Well, I can understand their logic a bit. Monsters can come in many forms, they're just putting it in an atypical fashion. So, in a sense, it can be real, in it's own way.

Exactly, they are trying yo make it as real as they can in the context of the themes they are writing about.

Yes, but those authors are good for a different reason. Though the great will take the extraordinary and make it seem so plausible.

As long as the author can explain how it happens, anything's possible. ^^

That's the reason I hate Deus Ex Machinas, they are stupid and have no reason.

A deus ex machina (Latin IPA: [ˈdeːus eks ˈmaːkʰina] (literally "god from a machine")[1] is an improbable contrivance in a story characterized by a sudden unexpected solution to a seemingly intractable problem.

Not really, it's like when the whole story was just a dream or like when the hero is about to be defeated by the villain, an angel comes down and saves the day. Things like that. It annoys me.

I'm in agreement with Scoot. Anti-climatic is a good term, I think, for times like those.

But the correct term is Deus Ex Machina.
The only good movie with one is Donnie Darko.
