That was probably another thing they should really work on, the sooner that Andarien could read, the sooner he could gain access to books when books were to be found. Lin was pretty sure that would interest Andarien.

"Well... let me talk to Iorlas first and then tell you want it entails."

Since she wanted to double check with Iorlas to see if it was alright.

Andarien blinked at Lin. Even though she was speaking in Common Elvish, he still didn't understand what she meant.

"Huh?" he asked unceremoniously. "What's that mean?"

It seemed there were even a few nuances of the one language he did know that still escaped him.

"I'll tell you how Iorlas is going to help you after I confirm that it is still okay with her to help you," Lin replied.

She wanted to make doubly sure since this (to her) was no small thing.

Andarien nodded. He could accept that - though he was curious about what it would mean. He rubbed the side of his face where he'd been snuggling against Lin. It was itchy now, and he found that the more he rubbed it, the worse it seemed to get.

"You have scratchy clothes, Nana," he murmured, shuffling off her lap.

"Let me look at your cheek," Lin replied leaning over, "River, Ivy and Amairahc were stuck in a glass dome earlier and I had to use my shirt to lift it be cause the edges were jagged so it might be some glass bits there."

She hoped that Andarien hadn't accidentally hurt himself on her.

Andarien's cheek was pink with irritation, but there were no cuts and no blood.

"It's itchy," he murmured, closing his eyes as Lin examined him. He was tired from his outburst, as well as the fear of the sandstorm. But then something suddenly occurred to him, and he opened his eyes slightly and looked over at Lin. "But if there's glass in your shirt, isn't it itchy for you?"

"It's mainly on the outside of the shirt, I made sure of that when I folded it to use it, but I do need to change out of it."

It wasn't exactly pleasant wearing it, but she wasn't going to prance around in her bra, there were limits after all. There was no way she could bring herself to wear what Haldia wore on Nauros that was for certain.

Andarien nodded and yawned. "Then maybe you better go change it," he mumbled, slipping off her lap and taking a handful of Miyuki's clothes instead. "I'll stay with Mi."

Just then Earendil returned from the kitchen, and he smiled anxiously when he saw Lin. "Everything all right out there?" he asked her softly. "No one hurt?"

"No one was hurt, Amalirahc, Ivy and River were out in the orchard when it hit, but River's gift kept them safe... well... during the storm anyways. I'll explain in the a moment but I really need to change my shirt," Lin looked up at him sheepishly.

She got up from the ground as she explained.

"I have glass bits in my shirt."

Earendil's expression became concerned, but he didn't press her for details.

"You'd best do that," he agreed, switching to Common Elvish since she was speaking it. "I can wait until you come back to get the story."

He motioned to Miyuki and Andarien to come sit on the couch with him while they waited.

Lin nodded, and then paused when she realized they had been camping outside and their stuff was probably still outside when the storm hit.

"Oh bugger... I'm going to have to look for the bag first," Lin murmured before heading back out the door.

It took a while, but eventually the travelers' bags were found (most of them buried in the sand) - but their tents, unfortunately, were lost forever, with little more than scraps of canvas to be found. Thankfully, the horses and wagons were safely in barns and stables, so they were undamaged.

From that point, the days weren't filled with lazing about and relaxing, but rather filled with busyness and hard work as the plantation was cleaned and repairs were made. For a while, water was scarce due to the buildup of sand in the river, but eventually even that washed away and things returned to normal.

During this time, when repairs weren't being done or things weren't being cleaned up. Lin had pulled Earendil aside to talk to him about Andarien and Iorlas' offer. Despite the intital feeling of not wanting to, it was becoming clear that not only was Andarien not getting anywhere (he could barely say hi much less understand what others were saying) but it was isolating him.

And which at the heart of the matter was, was that it was not the birth language of either him, or Lin, which meant for their families if now was bad it was only going to get worse. Nevermind when they started to sail again.

Which was why she was now talking with Iorlas, about Andarien, and that offer she had once made.

The two women were walking the vineyard as they spoke, but Iorlas was watching Lin thoughtfully rather than looking at the vines or grapes. At length, she spoke.

"I know that this must really be pressing on you," she said softly, her green eyes fixed on Lin. "The last time we spoke of this, you were reluctant even to consider it. But I have seen how Andarien struggles, though he hides it well when he tries. For my part, the offer still stands, though it may not be quite as simple as it may sound."

She clasped her hands behind her back as they wandered. "We would have to speak to Lancaeriel to know for certain how it will work. I mean, I know it will work, it's just a matter of ..."

She trailed off, clearly hesitant to continue.

"Which was somewhat of why I was reluctant," Lin admitted, "Something like that wouldn't be as easy as it sounds and it's hard to imagine what it entails."

And really, in hindsight if Andarien hadn't gotten it by now, he wouldn't. Kids like him learned fast, he learned a lot about technology very quickly after all.

"But... can't ignore it, not when we're getting closer to see Earendil's main family and in the end mine... nevermind when we go sailing..."

She sighed thinking about this, it was especially important once they left the Four Lands that Andarien could communicate with other people.

"But let's talk to Lancaeriel first before I talk to Andarien again about it."
