"Ooh, fun," Dari said. He started to peel off his own cupcake paper and his smile broadened. They had to be in love. You didn't miss people this much unless you were, not unless you had a crush and Dari certainly hadn't had a crush.
"How are you otherwise? Do you have any fun stories from this week?" He took his first bite of cupcake. Teenagers could be funny.

Cody unpeeled his cupcake and took a bite. He chewed, swallowed, and then said, "I've never had a better cupcake. Where did you get these?" he held the rest of the cupcake, looking instead to Dari.
"I was ten minutes late to class Friday, and my first period class decided to sit in the field. I had to go out and find them--wasn't hard, I could see them from the window. We ended up having the lesson outdoors, it was so nice."

"Sugar. It's a little bakery outside of town, the other way." He listened to Cody's story and continued to smile. Good, he was glad that the first fun thing he could think of was entirely positive.
"That sounds like fun! It's better they sit in the field than go hide in the cafeteria. You must be a good teacher. They must look forward to your classes."

Cody smiled brightly. "You think so?" he asked. "I always look forward to the class, but they pulled a training on me that morning and I hadn't allowed enough time for it." He took another bite of his cupcake.
"Did you have anything interesting happen? Are you teaching kids?"

Dari nodded. "I do think so."
He shook his head then and smirked. "You know I can't tell you. I am working with a teenager now, yes. I've worked with all ages. Lori, though, he's sort of the head nerd on cam-- ...pus." He chuckled and leaned forward, kissing some cool frosting from Cody's lip.
"You had a little..." He motioned to his own lip with a finger.

Was keeping secrets all the time hard? Cody didn't think he'd be able to do it, especially not from someone he loved. He smiled into the kiss, shaking his head after it broke.
He leaned over to kiss him again. "I love you."

Dari accepted the kiss and lingered with his eyes closed just a moment extra. "I love you too."
When the cupcakes were done, Dari disposed of the wrappers and container and licked the icing from a finger, then wiped it on his pants.
"Okay, these papers. Egyptian gods. What was the assignment?" He was clearly moving into work mode, already eyeing the papers on the table.

"They presented a poster and explained about their pick of Egyptian gods. It was a fun assignment, I guess, up till the research papers and an essay about why they chose whatever god they chose. I hated assigning it." He hated end all be all grade assignments. He hated grading in general. "Personally, I think if a kid's doing the best they can and putting effort into what they're learning, they all deserve A's. School board would have a field day though." He sat on one of the chairs at the table and slumped.

"Ah! So it's not entirely objective." Good. He wasn't sure he knew enough about the whole gamut of gods to grade based on information. Dari stole a pen and held his hands over the stacks.
"What's undone?"
It seemed that he and Cody had similar grading tactics. Good! The students probably wouldn't even be able to tell.

Cody picked up a stack, offered it to Dari, then took one for himself. He took a red pen and started to look through the top one in his stack. "I'm looking forward to spring break, then I'll have more time to spend with you."

"Do we care about grammar? Things like that?" Dari asked, beginning to look through the first paper.

"You can correct it, but I'm not marking them down for it. Mostly I write things on what I liked about their essay, or suggest they could do better with something." He wanted his students to feel good about themselves. To know he believed in them. "Plagerism gets them an automatic fail. Usually Its easy to tell, the writing style changes."

"Aah, yes," Dari said with a smile. He took a paper that was already corrected and looked over Cody's handwriting. He didn't want it to be too different just in case there was a clause against people helping you grade. He put the end of his pen between his teeth and then began. "How many students do you have?"

"I have five classes," Cody mused. A free period (lunch) and a prepare for tomorrow period. "Twenty eight first period. I think the average is twenty five, though? Roughly a hundred? But these are just the freshmen." He patted his stack. Seniors we're doing something else entirely.
"Dari, if you're not busy the weekend of spring break I'd like to take you camping. It's the first week of April."

"I don't know, I'd have to see what the boss says. I can try to get some time off, though." He smiled up at Cody. How sweet of him. It would almost be like a birthday present! Hopefully he could get at least a couple of days off in a row. It'd be real alone-time, not only to be with Cody alone but to be away from the rest of his life as well.
"We'll make a good dent if nothing else. My poor love. Students hate papers. They don't understand that teachers do too."
