((Okey-dokey!))

She didn't count the days that she walked with two young babies held to her back. She didn't count the nights that she lay awake, watching her boys sleep and missing the man she was now searching for. She hadn't cried since the discovery of that note, and she hadn't let herself miss what was now long behind.
How long had it been? Waking early, before the sun even peeked it's rays to announce its coming, Ashierra sat and watched the horizon as the stars dimmed to the overpowering sunlight. The track was getting older all the time... She was afraid to push the boys too far though. Her tail twitched at the thought of her sons. They'd had the chance to live in a home, grow up safe and protected. She had allowed herself to take that from them, and it constantly picked at her brain. And, if anything, their presence made her miss their father even more. Each little growth spurt brought out more of their father's features than the previous one.
Sighing, she shook her head and let her mind drift to better things. When the sky was more blue than black, she got up and started searching for breakfast. As soon as a town came up, she would have to stock up on fresh supplies...

In his usual manner, the now child aged Reed lay quietly awake, watching everything from the bugs fluttering in the cool morning air to his mother contemplating their lives. He hated watching her look like that, but was also interested. He remembered little of the father they were supposedly looking for. What had made him so special to bring that look to mother's face every morning?
He didn't really care at this point though if they found him or not. Mother kept them fed and happy, the walking kept bringing new experiences; what would a father give them? When Ashierra went to look for food, he stretched his legs out, getting up and grabbing a worn cube of fabric from his bag to play a little until his brother woke or mother returned.

Morning sunlight woke up Ross and the child stretched out slowly before peeking around. What was? Oh, right. Shaking his head Ross rubbed the sleepiness out of his eyes and blinked one more time. "Mornin'." He mumbled outloud to no one in particular before getting up.

It was barely morning so the cub had to push back the urge to curl up and get some more sleep in. Ever since he could remember they had always been on the road, rising early and going to bed late. All because of some father that he could barely remember. Ears twitching the small cattaur reached out to pick a flower and twirl it in his hands. But it was okay even if they never found the one who their mother was searching for - cuz traveling was nice. Staying in one spot sounded boring to him. Ross sneezed and dropped the flower before focusing in on the world around him. "Reed-Reed!" He whispered before pouncing on his brother, "Mornin!"

Chewing on that little cube, Reed's ears flicked as his brother stirred. He looked over at Ross and smiled before giving more attention to the cube. Every once in a while, a faint scent would drift from the center of the cube, one that was unknown but soothing, familiar only to his unconcious mind. He sometimes wondered if it was the scent of their father...
Looking up again at Ross' sneeze, he yelped at the pounce, rolling with his brother's momentum and laughing. "Mornin'." He said softly, nipping at Ross' ear.

The woods were thick in this area, making it difficult for Ashierra to see far ahead for any prey. The other thing making it difficult was the thought that she would never find Alek and kick his a**. His trail had gone cold a while ago, little sniffs of warmth guiding her in vague directions. So, why hadn't she given up yet? Perhaps it was about time to. The boys were children already...
She hadn't seen any sign of Alek's dark magic in them, but then again, she didn't know anything about it. The other reason she had kept trying to find the male. Hearing soft voices behind her of the boys talking to each other, she sat down and started to play with her own magic, listening for any prey that might be nearby as she cleared her head. Her mood affected her abilities though, and her fire's form had ragged rather than smooth edges. Sighing, she just closed her eyes, letting herself fall into huntress mode, searching the air for food for the boys.

"Hehe." Ross grinned before pulling back with the light apperance of sparks dancing on his fur. "You 'kay there?" He teased lightly before purring. Though his attention was quickly captured by that cube, "You still have that thing...from back then?" He whispered softly looking around to make sure that their mommy was still gone. Things like that might make her remember their father who brought her so much pain.

Though he wondered. What was their father doing now? How far away was he really? If he was even still out there. If only the boy could realize how close Alek really was at the moment...

Nodding happily to confirm that he was fine, he looked down at the little cube in question. He knew why Ross had asked, and his nod was small and slow. "I like it." He said simply, his eyes also peeking around for their mother.
Cotton was coming out from frayed edges and little tears of the fabric, and the once bright colors faded from light and use, but he couldn't bring himself to throw it away. He held it up to his chin and squeezed, allowing that faint scent to rise up again. He must have liked his father at one point to still enjoy the adult's scent, if that was indeed his scent.

Having gotten up and tracked more, Ashierra found a small watering hole that a clutch of groundhog like critters had gathered. Well, nothing else seemed to be stirring in this area... Sighing to herself, she crept close to the small creatures, sizing them up. That big one should be enough for the boys, maybe one for herself, and the other for storing until a town came along.
Focusing her magic again, instead of pouncing, she killed the critters instantly with her fire, too worn to worry about saving the furs. With the food cooked already, she grabbed it up and headed back to the little camp. As usual, she gave herself a small prep before seeing the boys. If she was going to properly push Alek from her mind, she had to stop seeing how alike the boys' features were to his. She couldn't let herself see Alek. It was just the boys.

"Ah, kay." Ross nodded before playfully moving around his brother to look around. Where were they even? The cattaur pouted before grinning, "Hey, hey! We should explore some, Reed! That'd be fun!" His stomach grumbled. Of course they would have to eat first. Where was mommy again?

Like a shadow the male cattaur moved through the woods. By this point Alek had been everywhere though it felt like he had made no progress at all. Sighing he slid against a tree for some rest. He hated resting though, it gave his mind time to wander. Time to wonder about Ashierra and the boys. His eyes closed. I'm sure she's moved on now. It was for the best right?

Prepped and ready, she made her way back to her sons, calling ahead to let them know it was her. "Okay boys. Dinner's ready to eat." She said, stepping through and handing them each their own share. No... prepping never helped much. The moment she looked at her sons, there was Alek... Sighing, she sat next to them, reached to scratch their ears, then ate her own food.

Thankful that Ashierra had called ahead, Reed quickly pushed the cube back into his pack. He gave her a bright smile, looking at the pre-cooked meat. ....Pre-cooked? She usually let them help cook... He wouldn't complain though. He wasn't very magically inclined at the moment. His little fizzling sparks wouldn't cook a leaf. Relieved about the saved trouble, he dug into his crispy critter.
Glancing at Ross, he swallowed a bite and turned his eyes to their mother. "Momma? Can Ross and me go esplorin'? We won't go far."

Unlike his brother, Ross was just happy to have food. Even though for a second the fact that it was precooked made him frown the child was just happy to eat."Yay!" Ross grabbed his food and had most of it scarfed down by the time his brother asked the question.

"Yeah, can we momma? We'll behave promise!" He turned towards her and gave her his best pleading face."Pwease?"

Licking warm juices from her fingers, Ashierra sighed softly at their request. She hadn't noticed any particular dangers in the forest, but... Shaking her head, she gave the boys a smile. "As long as you don't go to far." They weren't babies anymore. She couldn't treat them as such. "We still have some ground to cover today."

"Yay!" Quickly scraping off the last bit of meat from the carcass, Reed rushed to get his hands and face mess free before jumping up and grabbing his pack. Maybe they would find something interesting to bring back? "Hurry up Ross!"

"Kay!" Ross was practically bouncing up and down in excitement as he finished his food. He wiped his face a couple of times before going after his own small pack and following his brother. "I'm hurryin'!" He laughed and playfully saluted his brother, "Lead the way, capt'!" Oh, this was going to be such fun! Ross grinned, how far exactly was to far again? He glanced around, eh. Surely it wouldn't be too hard to find their way back to camp.

Watching the boys scurry off, Ashierra suddenly didn't know what to do with herself. She was usually watching them or hunting! Sighing, she took her time clearing away the dinner remains and decided to organize her backpack. Not like it was in disarray, but perhaps she could lighten her load somehow, or could find something to freshen up and sell at the next town. Or, maybe...

Perking his ears and tail happily, Reed ran on, bouncing over and under logs and chasing the bugs that were stirred up by their noise. He tried to pay attention to where they were going, but he didn't realize how everything seemed to look the same... He was enjoying the freedom too much to notice something as trivial as that though. His usual calm demeanor was replaced by the joy of a child with the world at his paws!

Running after his brother the young cattaur grinned. This was amazing! Flames flickered on the tip of his tail before he playfully jumped at his brother. "Tag, Reed!" Laughing the boy turned and ran through the trees.

Was there someone out here? Opening an eye the male cattaur looked around. So far he didn't see anyone. Yet, something felt different....probably wasn't anything important though. Sighing he closed his eyes and leaned back against the tree.

Reed yelped lightly at the unexpected tackled, scurrying to his feet with a playful growl. "I'mma get you!" He chased through the trees, doing his best to keep his brother in sight. Luckily, the orangy-red color stood out amongst all the green. He reached out, Ross' tail just out of reach.

"No ya don't!" Ross laughed as he turned so he could stick his tongue out at his brother. Of course the little cattaur ended up tripping and started rolling. "Ouch!" Wincing he slammed against a tree before falling even further. "Reed! Reeeee-!"

What was going on? Alek bolted up from his napping spot before looking around. Had someone just yelled? Frowning the cattaur began to move towards the noise.

Reed felt the tip of Ross' tail brush his fingers before the boy tripped. Naturally, Reed's first reaction was to laugh at his silly brother for tripping. But that laughter quickly morphed into a holler. "Ross!" He pumped his legs, but Ross was rolling faster than he could run, and there were too many leaves poking his face. "Stop, Ross!! Ross!!"
