Having given Akiko a bit of a pointer when it came to chakra, Sukotto continued to think about the upcoming mission, and how he would quickly prepare whatever squad he ended up with. The most important thing about a squad was its ability to work well together, so Sukotto figured that he'd, at the very least, get some sort of team-based training session in, if only to measure the squad's capability of functioning together, even if the squad consisted of only Akiko and himself. The key to a efficient team was directly related to their skill of focusing on a given situation, and then combining an attack to bring down a powerful foe. This combined attack was much more powerful, and more importantly, much more accurate than a singular attack, and Sukotto knew that having his squad being able to perform one of these would really help them out on the mission, especially since some animals had a knack for dodging attacks.

Unfortunately, Sukotto's attacks were already quite powerful on their own, which meant that it was quite hard for anyone to combine their own attacks with his. Since he had trained on his own for most of his time in Shimagakure, the Uchiha hadn't really focused on the element of teamwork, which was something that he regretted quite a bit. It would take quite a bit of work before he was able to combine his attacks with anyone, but if it helped the shinobi that ended up on his future teams, then the Uchiha would definitely push himself to get to that point. For, even if his attacks were strong on their own, they would mean nothing if the squad ran into an enemy which was more powerful than he, which was quite likely, given the known strength of the shinobi world outside of Shimagakure. In fact, Sukotto lost quite a few fights to enemies who had surpassed his own power. This is part of the reason that he wished to emphasis teamwork so heavily.

Akiko took the man's words to heart. Certainly, it seemed that she performed better when her mind was at ease. This was a difficult thing to do, her mind being the way it was. Simply thinking about things would cause her head to buzz with activity. She'd take an idea, turn it this way, stretch it that way, and mull it over until she developed something else out of it. It was even worse when she got bored; she'd quickly grow bored and restless. Perhaps, then, she needed to find something that was simple and didn't require much thought. Several ideas passed through her mind, but none of them quite fit the requirements. She sighed, and the chakra around her dissipated. "I dunno... there's just too much going on right now..." she resigned, hanging her head.

When Akiko said that there was too much going on at the moment, Sukotto agreed. The village had been through a lot, and a great number of shinobi and villagers alike had lost their lives. Unfortunately, all that really remained were a few young shinobi who didn't even come close to the power of the previous village heads in Shimagakure. They had one Jounin, but Sukotto wasn't sure how powerful the Hyuuga even was, especially since he hadn't ever taken on a Hyuuga himself. To solve Akiko's dilemma, the Uchiha thought back through all of the tough training sessions that he had found himself in. One of the most difficult of these was when Uchiha Ichi was teaching him how to escape a genjutsu attack. The former Kage of Shimagakure had surrounded Sukotto in a dark void, closing the outside world to the fledgling Uchiha. Sukotto eventually broke free from this technique by focusing his attention on the items of everyday life that most people take for granted: the wind, the feel of tiny dust and dirt particles brushing against one's flesh, the smell of the sea no matter where you stood on Shimagakure. He figured that this could definitely help Akiko with her problem. "Well, there is always plenty going on. Unfortunately, as shinobi, we have to learn how to tune some things out so that we can focus on things more clearly than our enemies. There will be a lot going on in the battles that you may find yourself in and you'll need to be ready to concentrate on what's important at the time." Sukotto closed his eyes and concentrated on the sound of the waves crashing against the bottom of the cliffs beneath them. "To clear your mind, imagine those waves down there. Listen very carefully to their sound. Allow yourself to feel those tiny droplets of water in the air, and the smell of the sea. Once you've tuned everything else out, you will be able to shift your focus from the sea to your training more easily than shifting it from the confusion of the village right now." The Chuunin grinned and began to wonder if Ichi would have said anything similar to the girl.

Sukotto continued to consider the mission that he had been tasked with completing. He figured that it wouldn't be the most dangerous mission that he had ever been on, but decided that it would be best for him to pretend that it was. After all, he knew that underestimating one's challenges was one of the biggest mistakes that anyone could make. Since he would treat this mission as if it was the most difficult he had ever experienced, he decided to think about the mission that had actually been the most dangerous for him, the attack on the Orochi village. Sukotto would analyze the decisions of the higher ranking shinobi, find their flaws, and do his best to avoid making these same flaws on his mission into the infected wilderness. In addition to this, he would examine his own mistakes on the mission, and do his best to figure what sort of training he could do to improve himself individually in order to complete the objective without losing anyone to the wilds.

Unfortunately, since the two missions were quite different, Sukotto would be forced to take a different approach to his mission, so he decided to figure out these differences before considering the flaws of the Orochi mission. For one, the purpose of the attack on the Orochi village, to his knowledge, was to reclaim a stolen scroll, and to assassinate one of the Orochi leaders. Sukotto wasn't exactly aware of how powerful that scroll was, how well it was defended, or what kind of abilities this Orochi leader had. His mission was to enter the wilderness and thin the numbers of infected beasts that he found. The primary difference was that the Orochi mission's plan could have utilized stealth more effectively than his could. His team could still attempt to be stealthy, but fooling the senses of animals would be much more difficult than fooling the senses of the Orochi.

In addition, Sukotto's squad would be aiming to destroy a larger number of targets than the members of the Orochi mission were aiming to destroy. This meant that there would be more intentional fights, and while stealth could help to get the jump on an animal, a fight could lure other infected beasts into the area, thus making the task much more dangerous and difficult. Unfortunately for the members of the Orochi mission, the stealth had failed, or at least that's what the Uchiha believed, as many shinobi ended up fighting battles that involved one versus one combat. Sukotto found this to be a worst case scenario for all missions, since one cannot rely on receiving any help in that kind of battle. The Uchiha would do everything he could to make sure that none of his squad mates ever ended up in a predicament such as that; he would emphasize teamwork above all else.

The sea? Akiko had a lot of complex feelings about the sea right now. Among them was the confusion surrounding her father's appearance. She wasn't convinced it was real, and now she couldn't remember if it really happened. She felt conflicted, too; her father had wanted her to become stronger for her own good, not so that she may pursue him. But now, the village was suffering, and she couldn't find the motivation to do anything. She had come here on the request of this man, though she knew nothing about it. Why had she come, anyway? She had forgotten. But, she supposed, nothing was going to come of it quite yet. So, she had plenty of time to consider learning this new technique. She tried again, breathing in deeply. She struggled not to think about the sea... she didn't want visions of her father interfering with this technique. As she struggled to maintain her focus, a white wind swirled out from her being, thrashing about like waves against the rocks. Everything that it hit was engulfed as the strange wind rushed up over it. The choppy sea caught her eye as soon as she opened it. This... wasn't exactly a success, but she had managed to spread it out like she desired. So, perhaps it would be possible to do this.

She knew she needed to make the circle much calmer if she hoped to make any use of it. Akiko thought back to this first attempt; was there a specific cause for the turbulance? Well, she was in a disturbed emotional state at the time. Come to think of it, this was also the case when she was in her trance earlier--only pain and instability came of that. Perhaps, then, the quality of the technique was tied to her state of mind. Then, logically, if she wanted a tranquil circle, she needed a tranquil soul. This... was difficult to do. There was so much on her mind that she needed to process, but... the man was right. She was a ninja. She had to put it aside and focus on the task at hand. But, if she didn't deal with the problem, it might get worse; that was what she feared. Nevertheless, she decided to try to repress her emotions for now. She tried thinking of something else. The sea metaphor didn't work as splendidly as she had hoped. Instead, she turned her mind to the pond in her garden. The water there was very still. It could only be disturbed if something fell in it or if she put her fingers in it. Then, small, soft circles would flow outward before disappearing, leaving the water clear and undisturbed again. She always went there when she wanted to relax. It was such a peaceful place, surrounded by sweet-smelling flowers. The warmth of the sun would pour in from the sky, and at night the pool would reflect the countless stars. With little effort at all, chakra began radiating outward, just like a misty, white ripple in a pond.

Akiko observed her efforts. It seemed that she had managed to get her chakra to a point where she'd be able to do something with it. Yet, there still seemed to be something a bit off about it. Perhaps it was too still? No, that wasn't quite right--the chakra wrapped around the obstacles just fine. Maybe it was a bit too thick? Surely, if it were already misty out, she'd be able to conceal it well. Yet, as it was, she had to make it so that it wasn't so noticeable. She tried again, concentrating on her little peaceful, secluded place. But, she tried to make it seem distant as possible--she supposed that if she weren't concentrating on it so hard, she might not make it as thick. Surely enough, only a light layer of fog began to cover the ground. She laid down upon the rocky path, pushing away the rubble and clearing a spot where she could make herself comfortable. "The next part is tricky," she said, thinking aloud just as much as she was informing the man there. "I think I have to 'connect' with the land, with my chakra. The problem is, it's too vague. It's an abstract theory, and that's not my strong suit." She hoped she was describing it correctly; she wasn't entirely sure at this point.

Connecting with the land. This was common among water, earth, wind, and lightning users in that they had to connect with nature in some sort of way in order to make their techniques more effective. Sukotto was no master of these sorts of elements, as he only had fire at his disposal, an element that he had to create himself, but he did understand the concept of the former elements. "If I'm not mistaken, you're talking about mixing your chakra with nature, which is something that shinobi have to do if they wish to use nature0-based elemental ninjutsu. Water shinobi have to mix their chakra into the liquid, and Earth shinobi have to fuse theirs into the ground. I'm not the best person to give advice about this, as my fire jutsu is created in a different way, but try to imagine your chakra as a waterfall pouring out of your body and soaking everything around you." Sukotto thought about this for a moment before continuing, "Don't just brush your chakra against everything around you, but convince it to actually seep into the things around you, becoming a part of the world."

After giving Akiko what advice he could, Sukotto continued to think about the upcoming mission. He had been thinking of his opinion of a worst case scenario on a mission, having all squad members engaged in one versus one battles. Indeed, Ichi himself ended up dead after fighting a battle of this kind. If Shinichi had been there to help him out, the outcome would have probably been much different, Sukotto thought. He wasn't sure what sort of ridiculous power the Orochi leader had to defeat the first Kage of Shimagakure, but even if the Orochi was twice as strong as Ichi, having Shinichi there would have made the difference. Sukotto began to understand the values of teamwork when he fought against Tategami Maya and Baki in a two versus one battle. If he hadn't played his hand perfectly, then the duo would have made short work of the young Uchiha. Sukotto wanted to harness this sort of power for his own squad.

Akiko ran her eyes over the jagged surface of the cliffs as she prepared the next step. She managed to replicate the physical attributes of the ethereal state of being... but she was using her chakra, not her entire soul. Now, technically, she was supposed to infuse her consciousness with the land and spread it out at the same time. However, all of this was theoretical, and she wanted to know if this was feasible in the first place. This next step was undoubtedly harder; she had to enter that ethereal state of mind, a staggering concept. All of this was so... unscientific. She was having a difficult time wrapping her mind around it. So, instead, she tended to the preparation. She spread out her chakra just like before, but this time, she tried to envision herself melting down into it. Immediately, she got very light-headed, so much that she had to pull out prematurely. "Unngh..." she moaned. Once her head stopped spinning, she looked up at the man beside her. "Umm, mister? I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name..." she mentioned weakly. "I'm not sure what this is going to do to me... could you take care of my body, please?"

Nadeshiko hopped to it, and could see the rugged terrain of the cliffs off a short distance away. Moving closer towards the cliffs, she saw two figures. She also noted how the new name for these cliffs, the scarred cliffs, was extremely accurate. It really did appear to carry some terrible physical marks of the burden and pressure felt by Shimagakure at present. Nadeshiko slowed down, moving closer carefully, afraid of disrupting the two people; they mgiht be concentrating on something important. She was peeking out from behind a large rock, and recognized that the smaller of the two as a fellow student, Tenmoki Akiko. Slightly relieve to see a familiar face, Nadeshiko looked out a little more, and saw a young man she didn't know with Akiko. Was this Uchiha Sukotto? She would find out later. Akiko looked like she was working very hard.

Uchiha Sukotto wondered what Akiko had in mind that had caused her to ask him to look over her body as she continued on with her latest training exercise. The Chuunin nodded in response, "My name is Sukotto, and no worries, I have trouble with names myself sometimes! Of course I'll look after your body, just be careful with whatever you're doing." Since he was on his guard due to the attack that had taken place on the village, he noticed a presence in the area. He didn't have a bad feeling about it, but wasn't exactly sure who or what it was. For the time being, he'd just play it off as though he hadn't noticed and see how things went. If it was an enemy that returned to finish Shimagakure off, he would be ready, however, he figured that that was an off chance.
