute."
He considered the two, alternate, options Jun suggested, only to ultimately pull a face. "I didn't think you were into pet names like that," Christian mused, then shrugged his shoulders as he adjusted the new weight in his bag; now he felt like a real 'trainer', with a bag full of stuff! "Alright," he conceded, "I'll think of something different. Just give me a bit of time." Maybe after a full dinner he would be able to come up with something.
Christian hummed as he thought over Jun's suggestion. He... didn't think he'd ever eaten at a place like that, but he was always willing to try something once! And, from the way his stomach was growling, he was all for it too. "If I haven't, that'll change pretty soon," he answered, animatedly. While tempted to rush ahead, Christian held back... mostly because he didn't have a clue of where to go! "You think they'll let us keep our pokemon out?" Hopefully it wouldn't be a sanitary, or safety, issue to have their team with them.

Dune tried not to gape too much after Cress said he and Chickpea were her favorite pokemon (right now). Maybe they were kind of the only pokemon she knew right now, but even still, she said it so boldly! Gosh, she really was so cool.
[ "Hey Chickpea, have you ever eaten dirt?" ] Dune asked, turning his attention back to his friend. He'd found out from Ledian that dirt and sand and stuff wasn't the usual stuff pokemon ate, but he was curious. [ "Or sand? Like, nice, warm sand?" ] Or, oooohhh, rock salt... mmm.
"Just come up with something before you die," Jun said, hefting his back onto his shoulders. "Nothing says funeral like a good eulogy from JuJu Bean," he stated wryly, digging out his phone to look up the address of the place he'd heard of. He paused when Christian mentioned the pokemon. Oh...yeah. Right. It was weird to even think of people caring about pokemon sharing the table at a restaurant, and then he remembered they were hoping to do just that.
Clicking into the link to see if there was any info about pokemon eating, he stated, "Good question," adding just enough fake wonder to make it sound like he was surprised Christian thought of a good question. "Says here 'pokemon welcome'. Guess it's fine." A good thing, he'd have been damn disappointed if they had to skip on it because of the pokemon.
The place wasn't too far, and before they even stepped inside smells of grilled meats was wafting through the air. The place was crowded, but there were still a few open tables on different sides of the restaurant. The whole place was split into two styles, with the left having lower tables with floor seating and the right having higher tables with long and wide benches. Pokemon could be found on both sides, though it looked like the floor seating was best if you had a lot of pokemon with you. Yeah let's...not bring out Cricket in a place with an open flame. He'd order extra and cook it later for the other pokemon, maybe. He wasn't used to treating his pokemon, but he understood how to be fair.
"Hey, table for two. And...friends," he said to the woman behind the front desk. While she was grabbing menus, Jun looked for Cress. "Keep an eye on Cress," he mumbled to Christian. She seemed to be pretty smart about things, but something about a restaurant filled with people and open stove tops screamed "bad idea" with her around.
"Would you like bench or floor seating?" the woman asked, menus in hand. Jun looked to Christian for the answer. "You have a preference?" Jun was fine with either, since he'd grown up eating off cushions and only really started using chairs after he left home.
If it were possible, Chickpea would have raised an eyebrow. Instead he tipped his head, away from Dune, and contemplated his question. "Not intentionally," he eventually answered, a memory of him face-planting into the ground and popping back up with a mouthful of dirt resurfacing. "I didn't really like its taste. The same goes with sand. But, I kind of like how gritty? the sand is!" Now, he didn't go around shoveling sand into his mouth, but he didn't mind how crunchy it could be -- the taste still put him off, however. "Do you have a favorite kind of dirt ooorrr sand?" Chickpea questioned his friend, assuming he'd asked him for a reason.
Christian, barely suppressing a snort, flicked two finger guns to Jun. "Will do, boss. But, you've got to admit: a JuJu Bean eulogy would be memorable." He strolled slowly down the street, occasionally tossing his head back to check on the pokemon, then hummed his approval at Jun's confirmation. "Alright. We're in business now."
He made certain to breathe in deeply when they drew closer to the restaurant, appreciatively inhaling the enticing smell of cooking meat. Christian patted his stomach soothingly, its impatient growls audible, and silently promised it food, soon. The restaurant's layout was interesting, and while he tried to pay attention to the seating, the blonde's attention was instantly drawn to the many grills dotted about, several with food atop of them.
"I'll be on her like white on rice," Christian promised, admittedly distracted; mmmm, rice. Several seconds passed before he tore his gaze away from the food and placed it onto Cress. "I don't think the staff will be as understanding as the ones at the carnival," he cautioned. "So! Let's not do anything that would get us kicked out." Cress shook her head gently, but at the same time she dragged a claw over her chest, "Cross my heart and hope to die! Though... considering I'm half ghost, I'm sort of already dead." She cackled at that, and Christian, both amused and relieved at her compliance, chuckled along.
He cleared his throat, took in a breath, turned to look at the hostess and Jun. "Floor works for me," he answered, keeping the pokemon in time. It'd probably be easier for them if they all just sat on cushions, right? The hostess nodded before gesturing for the duo and their pokemon to follow her as she led them to their table. Christian dusted his pillow off before he sat down on it, and flashed a smile to the hostess as she handed off their menus, and wasted no time in cracking it open. "What are you thinking of getting?" he inquired, already looking over the entree choices.

Lucille woke up to find that she had fallen asleep during her trek to Violet City. Rather, she found herself on Samson's back, a line of drool going down the poor Arcanine's mane. Huh, wha? Oh, sorry, Samson. She stirred, which caught Samson's attention. The large dog stopped and lied down so his trainer could dismount with ease. When she did, her back popped and she let out an inaudible grown. You might be fluffy, Samson, but you're not a great bed, she thought. A few stretches seemed to fix everything, and after quickly scarfing down a granola bar, Lucille walked along with Samson into the city proper.
Their first stop was a Pokemon Center; even though they had done a great job beating that creep in the park, Lucille's pokemon had taken a beating themselves. Lucille returned Samson, and brought her balls up to the counter. "Good morning! How may I help you?" asked the nurse. Lucille flipped her headset on, and carefully put the larynx band to her neck. "I need my Pokemon healed up, please," she said. The nurse was a little surprised by the voice, but the look on her face was far better than what Lucille's old electrolarnyx would provide. "No problem, dear! If you'll just wait over there, we'll have your Pokemon right as rain." Lucille handed them over, and took a seat on a couch in the lobby.
As she sat, she made a blog entry on her laptop, talking about everything that had happened, as well as answered some email from her worried-sick parents. She tried to assure them that she was fine, and that she had visited Aunt Laura, and learned survival techniques from a cool guy and his daughter, and her latest aspiration of being a Pokemon Ranger. Speaking of...how did one become a Ranger? Lucille sent of her email, and started to research whatever she could on the subject.

While her Pokemon were being tended to, Lucille was able to get quite a bit of information on becoming a ranger. It turned out, there was a Ranger School, where aspiring rangers go to learn the ropes and take on missions. It all sounded so cool to the young lady. Now that sounds exciting! I wonder how hard it'll be? Is there a test you have to take? I hope there's not a lot of running... Nevertheless, Lucille closed her laptop, filled to the brim with determination. After she retrieved her Pokemon, she headed out, ready to get moving.
At least, that was the plan. A quick check in her bag showed that she was running low on supplies. She had a decent amount of money from the last time she did a street performance, so it seemed like a good idea to get some shopping in! Lucille popped in to the local Pokemart to get some odds and ends: some Pokemon food, some dry human food, extra batteries, etc. She also found a few Technical Machines on sale: TM 26:Earthquake and TM 55: Scald. There were a few other shops down the road, mostly antiques and oddities. In one such store, she got her hands on quite a bit of doodads: A blue flute, a roman candle, a crystal shard, a mother's egg, and some lax incense (which she was assured was safe to use by the shop clerk). A tour to the local bakery scored Lucille 8 Sweet Hearts, and tripping over it in the road nabbed the young mute a blue apricorn.
Her last stop was into a thrift store that was mostly clothing. She had found a few cute cardigans and some leggings that were still intact, as well as a Scope Lens that was being sold as a 'toy headset'. But near the back of the racks of clothes was a set of military fatigues. Forest camouflage pants and shirt, both of which with many pockets, along with a set of tan boots. The patches had been removed; whoever wore these beforehand must have kept them. Oddly enough, closer examination showed that they were in Lucille's size! This has to be a sign! There was somebody my size, my age that went on to do something great! I can just smell the adventure! And the moth balls. I'll have to wash all of this stuff after I buy it. Lucille proudly took up all of the clothes, and presented them to the clerk to be rang up. As the clerk ran the numbers, she paused when she got to the fatigues. "Ah, I was wondering when someone was gonna buy these," she noted. Lucille didn't speak, but her grin made it clear she was proud of her decision. "Yeah, I didn't think anyone would want 'em, what with the stain on the back."
The clerk turned over the shirt to fold it, revealing two holes in the back, both stained with a dark, brownish-red substance. "Never could get the stain out, but hey, pockets still work, right?" Lucille felt a bead of sweat run down her brow. It's still a good sign...right?

Ignoring the ill omen that had been made clear to her, Lucille left the thrift store with her bags and a smile. She took the time to get everything arranged in a way that could make it into her backpack, and organized all of her extra items accordingly. She'd always been a well-organized person, so getting everything to fit was not a problem. She took the time to look up a train schedule, and figure the best way to get to the Ranger School. She was well prepared to start off on the next stage of her adventure. However, she still had her doubts; was she ready to do something like this? And based on what, a whim? A stranger's passing comment? Maybe she only wanted to do it to justify running away, or to prove that she wasn't weak anymore. She'd only been on her own for a few weeks...maybe she was being too rash.
But, as she sat there at the train station, she thought about everything she had done so far: She'd made so many new Pokemon friends, for starters. She rescued a haunted helmet from a dark, dank cave. Lucille had taken on her first gym and won. She stood up for some poor kid on the mean streets of Goldenrod City, and even if it didn't work out so well, she got to meet some interesting people because of it. And stopping Bulette -ah. that's a great name!- from getting anyone hurt...they brought a smile to her face. Now, playing music, and making videos, and combing Samson's fur, that made her smile, too. But nothing quite fired her up more than remembering being hundreds of feet above the ground, holding on to dear life. Lucille sighed. Looks like my mind's made up...but, there's still something I have to do before I get on that train. The one moment that still had a sour feeling was when she stormed out of Azalea Town, letting her own embarrassment get the better of her. I'm going back there and getting that badge before I do anything else!
Lucille hopped up from the bench, and took off, dead-set on making it to Azalea Town.

Dune's eyes lit up (not like Chickpea could see, since they were closed). [ "Yeah, yeah, you get it! Ahh the grains are such a good texture, they just all roll around your mouth- mmm~" ] His whole body waggled. [ "I don't have a specific favorite. Most of the stuff where I came from tasted the same- good!" ] Human food was really weird, since it tended to be so squishy. He actually liked that burnt cookie he'd had at the festival- the crunch was perfect.
Jun, who had absolutely no faith in Christian's assurance about Cress, eyed the totodile. Don't forget who's paying for this, kiddo. He turned to follow the hostess to their table, taking a seat, and glanced at the menu. "They usually include some stuff with whatever you order. But we're going to need more than one order for everyone." He 'hmm'd', looking at the options and then at the grill in the center of their table. It was small, for the amount of grilling they'd need to do. "At least beef and the veggie mix. We can order some to start, and get more if we need it." It probably said something about Jun that he ate out and still ended up cooking his own food.
Jun watched Dune get settled next to Chickpea. Ledian fluttered to the cushion on the dunsparce's other side. He released Cricket carefully into the open space behind him, immediately wrapping her head in a soft nelson. "Cricket, we're inside, so don't be too loud, and don't knock anything over. If you're patient you get more to eat." He released her with a pat, wondering if he even needed to actually cook her meat for her.
It was easy enough to let Holly out. The little one hopped into her sister's feathers and took to sifting through them with her delicate leaves. She wasn't too interested in what was going on at the table, though she did pause to watch when Jun started laying a sheathe of thick plastic on a cushion to his left. Holly climbed higher, all the way atop Cricket's back to get a view.
The little peafoul appeared in the center of the cushion, her little feet crinkling the plastic. "Per pi?" She cocked her head looking up at Jun, who very, very carefully scratched her on the head with a single finger. "Hey. Sit tight for some good food." Jun hadn't thought of a name yet, but he felt like the poor thing had been stuck in her ball for too long. He'd planned on giving her a thorough bath first, but this was...probably fine.
With a puff of his chest and his head held high, Chickpea nodded slowly. Of course he got it! It was just that obvious! Or, maybe he and Dune were just that in tune? Either way! "I totally understand. All the food I ate back home was good too." Even if it had essentially been the same thing. Chickpea took a break from their conversation to look around the restaurant, his eyes wide with curiosity and just a smidgen of confusion. He'd never been inside a place like this before, but from the smell of everything he knew they were in for some really yummy food. "Maybe we can get some crunchy bits of food -- that are good too, of course!" the Chikorita, optimistically, suggested. Honestly, he had no idea what they could possibly have to offer, but he was excited either way.
After making her promise to Christian, Cress caught the look Jun gave her. One of complete distrust, and it hurt. She let him know that too, by patting her chest and giving her best pout; she'd be good. She'd crossed her heart and everything! At their table she plopped herself onto the end pillow, and fixed her gaze onto the grill in front of them. Christian kept his eyes on the menu, though he nodded at Jun's words. "We should order a pork belly too," he suggested, just barely able to get the words out without salivating. "And, you know, rice. Rice pairs well with every type of meat." Now that was just common sense.
Christian placed his menu down, his 'contribution' made, and fell into silence as he watched Jun release the remainder of his team. He'd seen them before but it was amusing to watch them interact, especially Cricket and the tan flower... grass... bug creature; they were downright adorable together! With all of his two pokemon already out, he didn't need to worry about getting anyone settled in. Though, Christian did pay a cursory glance over to Chickpea and Cress, just to make sure they were behaving; which, they were! Chickpea was still gabbing away with his bud, and Cress was... just staring at the grill. Should he be concerned about that?
Ehhh, it was probably fine. Cress was a weird pokemon--weird, but cool--so it made sense that she'd do some weird stuff, every now and then.
Upon returning his gaze to Jun, Christian came to the realization that he'd released yet another pokemon. One he wasn't familiar with. It was cute though, like the leaf-insect, and reminded him a lot of a peafowl. "Who do you have there?" he gestured with his left hand to the pokemon, and used the right to cup his chin as he leaned forward across the table. It was... his best bet at conversation, for now, he couldn't just talk about food forever (though it was entirely possible) and at the moment he was out of ideas on what to talk about.

Dune too the pause to settle his head on a cushion, his whole body relaxing into the softness. It wasn't better than packed sand or churned up dirt for comfort, but it was pleasantly different from what he was used to. [ "Oooh yes, crunchy sounds g-good. Hikers used to throw the b-best parts of their snacks on the- on the g-ground." ] Dune felt his cheeks heating a little, though he wasn't sure why he felt embarrassed about what he'd just said. [ "A-anyways, it's nice not h-having to hunt for tasty things." ]
Jun nodded slowly in agreement with Christian, looking back at the table. "Good to hear you're not a savage like I thought," he responded. If Christian had suggested noodles in lieu of rice Jun would've had to slap a b***h. (Noodles in addition to rice was, however, acceptable).
His attention turned back to the chick at his side. "This is.. well, she doesn't have a name yet. I found her in the woods... I think she was abandoned." Jun switched his finger to scratching her lightly on the chin, eliciting a happy warble. "I actually doubled back to the city, to get supplies for her." Hopefully what he got could last to Goldenrod, where if he had good luck he'd find someone willing to take the chick in and able to take care of her properly.
The waitress came just then, to take orders for drinks. Jun went ahead and told her what they wanted for round one, and got a water for himself. "Did you want anything to drink?" Considering he was going to be paying a hilariously huge bill to buy human food for all of their pokemon because Jun was a proper sugar daddy friend, there was no issue with Christian ordering something if he wanted to.
Once he'd finished his sight-seeing, and given Cress a vine-wave (even though she didn't seem to notice... at all), he turned back to Dune. "That was kind of them!" he gushed. He didn't know what a 'hiker' was, he could guess it was a type of human -- a human who gave Dunsparce the best part of their snacks to boot! "Oooh, you hunted?" Chickpea's eyes grew wide at the word, a concept he'd only been able to dream about, and bounced up and down on his pillow. "What was it like? What was the best thing you ever hunted?" he inquired, though he did his best not to bombard Dune with his questions.
Christian snorted, "Glad I'm slowly improving my image in your eye." Out of the corner of his eye he saw something move towards the grill. Instinctively he swatted out at it, "Owww!" He blinked, then turned to look at Cress, who was now cradling her claw. It took a second to connect the dots, but afterwards he snorted again and set Cress with a slightly confused look. "Don't... touch the grill." He set the rule cautiously, as if he wasn't sure that needed to even be said.
Because it didn't, right? You weren't supposed to touch things that were hot.
He'd really have to keep an eye on Cress. But she'd been mollified for now, so he could afford to look at Jun and his not-Cricket bird. "Huh." He watched the interaction between the two, and Christian couldn't help but chuckle. "I didn't realize you were a pokemon rescuer." Though... it wasn't hard to imagine, Jun was a caring individual, his pokemon were close to him, and... he'd... huh. "Well, a pokemon and human rescuer." Wow. He'd really lucked out in running into Jun.
Before he could get the chance to truly reflect on the idea that a complete stranger had taken him in and offered to feed and provide some general care for him, and his pokemon, the waitress returned and Christian was pulled away from his thoughts. "I'll take a water too," he ordered. Once the waitress left, and he'd done a preliminary check-in on Cress, Christian leaned back on his hands and exhaled. "So!" He still wasn't going to think about it. "Tell me more about those gyms you mentioned earlier. They sound... like a lot of physical activity, and I'm weirdly looking forward to it."

[ "Oh, y-yeah...kind." ] Just like Chickpea, to think of things like that. He wasn't sure if it made him feel better that Chickpea didn't judge him for it, but it definitely didn't make him feel worse. [ "Um, n-not really. I j-just would find things on the g-ground," ] he hedged, hesitant. [ "It's really n-nothing." ] He paused, shifting his head a little towards Chickpea. His wings twitched. [ "But... there was this o-one time. Someone dropped a j-jawbreaker. Oohhh, it was the sw-sweetest rock ever." ]
Jun, meanwhile, tilted his lips up in amusement at Cress and Christian. "If you do touch it, we aren't wasting a burn heal on you," he added. Though he wasn't entirely telling the truth- he'd learned enough in his life through trial and error, especially when it came to fires and cooking, that he had too much sympathy for it. If Cress actually burned herself he'd either cave and give her a heal or take her back to the pokemon center. Well, actually... if she still touched it after a warning, maybe he wouldn't.
Christian's next words actually floored Jun. Him, a 'pokemon rescuer'? He wasn't sure whether he wanted to laugh or wince. "That's not something I ever expected to hear," he stated. Peafoul nuzzled his finger, but he didn't really see her."It's not really like that," he insisted. Quieter, more to himself, he added, "I'm not really like that." After all, he just did those things because anyone would, right? He just happened upon Dune, and the peafoul, and Cricket and Holly, and even Christian. It wasn't like anything he did was all that difficult or likely to benefit him. "I am basically paying you to be my friend," he drawled, voice dry.
"And how do you know I'm not planning on selling this little girl?" he added, voice picking up a certain hard carelessness he'd picked up even as he gently stroked her feathers. "People pay good money for her kind." He withdrew his hand, rubbing it clean on a napkin. "Speaking of, I do need to google how much cute blonds sell for." Hopefully Christian got that him saying that with a completely serious face was a joke.
Now, time for a normal conversation. "It's not that kind of gym. They're for pokemon, and you don't go to train. They're like challenges, and if you beat the leader you get a badge to prove you could do it. There's a league, and seriously how do you not know any of this?" He knew Christian had amnesia, but wasn't that a bit much? Jun had seriously been underestimating how little Christian knew right now. He... he actually might have 'rescued' Christian.
Jun leaned back, palms on the floor behind him. "Christian," he said, voice serious. He paused, but there was no point beating around the bush. "If you just need money, or something, I can just give you some. If you don't want to travel together." It was all well and good to joke about it, but if it wasn't a joke to Christian, Jun didn't want to be taking advantage of him. Well, scratch that, he was perfectly fine taking advantage of Christian, as long as the other guy was into it.
