"Bea, that's a nice name. I think. But it sounds pleasant, anyways." Anua smiled at the pointy-eared girl, "I'm Anua. I think we should--"
The silhouette of the strange creature had slipped into their presence once more, the shine of its eyes and the shape of its tail the only things that Anua could trace. She fell silent, a mixed battle between hope for answers and dread for what it will ask of her raged against one another in the back of her mind.
The voice of the creature rang through her head, and what little comfort she had managed to find in the group of girls was swept swiftly away as a new wave of fear paralyzed her. It's really expecting us to fight?
Wish.. the creature's word seemed to hold a special connotation, a feeling that reverberated through her. But not enough to wipe away her fear. She had no idea what wish the thing was speaking of, no idea what wish she could possibly make. Except to perhaps be somewhere that isn't here.
Then it came. Anua felt the world around her distort, a strange, echoing laugh that came from an impossibly wide grin. Black tendrils snaked forward, reaching, testing the air as it spread with a careless abandon.
She didn't hear the last words their pseudo-guide had spoken; all she could hear was the irregular and twisting sounds of the dark creature rising before them.
All around her, the other girls were taking up their weapons, a myriad of colors blurring together with blades and creatures and magic alike. The black appendages of their apparent enemy struck hard and fast. Some girls deflected or dodged the twining arms, others took the hit square on, leaving their bodies with a horrifying mark.
There were so many girls, but despite their numbers, Anua felt that they didn't stand a chance. The size of their enemy, number of them, and the decidedly deadly whips of the creatures seemed like it could handle them all easily. Anua watched them with morbid fascination, immobile and scared. It wasn't until the blur of darkness sweeping in front of her eyes that adrenaline forced her to jump backwards, snapping her out of her reverie.
It was real, and it was dangerous. And there were all the other girls, risking their lives, being struck down in front of her, raising their heads and weapons high and striking back. These weren't just girls. They all had names and personalities, despite their universal lack of memories. Some she had met, many names she simply picked up from hearing their conversations. They were fighting for themselves and for each other.
She shut her eyes and clasped her gem tightly, willing herself to face reality. Move, Anua, Move! Maroon eyes peered up, pupils constricted, hands shaking.. She surveyed the scene before her, whispering names attached to the figures dancing before her.
She knew that she couldn't just watch it like the audience to a play. She must be in it. Anua gave an audible gulp, reaching for her crystal. I don't know anything about a promise.. I don't know what my role to play is.. But..
Swinging her arm out, Anua felt the motion was familiar and comfortable, following through the flow as if her body already knew what to do. The flicker of her gem and the sudden feeling of empowerment rushed through her, and there in her hand was the shape of a wand, the smooth hilt melded perfectly to the palm of her hand. Anua stared at it in surprise, then turned her attention back to their attacker. You have your weapon now, so go attack! Telling herself this was one thing, doing it was another. Fear was not to be underestimated; it was an emotion she was becoming all too familiar with.
The girls were still fighting. Winning. Hurting. Anua didn't know what she could do, but she would at least try. The tip of her wand formed a glowing red orb of light, small, transparent, but she could sense a purpose. On some instinctual level, she knew what it would do. How to make it cause damage, however, was another issue.
Anua ducked under a speeding lance of darkness, grabbing a rock in the process. She could sense the trickle of power lacing itself into the rock; an enchantment, of sorts, leaving glowing red lines etched across its surface. She tossed it in the air, and for a moment she felt as if time itself slowed. The rock was falling as her arm arched through the air until the glowing tip of her wand touched the rock.
The sudden propulsion threw her back as a sea of red covered her vision. The rock shot forward, tail streaming like a comet, and slammed straight into the body of the creature. The rock's enchantment instantly took place, exploding into a ray of shards, burning and embedding itself into the amorphous figure.
Anua sat momentarily dazed, but spun quickly to her feet as the shadowed forms launched back at her.

One would think a highly successful attack would bring confidence; Anua, however, found herself still quaking, both hands clutching her wand. Everything was happening too fast now, and she wasn't sure that she could repeat her success.
The dark whips gave her no respite, however, and she fell into a clumsy tumble, grabbing another rock in the palm of her hand, embedding it with what power she could. The lines traced the rock in red once more, but turned blue with the elemental enchantment. The pale girl leaped over one of the black tendrils as it sliced across, swinging her wand and letting the rock slip from her fingertips. Despite knowing what to expect this time, the sudden burst startled her once more, and she landed in an awkward heap. The rock shot straight and true, ice hitting the molten wounds from earlier in a combo that hurt, then stiffened her opponent. Or at least that was the intent.
The figure's smile never wavered, its laugh echoing heartlessly on, despite the damage it had taken. Anua was feeling drained, her legs refusing to hold up her weight as they shivered in fear. Her adrenaline rush was leaving her cold, and it was all she could do to not curl up in a ball and squeeze her eyes shut.
She knew the other girls weren't giving up, however, and she pulled herself up into a half-stand, gritting her teeth and staring down the battlefield before her, heart pounding loudly in her ears.

Their attacked looked worse for wear, and Anua hoped that the combined effort of all the amnesiac fem fatales would be enough to end their tumultuous battle soon. One more time!
Anua's pale hand grasped a rock once more, enchanted lines arching over the rough texture, swung her wand and-- "Resolute Blitz!" Her sudden burst of words surprised even herself, for in that moment she had forgotten how weak she felt, how scared and timid she was.
That moment was over in one second, however, as fear gripped her once more. Her arm pulled back a second too soon, causing the launch of her enchanted projectile to twist in the same motion. It shot forward, speeding along the arched path and hitting the creature, but it glanced off the side and was more like a scratch than her previous hits.
Her movement caused her to trip and fall on hands and knees, her own fear and weariness locking her in place. One doesn't simply change overnight, after all.

Her prone position on the floor left Anua vulnerable to the onslaught of the shadowed creature. She could see her attack had hurt it; despite its perpetual smile, it quivered and had slowed. That didn't stop its attacks, however, as the slicing archs of darkness slashed through Anua's clothes and skin. The lacerations on her huddled form stung, her skin laced with the black lines of corrosive darkness.
Perhaps her attacks from earlier caused enough damage that the black tendrils began to withdraw, perhaps someone else had taken care of it. She couldn't tell anymore. Her vision was blurred, and she lay unmoving, hunched over her knees as black wisps seemed to emanate from her wounds.
The gentle sound of a crystalline tinkle seemed terribly out of place. Anua struggled to lift her head, too tired to be scared anymore. A strange, diamond shaped gem lay where the creature she had fought should have been. Pale fingers reached shakily out, grasping it and pulling the crystal towards her.
Words.. someone was speaking to her? Anua's eyesight seemed to not want to focus on anything in particular. The crystal would replenish her Fear core, it seemed. Is that what it was saying?
And something more about a wish. She didn't remember any such wish. How could she possibly make a wish when she didn't know what she wanted? For a moment, Anua simply wanted to help support and protect the others. She had stepped out of her own comfort bounds to do so, and had failed, succumbing to her own fear when it really mattered.
But perhaps, she reasoned with herself, there's a way to change that fear into Fear. She had felt it for that brief moment. Anua hugged the crystal to her chest, but didn't touch it to her own Fear core. She wouldn't give up trying, but there might be others who need it more than she. Others who don't freeze up in battle and can actually help their companions.
She took a step back and was sadly, over confident of her retreat. The creature turned on her in an instant. Rhosyn tried to jump out of the way but the second she felt something strike through her chest she knew she was too late. A blood curdling scream escaped her lips as she felt like her body was suddenly on fire.
Everything hazed and suddenly the dark haired ghoul was breathing heavy on the ground, curled on her side around her battle axe and Fear. There was something on the ground right in front of her though. The thing that had been explaining everything before was talking to her again? She felt so heavy. Like she could just close her eyes and sleep for forever. This would make her better? This crystal? If that was the case, the humans still needed her. She still had a job to do. Rhosyn couldn't sleep when there were people depending on her. One hand slunk forward, taking the crystal in question and pulling it to sit next to her Fear Core. Within moments the damaged thing had absorbed the crystal and Rhosyn felt as if she had never been attacked. But she had been, and she had to be ready for it in the future. Rhosyn stood and looked around, moving to join the others even though she didn't know any of them. She bumped into someone younger, who looked a little worse for wear. "Are you alright?"

At first, she was sure she was victorious. Although she did admit, it was quite a bit stronger than she had first expected. Claire was positive that it hadn't taken her seriously, at least not in the beginning, and that had been its downfall. Her first two attacks had landed with pinpoint accuracy, long black gashes appearing at the base of two of the tentacle-like appendages, leaving them limp and harmless.
But it seemed to have realized the evident danger.
She had lunged for her last attack, a piercing blow to the torso that would, hopefully, render it immobile, when its unholy white eyes snapped in her direction. She was already midair by the time she realized the peril she was in, unable to do anything but watch in horror as it struck at her, one tentacle whipping out like a lance to impale her straight through.
Her tiny scream of terror and pain was jarred as her entire body began to dissolve, breaking away like black paint chips from the center outward. Little hands grasped the base of the tentacle where it protruded from her stomach, her big blue eyes seeming even bigger as she stared at it, tears beginning to form in her eyes. As she began to dissolve further, the monster gave its tentacle a sharp flick, jerking back to its side and allowing Claire to fall into a heap on the ground.
Sliding her eyes open, the twelve year old shook a little as she reached up to touch her stomach, her fingers probing for the hole a little fearfully. But she found nothing. There was no damage at all, nothing that would suggest she had been wounded.
Well... except one thing.
The little pink gem lay on its side in the curl of her body, its pink color now tainted with ugly black cracks. The fear she had been feeling transformed into horror as she stared at it; this was far worse than the death she was sure she had experienced, her entire body growing cold as she stared at it. Reaching for it with one hand, she pushed herself up again, sitting rather ungracefully as she examined it, running her fingers along the surface, tears beginning to well in her eyes.
The impact jarred up her arms and Connie cried out. She'd never struck anything in her life, but she knew she had to do so again. This time she said nothing.

Ahahahaha. Hah. Good one, Mairee. Yeah. "It hasn't failed us yet," she muttered as a retort.
Zelda blinked with some surprise that Melony had found herself a crystal suddenly, but she shrugged it off; best not to question little things when they were a bunch of amnesiac girls in frilly outfits and sharp weapons fighting for a shadow cat for the fate of the world. "Get yourself cleaned up then, we need everyone at their best," she told the girl, back to a brisk tone like that one vey brief tender moment never occurred. To Macy, she patted her shoulder and followed her gaze to where Jaimie was. "Was wondering where you went! Well if you need one, we have a few. This one, she's got a healer's heart." She practically sounded proud if you listened hard enough. Caring for others was part of the deal, sure, but Zelda had issues being...soft.
Overhearing someone not too far away, Zelda turned and called out, "It's some sort of crystal thing, it heals! Try it out in someone who needs it."
Shira woke with a start, looking around her she spots a creature speaking to her.
"Y-you're talking to me?.... I'm feeling .... confused. Where am I?"
She listens to the creature's explanation of her current situation. Closing her eyes she lets out a sigh.
"I see.... so I'm fighting this Fear."
She looks to her side to see a decorated red hilt of a claymore.
" but this weapon... it's a little big. I'll give it a try anyways"
She stands up and lifts the blade up expecting it to fall out of her hands. but it didn't, in fact, it felt comfortable.
" Wow! I didn't think I could lift it. Maybe I AM a natural"
She let out a giggle then nods at the creature, feeling a sense of responsibility
"I understand, I will do my best."

[ using crystal to rez self! ]
Your wish?
Magenta slammed into the ground, her axe disappearing instantaneously. Her FEAR core slid from her hand, clattering into the abyss with the rest of her belongings. Namely, the fear crystal.
She had no time to cry, to lament, to regret, to fairwell, to fight, to battle, to defend.
"I wish-" for a second chance.
Her FEAR core touched the small crystal, and all at once there was an eruption of light. Instead of darkness, her FEAR core fissured and exploded with beams of light, the FEAR crystal repairing the damage. The parts of her body that had been dissipating formed once more, fluidity becoming solid in the twilight of battle.
Power.
Now she remembered.
Magenta was small. Weak. Young. What else would she wish for but power? Maybe a bigger house. But probably power.
When she stood up, she found herself returned to the area with ghouls. "H-Hello?" she called out. "Anyone?" She clenched a fist to her right. Her axe began forming, the same old square movements. Good. She was still alive. She could do this.

Well, that hadn't been very effective at all. Maybe there was something to the whole yelling thing. Taking a deep breath, Connie gathered herself. She had to do some serious damage this time. She shuffled backwards, lifting her sword off of the floor and jabbing it back down against the ground so that it shot sparks with every step.
"Okay. BLOOD IN THE WATER SHARKBAIT OO-HA-HA!!!"
The short girl ran forward as she shouted, feeling her muscles strain as she brought her weapon around again. She leaped into the air, swiping at the creature with as much force as she could muster. It was a wonderful end to a mediocre attack. Something to be proud of. Something to tell... somebody.

She wasn't sure she'd always fought like this, with a weapon, but she knew there had been a struggle in her life, a fight that ran like a hairline fracture through her mind. Everything was blank and she still wanted to ask the creature why her, why did she have to do this.
But she did it anyway.
Summoning her weapon she bowed under the weight of it, the massive scythe glittering. She swung and the force almost swept her off her feet, swinging her weight into it to counter.
"I... I'm fine... just a bit worse for wear", Aria grunted in response to Zelda's and Macy's question, doing her best not to show how much the injuries she sustained stung. She was probably failing miserably at it, but she hated how poorly she did once the opponent had revealed themselves and felt bad about not being able to handle herself. She wanted to at least prove that she could cope.
She felt her resolve falter for a moment as Melony passed the small crystal back to Macy, pondering whether she should ask for it instead. She immediately shook the thought away, knowing that others could probably use it more than her. She was stronger than this, she couldn't break down and beg for handouts... despite how infernally tired she was.
Trying to distract herself, she called out to the other girls, "You all still alive?"
Wish? What wish? What was the damn cat-rabbit-goblin-thing talking about? She didn't have time to worry about it, though, before they were all fighting some monster that had appeared along with it. Having watched the other girls jump forward to attack the creature, Tara was determined to do at least as well. Drawing the throwing stars she had noticed at her waist earlier, she threw them at the creature, and was satisfied to see both score solid hits.
