Lin blinked again, though for a different reason. If the Borderlands was such a scary place according to stories (so bad they thought the Maiar were there) why did they still get slavers? Then she realized... in some ways Levi's people were very smart, they stayed away, therefore the slavers must not be smart at all.

"Human that never gets old? Oh yea... Haven had to be founded over half a century ago now," Lin looked up at the sky to think about it.

It was hard to believe since her Dad was hardly ever around to even hunt that much unlike the others. She looked back at Levi, no wonder why they never got to see the good humans in Haven!

"Uhm... wow.... where to begin...." Lin mused, "I mean... it's not that all humans that go to the Borderlands are killed it's just so far all the humans that go to the Borderland are slavers. Well almost all humans..."

Seeing as she herself had never been killed, she obviously didn't fall under that category.

"I've never heard of the Maiar being there, and I've been pretty much half raised there and can't recall them being there....."

Levi looked at Lin through narrow eyes. "You talk as if you were there before it began," he said suspiciously. "But you can't be the human they talk about ... they talk about a fierce warrior who kills with thunder ..."

Surely it couldn't be Lin, the sweet-looking girl who looked no older than him ...

"Thunder?" Lin tilted her head yet again.

She had skipped over his comment about her being there since it began she didn't need to explain her very strange time constraints. Though maybe she could honestly say it just took her a long while to grow up.

After several moments it clicked in her head what it could have been that might seem like thunder. Her Dad had a gun, there was a story of him using it once but that was before Haven. Ah well she supposed a human was a human and a human as unusual as her father probably got all his stories melded into one.

"Oh..... I think you're talking about my Dad, he started Haven."

Levi blinked at Lin, and the confused look on his face only deepened. "Your father is the one who doesn't grow old?" he asked incredulously. "And what is Haven?"

There was clearly more to this girl than met the eye - small though she was, and feminine though she was, she had a history to her that the young rover man could not begin to imagine.

Great... she confused another person, she never meant to confuse people, but it always happened with her complicated family history. She didn't know how to explain her father because her father was mortal (as far as she knew) and he would age... eventually... probably not until centuries from now in this world.

"Ah.... he just ages really really slowly," Lin shrugged, "I think..."

She was pretty sure that one day he would have a gray hair on that impeccable black head of his.

"Haven was founded as a place to rescue children stolen by slavers. It's in the Borderlands, which is probably how the Borderlands now has it's reputation. Sometimes slavers come close to Haven, which is maybe how you ended up hearing all those stories about humans going to the Borderlands and never coming back? I mean besides those in my family, the only humans that never come near the Borderlands are slavers not happy with Haven."

It didn't look as though Levi understood what Lin meant by her father aging very very slowly, but he didn't press the issue - he wasn't entirely sure that he wanted to know. Instead, he decided that he would ask more about the slavers and this 'Haven' place.

"So what is it like at Haven?" he asked. "If there are no Maiar there, who does live there? And why would slavers go there if they're just going to die?"

"Elves from all the elven kingdoms come to Haven to work there," Lin replied, "It's for the most part like a normal ranch, that mainly raises horses for a living. People live, get married, have kids..."

She paused a bit, well she had to admit Haven wasn't completely normal it seemed to attract the most amazing people with all sorts of reputations and gifts.

"The only part where it's not normal is several times a year several fighters would go out and track down slavers to rescue children from. They would take the children to Haven to heal up and recover before trying to return them to their homes."

And some day she figured if she ever wanted to stop traveling that was where she was going to settle down. Unless of course the slavers smartened up which didn't sound like it at all.

"I don't know why they sometimes come by," Lin admitted, "I guess they think they can stop the fighters there, maybe they want revenge for the slavers they killed. Who knows..."

Levi was impressed. "It sounds like they're wonderful people," he smiled. "When you put it that way, I can see why you would like it there so much. Tell me, do they have any rivers or waterfalls? I'm quite partial te them, and I think if they have any there I might talk te Father about a visit."

He paused. "If it would be safe," he added as an afterthought.

"You're not slavers," Lin replied, "It would be safe and most of the fighters are old. Some of them have traveled, I'm sure they would know your people on sight."

She hummed a bit, thinking if there was a waterfall, there wasn't one as far as she knew, there was that underground cave but she didn't know how to get back to it.

"There's a river that cuts through the Borderlands, in the valley," she answered, "I know there are a few springs in the mountains...."

She frowned a bit.

"There's this one place, but I don't know how to get there, it's an underground cave that has a spring, it's very warm but that's interesting is the fish there glow in the dark, I think it has to do with the minerals that are in the water they swim in."

Levi looked rather intrigued by the idea. "I think that would be most interesting," he murmured. "I'll speak te Father about a visit there. He's mentioned a few times that he has wanted te, but he didn't want te because of the rumours ..."

He smiled at Lin. "Perhaps one day we might meet up there again," he said softly.

"I'd like that," Lin replied honestly, but there was a bit of sadness she was trying to keep out.

It occurred to Lin that she even if she saw him again it would be many years from now more likely than not. He would have aged and she would have stayed the same, because in reality while it was her father he was talking about. Lin too had joined the ranks of humans that would never grow old.

That was a hard thing to imagine, especially since she was suppose to be human. At least if she had looked like an angel like her mother at least she would have an easier to excuse. How does one go about explaining being an immortal human?

"You'll like it, the people there are nice."

Levi smiled warmly at Lin. "I'm sure I would like it," he said softly.

It was then that the women rovers came around to collect their dishes, and while they headed towards the river to wash the dishes, the men took out some clay pipes and began to smoke. Levi didn't have a pipe, but he stretched a bit and shifted his position in the sand.

"Once the work is done," he confided, "we'll have some music. Would you like te dance with me then?"

Lin watched the smoking for a moment at least until Levi mentioned dancing. She fidgeted a bit, she had seen people dance together, but watching people dance in Gaia did not count as far as she was concerned.

"I've... never danced with someone before," Lin admitted.

She danced solo but those were the (boring) lessons she had to take because her grandmother wanted her to.

"It's very easy," Levi assured her, "and a lot of fun. I can teach you. Besides, it's not as if it matters how you dance - it's just our families, and your friends here."

He smiled warmly at her, his eyes sparkling even in the growing darkness. "Please?" he asked softly.

This was true, and looking around Lin looked back at Levi and nodded.

"Alright," she murmured, "I'll give it a try."

Besides she should at least try it once before writing it off.
