Valthier was just then coming up the path, carrying a tired but very warm Mouse in his arms. he seemed quite cheerful, though those who knew him well enough could tell that he was still worried, and probably had been very stressed up until now.
he was greeted by the elderly attendant, and welcomed inside. gratefully, he bowed and entered. the servant pointed the way to the springs and he headed that way.

Luckily, Scarlet heard the familiar tread of her old friend just after she finished dressing in a thin silk kimono. She rushed out of the small room (safely clothed) into the main foyer and threw her arms around Val and Mouse.
"I was getting worried, you oaf," she chided, even as she squeezed Mouse between them like the jelly in a mortal/vampire sandwich. Then she let them go. One hand stroked Mouse's chilled cheek. "You should get her into the hot springs--that will warm her up quicker than anything. It will only take 10 minutes, and then you can put her down for the rest of the night. I'll have Kenshi and Kyo-kyo make up a warm bed for her."

Ciro's new outfit consisted of a black kosode, haori, and hakama. "So formal," he thought. Upon Val and Mouse's arrival Ciro was quite relieved. "It's about time!" he laughed. Then mouse caught a glimpse of the rather large spider near the door and squeaked in fear, which made him laugh harder. Calming down, he turned to ask, "Where are the Russian and the German?"

Alfons and Dmitri quickly made their way through the cars, their adversaries not far behind. Before entering the first car, Dmitri spun around and fired a few warning shots off towards the pursuers. The civilians immediately ducked in fear, and the gang members dove for what little cover there was. Dmitri finished the magazine and went to the next car where Alfons waited. "Ready?" he asked as Dmitri reloaded, nodding. The train had begun to slow on its approach to the station where the cops waited. The two jumped just as one of the goons got through the door and fired, missing.
Vincent jumped from the third car, leaving his men to deal with the cops.

Manguusu was finally allowed on the train, but it still had to wait for the other one's business to be over.

Val nodded, and began walking Mouse to the hotspring.
"they wanted to make a detour to a Temple. they'll arrive later." he responded as he carried Mouse off. he returned to the two, and sat down, exhausted.

"Why on earth are they going to a temple?" Ciro pondered.

Alfons and Dmitri tucked and rolled as they hit the ground, eventually stopping in a bush. "I have idea," Dmitri groaned, "Ve don't do zat again."
"We're near our destination. The reason I chose this spot is because the tracks run past Ontake-yama. We just have to go east"
Alfons stood and looked around, using the stars and moon to discern the proper direction. Walking toward the tracks, he pointed. "Come on, Dmitri! This way."
Dmitri pulled himself up, looking toward the stopped train in the distance. His gaze drifted to Alfons, who had already started off toward the forest.
"Boss seems like different person," he thought with a concerned look on his face. He ran after Alfons, catching up quite quickly.

Vincent made his way out of the mud puddle he'd rolled into. Visibly pissed, he looked to the North and watched as his targets walked into the woods. He started after them, trying to keep a safe distance.

Manguusu's train finally started rolling. He overheard one of the few other passengers say that five armed men were arrested at a station between Gero and Takayama.

"A detour?" Scarlet fumed as she followed Val towards the hot spring, her kimono billowing out angrily. "I'm starting an empire here, not a tourist trap. They had better have a good reason for it, or heads will roll!"
Then she saw how her tirade had effected the trembling Mouse in Val's arms. She sighed, frustrated with herself for loosing her cool. Mortals could be so fragile when the living dead lost their temper.
"Let me talk to cook about some hot miso soup. That should help her get to sleep," she offered. Then Scarlet turned and slipped through another sliding door in the wall.

Val noticed Scarlet's dramatic change in attitude, and wondered what was bothering her. was it something about the other Humans? was it Mouse? she had reigned herself in when the girl got frightened. it was as though Scarlet was fighting some internal battle.
he sighed, and smiled to Mouse. "don't worry, we all know she doesn't mean it. she's just frustrated." he told her. she nodded slowly, looking right at him. she didn't know why she was trusting him so easily, but she did. and he was glad for it, he needed her to trust.

Dmitri and Alfons stumbled across a path roughly 30 minutes into their hike. One way lead up the mountain, the other lead down and turned the direction they came from. Trees formed a natural wall around the edges. "Oh good. An hour or so following this and we should be there." Alfons headed up the mountain. Dmitri paused, having heard a twig snap behind him. He unholstered his gun, turning to survey the dark woods. Unable to see clearly, he shrugged and went after Alfons, returning his gun to its holster.
Five minutes later, Vincent emerged from the trees with a devious look on his face, and continued his pursuit.

Ciro walked slowly over to the spring. His arms were crossed in a way that made his sleeves join ends. Gazing up at the moon, he sighed heavily. "Things never go according to plan, it seems."

Manguusu felt a chill. Another presence, one he'd not felt for ages, was heading the same way he was. He could feel its strength from miles away.
"What is happening?" he wondered.

"I can tell your bothered, Ciro." Val said suddenly. "it's about Goldschmit, isn't it? you have a feeling, and you should trust your instinct."
he moved out of the shadowed area he was leaning, unnoticed before. walking over to the Vampire Childe, he placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I think I'm going to go find Scarlet; I need to talk to her magesty." he said, and then headed off, a slight grunt in his voice.
he walked in teh direction that she went off to, hoping to find her or one of her servants. his first destination would be the kitchen.

Scarlet talked with the chef, a retired (washed out) sumo with multiple tattoos over his arms and face. He was happy to put together dinner for the girl, and promised to send several bottles of saki out to the guests. Scarlet turned to leave the kitchen and ran into Val.
"Darling, is everything alright?" she asked.

"You're right," Ciro responded to Val. "He's been acting strange the whole time we've been in Japan. Something's not quite right." Val placed his hand on Ciro's shoulder and told him he was going to find Scarlet. "By all means, go ahead."

Alfons noticed several bamboo stalks among the trees. "We're close!" he shouted to Dmitri.
"Only because you run zis whole time!" Dmitri yelled back, gasping. Soon the bamboo grew thicker, and a loud buzzing sound could be heard to the left of the path. "Vhat's zat noise?" Dmitri asked Alfons--who had slowed to a more reasonable pace--as he caught up.
"The giant hornet nest the old coot hasn't gotten rid of yet," Alfons whispered. Even though it was dark out, and the hornets were mostly resting several meters away, he didn't want to risk making them angry. "We'll walk from now on."

Vincent lost sight of his targets. He pulled out his cellphone. Checking the signal, he was stunned that he actually had reception. He called for reinforcements to meet him at the shrine up ahead.

Manguusu tracked the mysterious aura as it got closer to home. He paced back and forth in the car, trying to remember where he'd felt it before.

he grunted. "I came to ask you that." he said.
then he lowered his voice. "something's bothering you, and we can't have our Empress-to-be distracted while operations are under way. what's wrong, Scarlet?"

Scarlet smiled her most beguiling smile, glinting her fangs. "Whatever makes you think something is the matter? I'm only trying to start an empire of the fantastic AND mortal worlds, and half of my council keeps skipping out on me. I just have a hundred mini-battles to fight before I can even set one cheek on my throne, and it just makes me wonder if the whole thing is worth all the effort of making it official."
Then she put one finger to the side of her mouth as she pondered.
"You know, it might be a good idea for me to have a personal aid. Ciro is my body guard, but a secretary would be nice. Someone I can prop up in heals and fishnets while they recite my schedule for the day..." she grinned. "I think that would be just the roll for my little Kyo-kyo!"

Val instantly became a little nervous, knowing that Scarlet was usually very mischievous with her plans. who could know what she was up to with this idea of hers? but he also knew that she was no fool, and her little pet in mind would probably prove very useful later.
"heh... kyo-kyo? who's that?" he inquired with a smirk, waiting for the arrival of the called servant-to-be.
