"No, he was black. My mother was white." he said with a smile. "And yes, we must. You can't fight instinct all the time. Or we would go craze. Most females don't really have to worry. They fight less. And usually take their pack position from there mate.
And as for the fight? Yea, I lost. Got the crap beat out of me. I didn't fight him to take over as ruler til a few years ago.

"And that is your most scariest memory it sounds like the funniest story and I hoped that you learned your lesson and does that mean I have to fight too." Lark stated with a smile on her face

Devon rolled his eyes and growled. "No it does not. No fighting for you." If he was honest with her, he would have told her that wasn't the scariest moment of his life. The scariest moment was seeing her as sick as she was and him helpless to do anything. But he wouldn't remind her of that. She didn't need anything to worry about.

Devon smiled. "I wouldn't let them live if they raised a hand against you in the first place." he said with a wolfish grin. "And don't worry about the other problem. It will be solved easily."

"You shouldn't be so ready to kill over me Devon it makes me feel bad I cause enough trouble as is." Lark said kissing his check. "and when you grin like that it makes you seem like the big bad wolf I'm just saying." she giggled at him when her gave her a glare

Devon rolled his eyes. "Maybe not kill." he agreed. "more like maim." he mumbled to himself. He pulled her closer for a moment as he kissed her, grumbling at the "Big Bad Wolf" comment. Would she ever take him seriously? They again, it was rather refreshing. It was still annoying too.
He laugh wryly and shook his head. "Yeah, well. I need to head to work. Like I said, take it easy today and if you must go outside, bundle up. I won't have you having a relapse." he said sternly.

"Yes alpha."Lark said in a bright tone smiling at the slight jab "Look at this way I think its better if I don't take you seriously because if I did I would be scared of you all the time." Lark said sensing his annoyance and the reason why because It came through so clearly through the connection and she knew that he was feeling her good cheer and the disappointment at his leaving her alone

Devon nodded him understanding. "You're are right. Though maybe one of these days you won't be." he remarked. "Don't worry. The day will fly by. Keep your spirits up. And if you need company, I'm sure you could always asked Sheryl or Bo or whomever you like to come over." he said rising. He kissed her one last time. "I love you." he reminded her, just in case.

Lark kissed him back she really didn't want him to leave but she knew he had to
"I Love you too Devon and be safe." She said letting him go out the door some what sadly after he left she cleaned herself up and go dressed for the first time in three weeks she decided after a while that after exploring the huge mansion that she should go outside and explore the yard like she did after she finished with the house. She bundled up like Devon asked not wanting to hear his growling and grumbling if she did relapse again she was only outside for five minutes and was heading toward the garden when she almost ran into a very large and very mean looking pitch black wolf that was snarling loudly at her like he wanted to attack her the wolf was bigger than Devon was and Devon was big but this wolf was bigger and a lot meaner exploring the house had taken a few hours and she didn't know what time Devon was due to be home but she prayed it was soon as the wolf made her stand stock still like a deer in headlights

Devon returned home with a surprise guest. His mother was smiling amiably beside him as he walked her into the house. Teresa had been waiting out by his car as Devon finally got off work. She explained that she and his father had come down from their vacation in Alaska to visit for awhile.
This didn't make for a comfortable ride. His mother remain quiet, knowing her son was in no mood to talk. The fact that his father was not with his mother, meant he was elsewhere. And Kaleb did not just come down from a vacation for a visit without some other reason as well. The man was efficient that way.
Upon returning to his house he could smell that familiar scent of the old king. He frowned, and started to go around the house. "You could have call to warn me." he accused.
"You know your father, He's not one to alert everyone to his actions." his mother replied patiently.
Behind the house he found Lark standing frozen looked straight at his father's wolf form. He was growling. An unusual thing for him and not at all good. He quickly strode past the wolf and plus Lark to his side.
"If you were going to come you should have told me. I would appreciate it you wouldn't threaten, My Mate." he said flatly showing his teeth. He had the utmost respect for his father but this made him pissed. He arm went protectively around Lark.

Teresa gasped in shock and smiled big at the scene that was now before her if Devon's mother the old queen was anything it was a romanticist which drove Kaleb insane sometimes like it would now because she had instantly smelled the girl's human scent which is what had set her mate off but she didn't have Kaleb's instant dislike of humans and for her this was something that she had wanted for her son for a while and that was a mate that balanced him. "Oh Devon shes beautiful you should have told me sooner I would have bought something for her." This got her an evil growl from Kaleb as he walked behind a tree to change into a man and came back looking just as angry as he left

Lark was terrified of the black wolf she couldn't understand why it was so angry with her least of all what he wanted so she was stuck outside in the cold her fear and panic working herself up to the point where she had begun to feel weak again and she knew she was about to have a relapse she had been outside to long her knees were about ready to give out when Devon arrived and defended her from the black wolf and it scared her even more to realize that the wolf almost came up past Devon's chest while it towered over her smaller form and even worse she saw a woman off to the side that was making a fuss about her from a distance accusing Devon about not telling them about her and the confusing part was why would it matter to them
about who she was point blank she was scared and confuse and about to past out because the fever is beginning to come back with a vengeance

Devon looked at his mother and nodded. "Things have been... trying lately." he said, trying not to flinch. "I didn't seem to have time to call." He said as way of apology to his mother. Under normal circumstances he would have, but everything had happened so fast.
"It's cold out and Lark had recently been ill. Give me a few minutes and then we'll talk." This he said while staring into his father eyes. Without really looking at Lark, he picked her up and carried her inside. It wasn't until after he entered that he noticed how flushed her face was. He placed a hand on her forehead. It was too warm. "How long have you been standing out there?" he asked incrediously, trying to warm her up.

For the moment Kaleb let Devon talk this young girl. She was a easily frightened little thing. She was weak too. If she had been smart she should have at least run. He shifted, a scowl on her normally smooth features. Despite his age his hair was still mostly black with barely a few barely a few grays. There were only a few wrinkles on his face.
This wife stepped up. It was easy to see who Devon got his hair color from. His temperament and seriousness were a trait from his father.
"I'm not going to leave this alone, Teresa. That girl is not good enough for my son. And a human at that!" he seethed.

That comment got a very nasty sound from Theresa as she stepped in front of her husband with her hands on her hips an aggressive if not a very stubborn posture of the old queen which meant she would not back down from this one either."Kaleb I absolutely forbid for trying to break them up. I mean for goodness sake not good enough if shes not good enough I like you to find someone who is its not like you helped him any ever female wolves are limited now a days and you know and you never ever support any of his decisions and so what if shes a human I were not that far of from humans and is that your only excuse of dislike or is it something else?" She asked waiting for his answer in her opinion her son was very fortunate her had found a mate and an little angel to boot her husband would not ruin this for their son.

Lark coughed and started shaking as she tried to answer his question past her terror of that black wolf and what was with that woman from the glance she got her hair had been white like Devon's but she had no clue as to who the pair was or what they wanted. It was getting hard to stand on her own now. "I don't know I just went out to get some air and getting a feel for the place and all of a sudden the black wolf was there growling at me like I had done something to make him angry but I can imagine what I could have done and when I saw him I got so scared I couldn't move and I thought that if I turned and ran it would make it worse and he had me pined against the house but who he is and what did I do to make him mad?" She asked shaking and breathless barely able to stand anymore

Kaleb shook his head. "It's good for the boy to have some opposition." he grumbled. "And I have my reason for not liking her. I won't try to break them up. Devon's too stubborn to let me." A slight look of pride come across his face, but disappeared in an instant. "But it doesn't mean I'm not going to just leave this alone. Surely you can see this is just... puppy love. Not the Connection." He looked away, seeming to be lost in thought. Or planning.

Devon could still feel her fear. And well as she the return of her fever. Quickly he picked her up and took her back upstairs to her room.
"Remember last night I told you my father was terrifying in wolf form? Well, you just found how scary he is first hand." he stated. "The woman is my mother."
Once in the room he started removing her coat and scarf, shoes and whatever else she hand on until she was just in her normal clothes. "I'll deal with my father. My mom is on your side. She'd ecstatic to meet you properly. But right now, you are not leaving this bed." He enforced this by tucking her in. Placing a hand on her forehead he could feel the heat coming off of it. He prayed silently that this was only a brief relapse.
