"I think he liked my tail," was all that Ryu could come up with to explain this little miracle.
Though it took a while for him to be comfortable even with his tail, but it was a start.

A light grew in Aliya's eyes, and it quickly became obvious that she was trying not to laugh.
"Well, it all happens in small steps," she giggled. "I'm just glad he didn't run, crying. It's amazing that he even just stayed here with you."
"Oh, I think he tried running away," Lothiriel laughed, "but I don't think Tao would let him."
Pen stared at her. "You know the griffin, too," he stated flatly, his tone full of disbelief. "How does one know a griffin."

"Why not?" Feng asked Pen very amused, "After all Tao was around the first time my parents visited the Southland, so it is possible to know a griffin. Besides, she's not just any griffin."
At least in Feng's eyes Tao was not just any griffin.
"Lothiriel is right," Ryu chuckled, "Tao wanted to come greet us, she use to give us rides too when we were little so that might have something to do with it."

Aliya giggled. "Well, Tao is quite the amazing creature," she murmured happily. "She's done the children - and us - a world of good."
She smiled and reached one hand out. "Come here, Tao," she called the griffin over to her.

Tao looked up to see Aliya there, and with a happy sort of squawk she got to her feet and ambled over to the elven woman. This person she recognized, that being said she was more than happy to attempt to nuzzle Aliya's hand for some petting time.
Not like she didn't get enough of that from Adonijah.

Aliya smiled and stroked Tao's beak, then petted her head and heck.
"Tao has made all of us feel comfortable here, and the children are safe outside alone ... she truly has been a gift, a blessing."
Lothiriel smiled warmly and reached out one hand to brush against the griffin's wing. "She's beautiful," she murmured.
"She is," Aliya grinned - and then she laughed. "So easily distracted, what's worng with me? I haven't even learned your names!"

Feng giggled at that before helping to introduce the other two, "This is Lothiriel, and this is Pen."
It was Ryu who explained the two, well explained Lothiriel anyhow, it sounded like Pen was just along for the ride.
"Lothiriel is Elrohir's niece, she's Gion's daughter."

Aliya's eyes lit up again. "Oh!" she exclaimed happily. "Cousins! That's amazing!" She smiled brightly at Lothiriel. "It's amazing how many of us are out there somewhere," she giggled. "Every time I turn around, I'm hearing about another one!"
"Another one what?" Pen asked, confused now.
Aliya laughed. "Why, another Aldrich, of course!"
Pen's eyes grew wide with shock, and he stared at Lothiriel, gaping. "What?!"

Feng chewed on her lower lip to not burst out laughing at the look on Pen's face. The poor man was obviously shocked, though she didn't see why. After all he knew that Lothiriel was like, and so royal bloodline or not it shouldn't matter.
Though she could kind of understand why he was shocked.
"I take it you didn't know," Ryu murmured, "Well of course not, that's not exactly something one would announce about."

"Decidedly not," Lothiriel frowned, her only reaction to smooth out her long white silk skirt. "But now that you know, Pen, I expect that nothing will change. I've only once been to the palace and am nothing more than what I am."
Pen just stared.
"Oh, for Valar's sake," Aliya laughed, reaching out to slap Pen on the shoulder, "stop it. She's a woman, not a jewel."

"I think he's in shock," Feng murmured.
It was so tempting to poke him to see if he was still there, but it would have been mean. Not that it had ever stopped Feng before... of course. She just liked where she was at the current moment.
"Well that and he might be thinking about the relatives he had just met," Ryu explained to Aliya, "Elrohir and Daeron a one way question and answer session with Pen yesterday."

Aliya winced. "Ouch, yes ... well I'm sure he must understand now why they were so pressing ... though when they find out that he didn't know, I'm sure he'll gain a few points in his favour."
"And he needs as much help as he can get," Lothiriel murmured, her expression worried now as she gazed back at Pen. "Pen ... Aeron ... are you going to be all right?"
Pen's eyes moved to Lothiriel's face, and his gaze was hard. "Anything else I should know?" he asked softly.

"Well it doesn't help that Elrohir is normally over protective..." Ryu mused, "If what Triton say is true..."
His gaze wandered over to Pen, it looked like it was more for the poor man to handle than he thought.

"He is," Lothiriel smiled. "But Aunt Haradhel has been good for him, he used to be much worse."
"So Mum tells me," Aliya laughed. "She used to tell stories about him, back when he first arrived. It was almost impossible to believe then, and it's just as impossible now."
"But to answer your question, Pen," Lothiriel murmured, looking back at her traveling companion, "yes, there are things you should probably know, but that's all you're getting for the moment."
At all the noise, Adonijah began to stir, rubbing at his hair with one closed fist. He yawned and turned over, nuzzling his cheek on Ryu's tail, then he stuck his thumb in his mouth and slept on.

"He must be really tired," Ryu commented, "But then again he was frightened most of the time before falling asleep...."
He looked up from his tail to Aliya, he could imagine which stories she was referring to. Though he only knew some of the Elrohir stories, not all of them.
"Yea, Lin can't imagine it, then again Ryu and I can't neither," Feng giggled.
