Zlata jumped when the bell rang, having been staring at Emil for well most of the lesson. Pushing her stuff lazily into her bag she rose from her seat, stretched a little, (which probably looked a little odd because of how short she is) and headed to her next lesson, lazily running her fingers through her long hair.

Andrew all but skidded into class. He had let go of Alabama to make a run for it down the hall so they could slip in before the teacher got into the lecture. He had already been making a habit of being late to his first period and didn't want all of his teachers to think he was a bad kid. Of course, what was more worrisome to him was what North Carolina might do to the boy if his behavior got too far out of line.

Tennessee slipped into the class and sighed softly when it looked like they weren't too late. Many of the students (including his big sister) weren't there yet so that was extremely lucky! The state started heading to his seat when a particular petite, sun kissed Pacific girl caught his gaze. Andrew hadn't talked to Leilani since she freaked out over Iris and called him a liar. He had made sure to avoid her last night in the dorm even though he let her keep using Christian's room while he was gone and he was careful to leave before her that morning. The boy set his expression back to firm and unreadable as he settled down at his desk as if Hawaii didn't even exist. She probably didn't want to talk to a "liar" anyways.

Tennessee was silent as he watched Hawaii approach with the same firm expression as before. Though normally friendly and agreeable with others, his attitude was that of a wary former mountaineer. Andrew said nothing nor did he tense, but there was an unmistakable air of disapproval if not outright distrust about the way he regarded his little sister with that hard gaze. The Volunteer State only stared quietly at the island girl while she explained herself and carefully examined every twitch of her body language. Only when she turned to walk away did he finally raise his voice.

"What was that about the horse?" he asked in an even tone that still held great tension yet there was a slight hint of confusion, too.

Andrew's expression finally softened into something closer to confusion as he raised a brow at the girl. "You were scared of Iris?" he asked slowly while his mind struggled to comprehend how anyone could be scared of his mare. She was the most gentle, sweet thing his side of the Mississippi as far as he was concerned. To think of anyone being remotely nervous around her was the wildest thing he could imagine. Then again, he had never introduced Leilani to Iris before so she had no way of knowing that. Still, were horses scary? For as long as he had been alive horses had been trusted, valuable companions and a part of daily life until cars became popular. "Not the lobsterback...?"

Tennessee didn't say too much about her experience as a child although he was a bit surprised to hear she once had a princess. Then again, hadn't someone once told him Hawaii was a kingdom before she became a state? It was moments like this where Andrew realized he knew so little about his adopted sister. He was almost a little ashamed and shifted uncomfortably as she apologized to him.

"... It's fine," he said and nudged the chair next to him closer to her with his foot. "Hurry up an' sit down before the teacher scolds you or somethin'..." He turned his gaze towards his lab book with a faint blush on his cheeks and moved himself so there would be space for Leilani despite how much room he had pretended to need before.

Still, for someone to be scared of horses wouldn't do. Especially since Iris was such a big part of his life. Maybe they would need to find a way to properly introduce the island girl to his mare. Surely Iris would understand if he explained things to her...

Tennessee nodded to Alabama when he spoke up. "If you think it's Hawaii, then yeah," he said. "I know she don't hang around us much at home, but we've become... um... pretty close while here." He blushed a little more and glanced at their adopted sister to make sure he wasn't overstepping his bounds by saying so. He didn't want to offend her or make the Hawaiian uncomfortable. "We're 'ohana' now, I think," he said although Andrew was struggling a bit with the word she had taught him.
