Frankly, because it's about the only weapon which won't break on you, unlike said modified katana.

I don't tend to stick with a single weapon if thats what you mean.
I only said modified because its not a normal sized katana, and its slightly thinner. But its elven so that rules it out. Katana.

It also means the guillitine effect is destroyed, something which the weight of the katana's blade is neccessary for. Can't chop through someone cleanly with a lighter blade.

And its meant to wear away at the enemy, because of the less mass, it allows for faster guards and faster strikes. Its been my recent fancy with elven swashbucklers.

Its been my recent fancy with elven swashbucklers. too bad it doesn't work that way in real life. Only in some fantasy world would something like that actually work. The katana was not ever designed for long battles with many blocks and strikes. Its design was strictly to cut through the defense in as few strokes as possible. Otherwise, you'd just use a dao from china. with a dual edge and non arched back, it's capable of reversing itself without a complete commital, something which you won't find on a two-hander like the katana.

I'm sure I could find an interesting Mando blade or twentyseven... Oh good lord... A... less than adequate SW RP... its actually sort of amusing. SHould we join just for fun? More than half Three of them are playing Mandalorians. Two of which are... Force... Using... Mandalorians... Hmm... some of them aren't bad profiles. I think I might join. The only downside is they are probably b*****d spellers that god-mode up the wazzoo!
