hilaroma I don't read much at all but my friend hooked me on this one. It's a really amazing Marauders era fic. Link: http://www.livejournal.com/community/shoebox_project/If you're a Remus/Sirius shipper at all you'll love it for sure, but it's also very well-written, funny, and well illustrated. And they portray Peter like a human being, something that you seldom see in marauder era fics. I really love it. *bookmarks for later* 3nodding whee

*also bookmark's Hila's recommendation* whee I like the Marauder-generation stuff. And definitely a bonus if they're decent with Peter. I get so annoyed with the "We don't like Peter, so we'll just leave him out entirely." business. I'm currently reading "Conspiracy of Silence," another Marauder era fic, though it's more focused on Snape and Lily. Featuring a genuinely, appropriately creepy young Snape. whee Streamjumper I would reccomend looking into that job back home. It might not be ideal, but will allow you to ease slightly out of school gear while taking your time looking for something else. While you're gaining experience and saving up money you can look into getting your license and a car (if I remember correctly, you don't have either) AND give you the chance to cherry pick another job. Not being under huge time/money constraints while looking for a sweet job would probably be worth quite a bit when weighed against the problems involved with that other job. Besides, its better to get your crappier positions out of the way right out of the gate. That's what I've been thinking. It's pretty strictly small animal, no indication of exotics, which is what I'd like to do in the long run... But some good solid small animal experience would be helpful either way. I need to get the basics down along with the simple practicalities of working as a veterinarian (learning how to deal with drug company reps, licensing issues, etc.). Any practice would be good for that. And the driving/car issue is another big motivator. It would add an extra difficulty in even interviewing at places farther from home. My parents would be able to help me with getting some driving practice in, and in getting myself situated in town. (I suspect even if I moved across the country, they'd do their best to take some time to help me move, but it would be dreadfully inconveniencing for them to do so, even if they can wing it.) Otherwise, the job doesn't really sound particularly bad. Just not ideal. ...That, and the fact that I really, really hate the city my parents live in. It's too big a city for my tastes, there's awful traffic, a lot of crime, and the people just aren't...friendly. sweatdrop As much as I'm not a huge fan of my current town, or all the stupid college kids, it's still a lot nicer than my parents' city. But I lived there for three years, and my parents and my sister's family have lived there for 10, so it's not impossible. And one or two more years in a place I don't like won't kill me before I move on to somewhere more suited to my tastes.

Edit: Or look like they came straight off Guilty Gears? Liquid Snake doesn't know how to stay dead, and he's been shown missing an awful lot of skin... Just not in this promo. Solid Snake shooting a dozen people just to get a decent seat is pretty win... as well as the "No place to hide" bit of the promo. Its not often that you get to see a painfully funny promo for a totally serious game franchise that still stays within the spirit of the franchise.

Fomite I know I need a job. sweatdrop I was really thinking I might tell my landlady that I would stick on for another month, since I can afford the rent, and take my time in finding a job. Ran into her today, and she asked me about showing my apartment on Friday. I'm going to have to be out of here by the end of the month, with or without a job. sweatdrop There's an opening (or at least there was one) in my parents' town, and I know my mother would really like me to take it. It doesn't sound ideal to me, as far as the job itself goes, but the situation would be good. And I could count on my parents to help me move my things out and stay with them for a few weeks until I could move elsewhere, if I got that job. But I really, really need to get to work finding something, and for all that I know that, I'm having a terrible time mustering up the motivation to really work on job-hunting. For all that I keep fussing and stressing about it, I still haven't written a cover letter, nor have I arranged my references for my resume. ...I've been reading too damned many HP fics. sweatdrop I want HBP. gonk My problem is that I've been one pampered poochy when it comes to jobs. I've had hmm... minimal job experience as my funding comes from...... other places. And none of those jobs I can put on a resume because I was paid under the table for my work. sweatdrop Well, I figure I should start out small (maybe a restaurant or shop), then when I've got some "real" experience under my belt go for bigger things or go back to college to get the degree I was aiming for in the first place. domokun

My only veterinary experience has come through jobs around the VTH. sweatdrop It's very..."ivory tower medicine," so to speak. Not very comparable to private practice when one is used to having specialists for every branch of medicine somewhere down the hall, and all of the most modern equipment ready and available. That in itself has its good points and its bad points. I think it's the lack of variety (three positions all for the same employer) that makes my poor resume look dreadfully sparse. sweatdrop

Peppermint Elf Fomite Drat my inability to edit... D: The .hack song "Obsession" is good, and the strings version is especially awsome. D: If anybody doesn't have it already, they should. I guess you can tell what I like.... I got Pachelbel Canon in D and Ode to Joy both from Evangelion. sweatdrop Edit: Get Open Your Mind from Ah! My Goddess TV! It's so good! whee I totally wish it was longer. Gah. With you all posting what you got, I guess I ought to post what I snagged last time I was there, all of which I recommend. Kokoro no Chizu - One Piece opening 5 Obsession - .hack//sign opening Onna no ko Otoko no Ko - School Rumble Closing Open your Mind - Ah My Goddess TV series opening Raspberry Heaven - Azumanga Daioh closing Scramble - School Rumble opening Soramimi Cake - Azumanga Daioh opening Ready - One Piece opening 2 In the past, I've found the Naruto openings and closing there. I like most of the openings, save the most recent two, and a few of the closings. They've also got a good store of Utena music, which I like. Then there's Excel Saga opening, a lot of Ranma songs, and others I can't remember at the moment, but can look up later. They've got a really good collection there.
