paddymew So... The castle in the background... Ideas? (crosses fingers for Merlin-crossover) Are you talking about the new BBC Merlin series? If so, Camelot in that is much bigger than that small castle. Also, are those futuristic-looking buildings part of the Doctor Who logo thing?

*Alters thread title* Cool! I used to watch Forever Knight all the time! xd Didn't like the last season so much, though. I hope LeCroix makes an appearance.

Page 2! Nick, Nat & Schanke on the scene of the crime, looking for suspects! And there's a mighty familiar blue box nearby! Sooo...how long will it take the Doctor (whichever it is) to get himself arrested? lol

Page 3--still no Doctor on the scene aside from that view of his TARDIS on the last page. Vampire stuff today as Janette gets pulled into the story.
Hey, have all of you dumped the comic because it isn't all Who now?

Hey, have all of you dumped the comic because it isn't all Who now? I've lost a bit of enthusiasm cos I've never heard of forever whatever so it's all a bit meaningless to me.

It's a TV series from the early to mid '90's. The main character is Nicholas, who was a knight in the Crusades. He was "brought over" to become a vampire by LeCroix (Lay-Quah), a vampire who dates back to the Roman era. He's a real jerk. Tries to educate Nick how vampires are so much better than Humans, etc. In the modern setting of the show, in Alberta, Canada, I believe, Nick has become a police detective. He doesn't like being a vampire any more and struggles to regain his humanity. Trying to help him is the Police Coroner, Natalie. There would be a romance there if Nick allowed it. He's scared he'll kill Nat if he gets romantic with her. Nick's partner is Schenke. He's pretty much the opposite of Nick, kind of like a stereotypical New Yorker in a lot of ways. What you see in the comic on page 2 is very accurate Schenke characterization. He has no clue his partner is a vampire, probably doesn't believe they're real. But they're friends and work together well.
(Nick works the night shift, not surprisingly, and drives a big old car Schenke teases him about--not because he's a car collector, but because it has a really big trunk he's modified so he can unlock from inside. It's an emergency hideaway if he gets caught out in the open when day breaks.)
There are other vampires around the city, most, I think, brought over by LeCroix, who is also there. Jeanette was brought over in the middle ages, and now she runs a club where vampires and some Humans hang out. This has just been introduced on page 3.
In every episode of the series, Nick has flashbacks to earlier periods of his long life that the current case may remind him of, so you generally get two stories interwoven throughout the episode.
***According to one of the commenters, all the episodes are available for free & legal on the Hulu site. This comic is set between seasons two & three, so I wouldn't go beyond that unless you really get into it.
In the first season Nick is still a pretty dark, vampiric character, fighting with LeCroix a lot. In season two he's much more Human in behavior most of the time, struggling openly to become Human again.
Another interesting little bit of backstory--LeCroix was brought over by his own daughter, who was still a child. He was a prominent Roman and allowed his daughter to do this in order to survive...when Vesuvius erupted. They were in Pompeii.

I'm still reading it. The opening few episodes of Forever Knight sound a lot like some of the Angel plot, especially with the bar. I'm sure Angel drew from it, as they both have vampires who struggle with their vampire/human selves, etc.
So it's still kinda interesting, and if I ever have time, I'll run over to Hulu to check out FK.
Also.. I was looking at the first panel and some of the commenters seem to think that the person walking away from the entrance is the Doctor (possibly Five)but I think if it is the Doctor, it's basically any incarnation other than One, Four, or Ten, due to the way the jacket looks.
This is pure speculation though. I don't think he would be walking *away* from the place if he was introduced this early.

I don't think we've seen the Doctor yet, everybody just wants to so badly they're seeing him in all the vaguely-drawn background characters.
Two series dealing with the same themes are bound to address a lot of the same problems and circumstances even without being influenced by each other.

My mind's overheating from exams, too. xp Well, that's true too, but I think Angel was partly influenced by FK, maybe I read it in an interview or something. Either way, it should be interesting. smile
