Cody was laughing and splashing, which meant he got spurts of water in his mouth. He dove underwater, turned around and began to kick furiously, effectively splashing those nearby.
"Boys will be boys," Maia said, and grinned at Toby. "Looks like Lori's winning."

"HEY, HEY NOW!" Lori shouted, still grinning. He grabbed Cody's ankles and might have pulled him out of the water entirely if that didn't risk him bumping his head on the rocks on the way out. Instead he just let the man have to tread water while Dari dissolved into laughter.
"This is quite the first impression, you imperious cheater!" Lori said, releasing one of Cody's legs to shake an admonishing finger.

Cody laughed and tried to squirm out of Lori's hold. "I warned Dari I was a ninja splasher," he said.
Luca was grinning. He shook his head and wandered over to Dari. "Want to play a game?" he asked. "Do you know any good ones?"

Dari shook his head no. He'd never been out here with a group.
"Didn't you bring a ball?" he asked. They could pass it around, try to not let it hit the water, kids-stuff. "Otherwise I only know chicken, and I've never played."
"Nah, no chicken. Too cold," Lori said. Plus his boyfriend wouldn't be able to lift him, and if they lost...

That was right. "I'll go get get it," Luca started to make his way towards shore. Once there, He went to their spot and took out the ball. He started to blow it up.
"I know a couple games," Cody offered. "Kid games, mostly. My cousins and I would play."

Lori watched Luca go and then turned back to Cody.
"Well, that's better than nothing," he said. He had been an only child and most of his family was estranged, so he knew mostly adult games like water polo and water volleyball, so on and so forth.
Dari wrapped his arms around Cody and just stood there with him.
"So how are things anyway?" Lori asked Cody. "It's nice to be able to put a face to the name."

Luca tossed the ball towards the group, still missing the mark. He trudged over to it and tossed it closer.
"Marco polo and stuff. But it's probably dangerous out here." There weren't any life guards, after all. Cody smiled when Dari put his arms around him. "Hm?" He seemed a bit surprised by the question. Oh. Right. Relationship talk. "We're great," he said, giving Lori a smile. Better than great, really. Dari was perfect and he'd been lucky to meet him in the park.

Lori turned when he heard the ball land the first time, but only waited for it to come closer the second time before he picked it up.
"Nah, we should be fine. We could make the lovebirds play referee," Lori said, nodding off toward Toby and Maia. They'd make sure nobody drowned. "It's not like we're in kelpie territory or anything." Hah, see what he did there?
"Good. I'm glad to hear it," he continued. Dari kissed Cody on the cheek, and Lori just smiled and shook his head. In a moment he had tossed the ball up and batted it toward the other couple like a light volleyball serve.

Kelpie territory? "Are you from Ireland, then?" he asked, curiously. Lori did seem to have a bit of an accent. So did his fiancee, but Cody couldn't place it.
He reached for the ball as it was served to them and sent it back. "Have you played volleyball?" he asked Dari.

"You can't tell?" Lori asked with a laugh. He bopped the ball back, this time toward Dari, "I am. Born and raised!"
Dari reached up and bopped the ball toward Luca. "I'm not very good at it." No, he had never played proper volleyball.

"I've seen pictures, what's it like?" Cody had never been out of the US. It intrigued him to meet someone who'd lived In another country.
Luca hit the ball towards Cody, who missed and had to go after it. "Me either," he said, looking to Dari after retrieving the ball.

"Like the pictures say," Lori said, "Green, hilly, always wet... the cities are just like any city, but the people are less... everything awful."
Dari smiled at Cody. "You don't say," he said with a chuckle.

"I've always wanted to travel," Cody said, and smiled at Lori. "Dari says with your guy's jobs you travel a lot."
"Not me," Luca said, shaking his head. "I work at the library in the next town over." He looked to Lori and smiled. "That's where we met."

"I'm sure you can talk Dari into taking you somewhere," Lori said, then made eye contact with the alien and gave hi a wink and a smile.
"Yeah, definitely," Dari agreed.
Lori wrapped an arm around Luca and kissed his hair. "It is! I'm the Head Nerd at work, so."

"He told me he'd like to visit Oregon as a tourist," Cody mused. Somewhere he could go without going under cover.
He handed the ball to Dari. "Should we invite your brother to play, too?"
Luca smiled. "Love, you're perfect."
