Conall followed his sense of smell to the cafeteria. When he arrived, he saw a few people in there, the closest to him being a young woman and man talking. Passing by them, he walked up to the counter and ordered his food, a PB&J sandwich with a glass of milk. He wanted something that didn't require much chewing, being that he could not chew with his mouth closed. Anyone that's seen a dog eat knows because of the shape of their mouth, this is the only option for eating.
Conall sat by himself, as far away from the others as he could and began to eat his food in silence. Some might question if he was able to eat certain foods or be restricted from eating anything with sugar like most canines. But Conall is able to eat just about any food that humans can eat and even some that humans can't. However, chocolate does seem to make him ill.

"Well, unfortunately, I doubt that I'm the first one to welcome you here, but welcome to the school for the incredibly odd and talented," Dmitri said with a broad grin on his face.
He then shrugged in response to her question and leaned backwards in his seat slightly.
"As for me, I've been here a while now," he said, his eyes wandering. "At least two years? Maybe? I can't remember anymore."
He shook his head lightly and lay it down on top of his arms, which he had folded across the table. He looked up at her with his deep brown eyes. The fact that he was now looking up almost gave him the 'puppy dog pout' expression, though it wasn't what he was intending.
"You like this place so far?" he asked, curiously.

She was surprised to hear that he had been there for around two years. "Thank you at any rate." she said with a smile. He was only the second person to welcome her so it wasn't old yet. She turned thoughtful at her question, she had enjoyed being with Marcus and speaking with Logan. Looking at his expression she couldn't help but smile her eyes softening a bit as she looked at his eyes. They reminded her of chocolate. It had been almost 60 years since she had seen eyes like that but she still loved the look, it was cute. Watching his eyes for a moment she remembered he had asked a question and answered, "I suppose so. The people I have met are nice and there is a professor here who is a Bio genius. I had a chance to wonder around for a little bit. I think it will be a fun next few months." Smiling happily she already had next next destination picked.

Dmitri continued to stare up at her. He blinked twice before stretching his arms out.
"That's good," he commented, bending his arms once more to fit underneath his chin. "At least you seem relatively calm about everything. I've seen kids completely loose it before once they start out here. A lot of them are just normal humans though, with no mutant powers at all."
He reluctantly straightened his back once more and sat up in a regular position.
"I can sympathize with them, though. It's gotta be pretty scary to come to a new school only to find a bunch of kids who can suddenly do all sorts of stuff they were taught was humanly impossible."

Bringing her knees, she wrapped her arms around her legs resting her head, "Wow. Honestly it's a bit odd after the Amazon but the people don't seem all that odd. They are polite and nothing has tried to kill me yet, it's been a pretty good day. Of course I suppose I would take it differently if I had been human at any point." Shrugging her shoulders she had heard that some developed their powers later than others, she wasn't mutant or human so she didn't know, just what she heard. Trying to get comfortable in those chairs was irritating. When she had been daydreaming she hadn't noticed but now actively awake, they weren't that comfortable. Putting her feet down she lay her head on the table with her arms as a pillow. Dmitri had the right idea.

Teddy grinned wickedly. A natural hot springs. Now that was something she had never experienced. Sure, she had almost boiled over their small surburan lake trying to recreate one but it had been nowehere as nice as what she imagined the real thing to be. She was hoping this one wouldn't smell like sulphur and ash like hers had. Or maybe it the boiled fish that had made it smell funny.

"It doesn't smell like boiled fish, does it?" she asked, wrinkling her nose at the memory. "And how is it heated? Geothermically or by an underlying volcano?" she quizzed him while menatlly flipping through the different sources of heat in her mind like one would a picture album.

"I bet it's the latter, considering the moutain so close by." She asked only to answer her own question in the next breath. "No, if it was heated by a volcano it would smell like boiled flesh."

Unable to think of a decent answer herself, she turned to Logan and waited for his answer, even though she had never really given a straight question.

Victoria sat in her dorm watching 'Planet Earth' on th National Geographic channel. "Dogs are still wild?" She asked aloud then turned to Conalls bed. "Heehee, doggy doggy. I wonder if he's like my dog back home." She giggled again and continued to watch the wild dogs hunt down the poor oryx. "Ha! Nom nom nom."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 24, 2009 1:59 pm

Logan smiled at her question. She was rather curious now, wasn't she?
"Well," he began, "I don't know exactly for sure, but going on my better judgment, I'd say they're heated by geothermic heat. As far as I know, there aren't any active volcanoes around here, so that would knock out the second option. So I would imagine that the water in them goes far enough past the Earth's surface that they reach the heated rock towards the core. The waters get heated then get pushed back up to the surface in springs. So that's my guess."
He glanced back at her as they continued to walk. They were getting closer to the entrance at that point and he could almost see the pool.
"Besides, if they were heated by volcanoes, they would probably much hotter than they are," he added. "The water would be heated by coming into contact with magma and therefore be near the boiling point. It would be rather dangerous for our students to be going into waters that hot."

-----------------------------------

Dmitri smiled at her taking on his previous position. It had been comfortable, but he didn't like looking up at her all the time. It hurt his eyes. Now that she had put her head down as well, he could do it again. Of course he did, resting his chin on his forearms as he stared over at Akido.
"The Amazon?" he echoed, wondering what she meant. "Have you been to the Amazon?"

She nodded a bit awkwardly with her head down like it was, "Yup. The Amazon was my last stop before I heard about this place. I like to travel and I had never been so I spent the winter down in what's left of the jungles some of the tribes down there are amazing. It took me almost a month to get good enough at their language to understand a word of what they said." Giggling a bit at the memory of hand signals and frustration, "I was going to head to Australia next but I missed sleeping in a bed and I figured it wasn't going anywhere." Brushing her hair back off her face she asked, "How bout you? Travel much?" She smiled then rephrased, "Travel much for any long term stays?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 24, 2009 4:30 pm

Dmitri smiled at her mention of learning a new language. It reminded him of going from Russian to English.
"Ах, удивление изучения новых языков," he said in his native tongue. He didn't expect her to understand him, but it still got his point across.
"And as for traveling," he said, rolling his head over to the side a bit. "I didn't travel much as a kid. Russia is not known for it's vacations. Nor it's millionaires. My family wasn't very rich, so no, we didn't get out much." He shrugged as best he could before straightening his head back up.
"Moving from Russia to here pretty much is the extent of my traveling."

She grinned as he spoke what she assumed was Russian running it through her mind in other similar Slavic languages she knew bits of. Pushing the challenge aside she listened to what he said, "Oh. I never used to be able to get out much either. I pretty much just walk wherever I am heading, or hitch hike. Usually whoever I am traveling with is nice enough to give me a bite to eat before sending me off. I remember when I made a run through Leningrad, I thought it was a beautiful country. I wish I could have stayed a bit." Frowning for a moment at why she had been running but the memory was short lived and she smiled once more, "If you decide to leave this place you should give it a try. The world is huge and always changing and if you repeat that sentence I might be able to tell you at least part of it. It seems close to Ukrainian. The only word I could easily context is язык which I think is 'language'." Picking off another M&M from the brownie she slipped it into her mouth before pushing it away so she wouldn't continue to pick at it. "Sorry Languages are a hobby of mine. I had to learn a bunch when I was younger, I guess the habit never left." Grinning she laughed lightly, "Is it me or am I babbling quite a lot tonight?"

Dmitri chuckled lightly into his sleeve.
"Very good, I wouldn't have expected anyone to know that," he said, referring to her translation. He had just met her, but he could tell he liked her already. Then again, Dmitri liked almost everyone, so it wasn't really a big deal. But he always liked meeting new people.
"удивление изучения новых языков," he repeated, enunciating every syllable and pausing between the words.
"And I'll take you up on that," he added. "I wasn't planning on going back to Russia once I left here. It's rather cold and the government gets worse and worse every year. Or at least, so I hear. I'm not much of a political person. I just know what I hear."

She laughed setting up a bit, "Most people are saner than I am and have more regular hobbies." She still listened to him as he spoke but she mouthed the words he had just said in Russian with her eyes closed her mind running through ever language she had ever learned dredging back until she found the language model she was looking for. At a young age she had been taught Language is like math. You need to be able to solve it accurately. You couldn't negotiate with people you can't understand, of course this wasn't what they had in mind. "I think you said 'The- something- of the study of new languages'" Opening her eyes again, "I don't keep up with politics anymore but I heard something along those lines. If you don't know where you want to travel you could throw a dart at a map." She didn't admit often but that was how she chose her next destination. Problem was she was getting to be a pretty good aim. Watching him she was resisting the urge to ask him to say something else, it was childish and she didn't want to annoy him horribly.

Dmitri chuckled again with a grin on his face.
"You were close. I said 'The wonder of learning new languages'," he corrected. "You did very well though, getting that much out of it."
He closed his eyes and stretched his arms across the table top, looking almost like how a cat would stretch. When he stopped, he just let his arms hang loosely in front of him and he opened his eyes to look back over at Akido.
"I'll worry about where I'm going when I can go there. For now, I'm content with staying here," he said.
He began to swing his feet under the table as he continued to stare at her. He was rather restless. He always had been since he could remember. His parents had blamed it partially on his ability to teleport, that it made him want to teleport anytime he could. He just thought he didn't like to stay in one place for long.
"So, uh, you wanna go swimming or something?" he asked her after a moment. "I somehow doubt you've had a chance to go swimming in the pool here, being your first day and all...."

She grinned at the compliment. She hadn't thought she was going to get that close. She disagreed when people said they couldn't go somewhere when they wanted. You could do anything if you were willing to pay the consequences. Hearing the prospect of swimming she had forgotten there was a pool as she sat up suddenly. "Sure I love the water I haven't been swimming in forever." Getting up she pushed her chair in wondering out loud without really meaning to, "Why can't you travel now if you want to?"
