As much as Mimsy enjoyed watching Lucky squirm in his moment of panic, the whole point of putting him there was to make him live his own careless decision. With a false look of regret and a slow nod to confirm that yes, she would, she reached to trigger the release. Her fingertips had barely brushed it when she caught the sight of Robert out of the corner of her eye. She paused, withdrew her hand, and might have stopped the vengeful act entirely if she was not so determined to prove her aforementioned point. Then he caught her off-guard a second time, speaking two words in Russian that seemed to indicate his approval for what she had just orchestrated. A look of pleased, wide-eyed surprise trailed from the machine to the man beside her, flickering with intrigue as her gaze settled on him. How unexpected. Delightfully so. With a shaky breath, she reached to take his hand, clutching it tightly as her attention returned to launch mechanism. "I suggest that you take this time to think about what you have done," she said, hitting the switch with a vindicated purpose.

She'd kept a close eye on Jake as he hit the beast. She'd be super sad if her tossing him up there got him dead. So there was nothing but relief when he was on the ground again. "Good wo--" She scowled at him, and turned a faint shade of pink. "I tossed you so I could kiss you," she hadn't quite meant to blurt that out, but it happened.

He gave her a deadpan stare. "That's a terrible reason."

In hindsight, yes, yes it was. "Sorry." She couldn't look him in the eye; she felt really bad about that, Jake. She was genuinely sorry. "Are apologies a good reason? For kissing, not tossing?"

"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" He was pretty sure they were supposed to be fighting the insanity titan, not making out. Too bad he missed Mark getting eaten. He would have liked seeing that.

Words, Jake, words. Learn to use them. Still, his response was answered with a quick hug, a quick kiss on the lips, and another whispered, "Sorry." Then Sherry stepped back and looked at the giant beastie attacking the island. "I hope we can handle that thing."

Straightening herself out, the sun hunter gave the boy a wry grin. "Well, life is usually out of order anyways, so I guess this all fits into play." Reaching out to shake his hand, she nodded to herself. "Nice to meet you, Jack. I'm Katherine Taylor. Not so new to the Sun Division, but I guess that was pretty obvious."
The distant sound of a certain Death assistant, whaling through the air, caught her notice as she turned to see what had happened. Did Mark just..? I guess they would just have to wait for him to come out the other end. The guy had about nine lives or something.

Time felt unusually slow. Even so, it wasn't nearly enough time to even imagine getting his last minute affairs in order, or experiencing his life in a quick movie format flashing before his eyes. It was only just enough time for him to sigh heavily, shut his eyes tight, and sum everything up in a single word: " Kurwa..." He heard the switch flip. There were a series of whirs and thunks and the screech of something that sounded like the runic equivalent of dial-up. A column of smoke rose out of the main barrel, and a few colorful maintenance lights began flashing on the panel in front of Mimsy. Perhaps it had been Mark's last will and testimony that his creations could not function without his presence. Or maybe Lucky had just gotten, well, lucky. The short answer was, it was broken. He didn't wait around to be rescued from his almost-fate. In a flash of bright blue light he had drawn his weapon from nothingness - and in one quick backwards slash her serrated teeth snapped the line that held him in place. He landed in an uncoordinated heap, clutching a lucky rabbit's foot totem to his chest. It took all of his self control to downplay how thankful he was to be clutching at dirt and grass (and not the digestive tract of a Class A Hostile) for the second time in a half hour. Lucky stood up, brushing off the traces of dirt and a little more of the glowing slime as if to regain his composure. He still looked like a mess, but only half as much as he felt like one. "Maybe later," he quipped, though it sounded greatly subdued.

Lucky was freaking out - and Robert knew this was because they were taking their sweet time about actually launching him. Making him suffer. He felt bad for that, and wanted to push the button all the faster. After all, once you were up there, all that mattered was survival. And he'd be fiiine. What could go wrong? Apparently. A lot. He hadn't seen Mark get snapped up. It would have been a sight too familiar to his own expedition not too long ago, so it was a rare blessing that he'd missed it. The only reason he hadn't caught on was because there was a hand, a little hand, sliding into his. This wasn't an unfamiliar feeling for him, people held and touched him all the time. But the owner of the hand didn't. So he looked down, at their hands, and then up at her. She looked.. proud. No, interested. It made him want to snort with laughter, but he held his tongue, determined not to ruin the moment. He just squeezed her hand, and held his breath as she pressed the trigger. Lucky was about to go flying, but Robert was already there. The disappointing sound of failure had their attentions turning to the machine, and Robert let out a long, exaggerated 'Awwwww.' Lucky wouldn't get to fly like a bird. That wasn't half as fun! He sighed, pouting as he tried to consider other options, until another idea hit him. He was just full of them today. "OOH! Ooh! Lucky, come back, I'll throw him like Before!" While he refused to let go of Mimsy's hand, Robert had to hold his arms out to the man on the ground, waiting for Lucky to crawl into them willingly. On his face, the biggest of smiles rested. He might have half forgotten that Lucky didn't want this. He was just being helpful.

What was that? Mimsy made a face at the device as it ruined all of her plans in a series of terrible noises, and sighed when he had still not gone anywhere by the time the noises stopped. The thought that it was in any way her fault didn't cross her mind, because it was much too impossible to even be considered, so she was nothing but displeased at his miraculous influx of luck. Lucky landed on the ground nearby, but she did nothing to disallow him from moving freely. She'd seen how frightened he was, and while it was not the optimal result in the slightest, this constant reaffirmation of the fact that he was afraid of her was still satisfying. "No," she replied, frowning. "You had your chance." Even if Robert did, apparently, want to give him a second one. Though the enthusiasm continued to add to the newfound intrigue, she was both of the opinion that Lucky should now remain grounded and still aware that physics were a thing. She gently touched his arm and shook her head, considered actually telling him 'no', and settled on just shaking her head some more.

Jordan nodded to Kat; he didn't know her well, but he likewise knew of her. "Hi, Kat." They hadn't had much occasion to work together, but neither had they had any conflicts, and he respected her. "Nah, the hazing is usually more psychological," he replied to Solomon. He might have been serious. It was hard to tell. He nodded to Peyton's explanation. "We're more effective as teams; having someone defending for you frees you up to really concentrate on getting your damage in where it will count." He shook Solomon's hand. "Jordan Miller. I'm happy to help." As the new orders were being called out, he looked up. "Guess we're up," he said, and headed for the equipment. He paused briefly to put a light hand on Peyton's uninjured shoulder. "Hey, stay back if you can, all right? Don't risk reinjuring yourself if you don't have to."

The attention and praise were making Noah feel considerably better about his role and his idea, and he nodded excitedly to Lucky. "I will!" he promised when the older man told him to let him know about the results. The new orders, however, restored all his hesitations and doubts in an instant, and he hunched in a little. Was he really going to be expected to launch someone at that thing? Oh, god, could he really do it? He gave Jack a weak smile. Jack was apparently going to go do it. Everybody else around him was. Okay then. He was just going to have to try. If he could find someone that would let him strap them into a contraption and fire it. That might be the hard part.

There wasn't really anything he had to say about the lovey-dovey display. But he had plenty of rolling to do with his eyes. He didn't believe it for a moment. Mimsy's half of it, anyway. As for Robert... The behemoth of a life hunter appeared to have forgiven him entirely in the span of a minute. Even he couldn't help but be surprised at the transition from red-faced anger to... whatever Robert was doing now. Waving his arms and trying to convince Lucky he could throw him? He glanced at Mimsy again, calculating the dangers and risks of entering her proximity again. At Robert, to estimate the pros and cons of throwing away what little dignity he had left on a gamble. He took one tentative step, then another, and another, until with a hint of gritted teeth and a look of complete resignation he had wandered right into Robert's waiting arms - but not before he had made sure to shuck off and cast aside the harness that Mimsy had so helpfully assisted him with. Just in case."Okay. Do your vorst," he intoned at Robert's waiting shoulder - the one that wasn't next to Mimsy. It was about how high he came up to next to the guy. "Sorry," he added vaguely, at what he hoped was a private volume. Almost getting Robert killed was a bit more collateral damage than he bargained for. This penance was more Lucky's speed (and distance, and height) than the other one.

[LOOKING FOR DEFENSIVE][Sun Division]"If that's the case its' a pretty crappy battle wound." He laughed, shaking his head. It wasn't even impressive and after it healed no one would even know he had it. Not that he wanted wounds that people could see. One of those was enough thanks. As they hit the battle field and looked around he had to not laugh again at Milo's idea of 'fun'. He wasn't sure that getting slung at a giant monster in the equivalent of a slingshot was 'fun'. "Yeeaaa ... fun, if you say no" He didn't get much time to argue though as Milo was snagged by someone. The flurry of activity around them seemed to be mostly between people who knew each other, he guessed friends, trying to help each other out. Figuring he'd get over looked as the new, and most likely useless, face he headed over to help a few others who were pushing the used up (and stupid) weaponry out of the way.

Mimsy said no. Mimsy said no? She was shaking her head, and telling Robert not to throw Lucky. His head turned to the side, tilted in confusion. It made no sense. But then Lucky was in his arms, and Robert was squealing, picking him up like a teddy bear and hugging him tight. "YAY, Lucky's gonna FLY. I'll do better this time. I think I know what I did wrong with Before. I need a running start." That wasn't what he'd done wrong. Throwing a man was what he'd done wrong. He hefted Lucky up, and gave Mimsy a reassuring grin. "It'll be all right. I promise!" He had absolutely no idea why Mimsy wouldn't want this, because he knew it would be funny, and he knew everyone would get what they want. But mostly him. Which was watching Lucky fly in the air a little. He leaned down and kissed Mimsy's cheek. "Relax!" He demanded, before his hand finally let go and he started to walk backwards. "Okay, Lucky. Arms and legs tucked in. Don't fall on your head. If you actually make it to the Insanity monster... I don't know, you probably shouldn't actually make it to the Insanity monters. HERE WE GO!" Thundering footsteps pounded through the sand as Robert started to run forward, lifting Lucky over his head and twirling him once much like he did with Jezebel, before flinging the boy off into the wind. For about a dozen feet.
