((Wayne's just nicknaming his pokémon. Feel free to skip dramallama ))

"Okay, okay, I got one."

Wayne sat crosslegged on his bed with the pokémon center laptop out in front of him. He was searching the internet for viable nicknames, his pokémon were scattered about the room but looked in his general direction. The sunshine was coming in pretty strongly now. It was going to be a good day.

He turned to Lilligant, who shrank. The last 25 names had been terrible.

"'Lily'. It's like your old name but like, elegant and stuff. And elegance is implied by the 'igant' bit of your current name! Yeah? Yeah?" Lilligant shook her head."Okay, it kinda sucks, nevermind."

The grass type let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh, what about this one?" he pointed to Hitmonlee but kept reading the page, "Ronin. According to Poképedia, it was the name given to, and I quote: 'badass samurai warriors who didn't have a master but kicked a** anyway'. I'm pretty sure Poképedia knows what it's talking about."

[Does this mean I get to go free?]

"Then again, you do have a master..." Wayne gave a goofy grin, "Me! I'm your master! Or maybe I should keep calling you Hitmonlee cause I didn't catch you... but that's dumb. Why would I do that? ...Ronin."

Hitmonlee grumbled, slapping his hand against his considerable forehead. Hopping in the way, Duosion blasted Wayne's head with some psychic power, and suddenly his voices started echoing.

[He's fine with it! What about me! Give me a nickname!!]
[Me too!]

"Geez, Schizomaniacal, I already gave you a nickn-aaaah!"
[Lalalalalala! Not listening! Lalalala--] the psychic sang as he whipped Wayne's skull with energy, speeding around in circles. Hitmonlee's eye twitched in annoyance.
"Okay, okay! I'll change it. Ow." Wayne clicked through some pages. He just knew he'd seen something before... "What about... Eukarya. It's what they call cells with stuff inside them, I think.

"Plus it's like 'eureka!' which is what old scientists say all the time! And they have brain power, like psychics. And you're pretty much a brain... with power!"

[I like it! I like it!]
[I like it! I like it!]

Speeding around excitedly, the psychic was stopped in his tracks with a choked gargle. The psychic link broke and Hitmonlee pulled his foot out of the Duosion's head, looking satisfied. That stopped him.

[He likes it.] said the fight type.

"Thanks, Ronin," Wayne said with a smirk, and the pokémon gruffly turned away, arms folded and eyes closed. "Last but not least... 'Orchid'."

Lilligant shook her head, looking drained. Wayne sucked his cheek.

"Still kinda crappy, I guess. What... about..." he clicked away and scrolled around, typed a bit and clicked some more. "I like Daphne. I think it suits. Plus there's this myth about a woman who got turned into a tree, and you're a sort of plant person. She was called Daphne."

The grass type looked defeated. She just hung her head and nodded, and Wayne punched the air. "Alright, you gave in! Now lemme just register this--" he went to log into his Pokémon League trainer account.

"User name: Wayne Lee," taptaptap, "Password: tessisawes-- aw man, I'm gonna have to change that... uh, change password. Norbert...sucks... heheheh."

After logging on, Wayne brought up his team page. All the pokémon he'd caught were registered with brightly coloured pages showing their stats. It'd be stuff like where they were captured, their species name as well as a list of known moves. Wayne was even able to add little notes for each pokémon, and trainers checking his profile could see what he'd written.

There were also boxes that flagged whether Wayne was willing to trade a pokémon, but whether or not he had those ticked, other trainers could put in trade requests.

At the moment, Wayne only had three pokémon registered. His old team were gone from the system, and that gave him a moment's pause. He had to get them back. And hopefully, they'd forgive him for liberating them in the first place. After navigating the system, Wayne updated his pokémon's nicknames. Now the screens read:

Daphne Eukarya Ronin
Lilligant Duosion Hitmonlee

Roughly 45 minutes later, the Sun was up and shone brightly. both Tk's sat back to back, the sun glistened off the sweat that covered the youthful faces, they looked tired as hell. It took a lot to sustain the duplication. Even more so when the clone is partaking in physical stimulation. "So..did it work?" the Tk clone asked, breathing heavily.

"Dunno, lets find out." the Real Tk said, already sealing up the mental zipper, the clone disappeared in a poof of smoke, same as he did at Henrietta's and at the Gym. Right after the clone disappeared he knew it worked. It was like he'd been out training twice as long. To test it, he went through the steps again, and again, until he was satisfied that the training was a success.

"Right," Tk said, standing. he was pumped. "Training complete." he grabbed a swig from his water bottle, clicked his heels, releasing the wheels in his shoes, and he was off towards the center to fetch his team, and grab some grub. on the way to the center he could run into anyone else, oening the door for conversation.

The door to conversation literally opened as Salieri exited the pokemon center, trailed by her entire pokemon team. While they were looking lively, Salieri still had bags under her eyes from late night training, and a flat, tired look on her face. Better than before. Still not good.

I wonder if I can make changes in my body chemistry, Salieri pondered as she made her way to the Battle Institute. Playing with my sleep cycles would be real useful right now. I've got a bunch of ideas, but I should probably look some of this stuff up. Oh, but there's no library in Nimbasa City. Pssh. Don't these kids like books anymore-

She rounded a corner just as TK was about to do the same. Her eyes widened for just a moment. The silver haired preteen still had room to make a quick stop before he bowled her over. And if he didn't, Sal would just move to the side. Hopefully he wouldn't crash into the videophone booth behind her.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:17 pm

Tk was still pumped from his successful training session, and his body was still in 'Capoeira mode'. that being the case, as soon as Sal rounded the corner there was only a good 15 ft worth of pavement between the two. with out thinking, completely relying on instinct, Tk acted. using the forward momentum he'd gathered from rollerblading, not having enough strength in his arms to do the maneuver with out, he lurched downward towards the ground, palms out stretched. using his arms as a spring board he vaulted straight over Sal, he spun his body around so that he'd land feet first.

After landing his left knee buckled, "Whoa.." he said standing, as if he was just as surprised as Sal would most likely be. "Th-that was so COOL!" Roared the preteen, "did you see that!? i totally just vaulted over you all Ninja like. I mean i didn't mean too, it just Sorta happened!?" the youth went on and on. to Sal who seemed to be low on patience, what with being up all night training and still rather tired looking, the rambling teen was probably incredibly annoying.

Henrietta stood in front of her mirror, inspecting her chest. The stitches had healed at a rate faster than one might call normal. Not super human healing, but faster than normal. It wasn't complete, and they would clearly scar, but it was different.

"Hum." Henrietta traced them, as if she were dreaming it. The light had done more than she thought before. When it came Socant evolved, when she fought her aura protected her, but it was different.

Not physically, but at the same time physically. Her body felt different.

She'd left her Pokemon downstairs to eat, and she herself had already had cereal and orange juice. Already showered, she dressed herself in shorts and a t-shirt, easy enough to move in.

Shoes and socks on, she met her team in the kitchen.

"Everyone," she addressed and they looked over. "Let's go to the park."

***

Wayne had said to learn hidden power. She could deduce from the name of the move what that meant but she had no idea really where to start. So instead, she decided to let her Pokemon play while she came up with a method.

Socant had taken over the jungle gym with webbing, Darumi played tag with Frate and Bastion and Melty sat in her lap on a bench under a tree while she thought.

"Do you think they're having fun?" she asked after an extended silence. Melty said nothing. "It's nice. I wish you could join them."

Not my thing...

"I hope we can spend more time like this in the future. Not training, just enjoying ourselves. You guys deserve that." She had a little smile on her face when Melty looked up at her.

"Hey, Tobbman's not girlfriend," boomed a voice from behind and Henrietta squeaked in surprise as she turned her head to look at him.

"H-hey," she said. She'd met him very briefly in Canalave and very briefly last night. A tall man, intimidating with just his height alone.

"Nice day out, eh?" He took up the rest of the bench as he sat beside her.

"Y-yeah." Henrietta looked back at her Pokemon.

"But yer not out there with 'em. What's on yer mind?" Goldberg had an odd air to him, Henrietta thought, like he was a big helpful guy, one of those fun loving types. Why did it seem like she'd met so many of them recently?

"N-no."

"Why not?"

"I'm..." Could she really trust him? He'd helped her, he knew Robby. No, rather, even if he was an enemy, it didn't mean things couldn't be manipulated to her advantage. If she was going to take on Reid she'd have to learn at least how to turn a situation to her advantage regardless of circumstance. "I want to figure out how to teach them Hidden Power."

Goldberg laughed. "That one's easy. Want some help?"

Henrietta blinked. "S-sure."

***

In five minutes Henrietta and her team were lined up before Goldberg, sat down in whatever meditative stance they could manage given the shape and form of their bodies.

"Alright, here's a trick I picked up a long time ago." He reached into his pocket and produced a red and white... bullet? Henrietta watched as he tapped a location on it and it opened, revealing a Golem.

"Golem, let's help these guys learn Hidden Power, eh?" Golem looked at him.

And then struck him in the head with a rock. [Sure.]

Goldberg was laid out but laughing. Henrietta asked, "are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Golem's just peeved at me." Goldberg sat up. "Alright, you know the drill."

Golem plopped down and closed his eyes. Before him a sphere began to form and he held it. Goldberg sat down as well, closing his eyes.

And after a minute he opened them. "Try and reach inside yourselves, you want to find your inner energies and pull them out. Kind of weird bit, but try and clear yer head while yer at it." Something like that.

This went on for a time, with Goldberg sitting in front of each Pokemon and even Henrietta herself, helping them, guiding them in an oddly specific way.

"You have an ability too," Henrietta said the second time he sat in front of her. Her own training was minor, she could feel the aura but she didn't draw it out. It was breathing, technique. Essentially, it would help her pull everything out faster.

"Me? Nah, I just know a guy who does this trainin' stuff fer a livin', ain't really my style." Goldberg grinned and Henrietta closed her eyes, settling back into her meditation.

And an hour later there it was. With the careful guiding that was almost as if Goldberg knew exactly what path they needed to take, what they were missing and what thye needed to fix, all the end results were there - except for Melty.

"I think he's busted," Goldberg said as he looked at Melty who narrowed his eye at Goldberg.

"He's hurt," Henrietta said and Goldberg shrugged.

"He's chaos right now, yer gonna have to fix him up before he can learn it." Goldberg looked down the line. Darumi was grass, Socant was water, Frate was steel and Bastion was fire. "But everythin' else is good for the moment. Alright miss, I should head out. I got some errands to run."

He nodded to Henrietta who thanked him and waved partially as he left.

"Alright," Henrietta said with a sigh. "It's still early, and I think we made good progress. You guys should play a bit more."

Salieri sighed deeply and resisted the urge to facepalm. Ninjas? He's too loud to be a ninja. She turned around and then circled behind him, poking the back of his left knee with her foot.

"Sloppy landing," she grumbled, sounding more fed up than she should be. "Needs firm footing, or else you'll break something. Don't use the ground as a vault for a high front handspring. Too low, you might crash into what you're trying to jump over. My shoulders would have worked fine."

It wasn't a bad flip. It's just that Salieri knew better. But obviously Takamaru wasn't used to acrobatics, based on his own surprise. For a beginner, that was actually pretty good. She shrugged, then yawned "Seven out of ten. Slow down around corners."

Castelia City

"Is he okay?"

Seohyun looked at Chuck who nodded at the ticketmaster. "Yeah," she said.

"Well, cause he looks like he's in a lot of pain."

"Recent surgery," Chuck said, forcing himself up to his feet.

"Right, two tickets to Hoenn. You two have a nice day."

Seohyun took the tickets and helped Chuck onto the ship.

Tk stood still as Sal circled around him, "Uh-o-okay, Thanks?" the youth said, scratching the back of his head, not sure exactly why Sal was so, for lack of a better word, grumpy. "are you that tired from our game yesterday?" the preteen asked.

"I thought martial artists were supposed to be Full of energy, inner peace and junk." he continued on. Saria flew down from her perch atop the center, landing next to her trainer. Her claws clinking on the ground, she craned he head down and put it next to Tk's who unconsciously reached up to rub the side of her beak affectionately.

((Finally saw Amazing Spiderman. It was spectacular, ultimate even. Also amazing. Can we start making guesses about wahmbulance the dude in the credits scene? It's vague but I wanna say he's Mysterio. Illusions are how he snuck in and out of the prison cell. Why he's working for Osborn I haven't the slightest idea, but whatever. wahmbulance That movie was cool.))

Salieri was a little more phased by a large metal bird landing next to TK than she was about his flip. She recalled how yesterday he said he had a fondness for steel types, so a Skarmory wasn't much of a shocker. "Barely slept, got to bed late. I was working on my Aura."

For the first time this day, she smirked and held up an index finger. Blue sparks of electricity emerged from her skin and danced around her finger, making a low buzzing noise. The Battle Girl winced: she was still getting the hang of this application of Nianzhu. At least she was past having another self induced seizure. That'd just be embarrassing.

"You know how humans have natural electric charges running through our body? I'm channeling it, controlling it. Needs some work though, it's more maintenance than making my skin into armor." Still smirking, she turned off the juice and her finger went back to normal. There was no need to expend more Aura past a short demonstration. She stretched her arms over her head, and yawned again.

"I know, I know, pretty cool. So? Where were you headed just now?"

((Finally! It was pretty damn sweet. My theory:

wahmbulance
I think it was Morbius. I bought the Amazing Spider-Man game and it has a character profile on him, even though he apparently didn't make an appearance in the film. Here's what it says:

[1]
[2]
[3]
[4]

Not finished the game, but I'm betting that Morbius will still be hanging around by the end of it. If not, I guess I'll throw in an update for y'all.

But there he is, interested in the same kind of research as Connors, even continuing it to create animal-human cross species in the game. The problem faced with Oscorp researchers was that their formula was incomplete, and Richard Parker was the only one with the knowledge to finish it. Connors used a rushed version of the formula, which led to his sporadic transformations, yet Morbius should have access to the real deal.

What makes me think that?

When Spider-Man was shot on his way to Oscorp, he wound up staggering on a rooftop. When he vaulted over a wall, he left a perfect, bloody handprint that got about 2 seconds worth of close-up time. He was bitten by one of the spiders that his father created, which was a spectacular success, according to Connors. His blood is a template for cross species genetics.

I noticed that this film borrowed a few plot elements from the 1990s Spider-Man cartoon, specifically that Peter Parker was partly responsible for the creation of the Lizard. In the cartoon, he helped Connors with his neogenic experiments, while in the film he provided the formula that Connors needed. It should be noted that in the comics, Connors was already the Lizard by the time of his introduction, and in fact lived in Florida.

The depiction of the Venom symbiote bringing out the negative aspects of its host's personality while attempting to take over also comes from that same cartoon. It's been copied in every Spider-Man media showcasing Venom ever since.

So with this precedent set, it's not unreasonable to assume that Morbius has a similar origin story to his cartoon counterpart. In the cartoon, Morbius stole a sample of Peter Parker's blood from his locker at ESU, thinking that it was part of Parker's science project. He could tell that it had been altered, but couldn't determine how, and an accident involving the neogenic recombinator, a vampire bat, and his hand transformed him into the living vampire.

It's possible that the bloody handprint will be returned to in the next film. Morbius, realising Spider-Man's true nature and discovering the blood (after all, the fact that Spider-Man was injured was made very public on television) uses it in his experiments. And given his position as being a biochemist in a similar field of work to Richard Parker and Curt Connors, he could well be in a position to know the truth about Parker, which is what he confronts Connors about in the post-credits. Morbius would use Peter Parker's blood as a template for his own experiments, and get a more permanent transformation than the Lizard.

There's also the issue of resemblances. Here's what Morbius looks like according to the game:

[1]
[2]

And here's a link to the post credits scene:

[1]

Close enough!

Let's not forget that the films are supposed to be a trilogy. They're probably going to keep up certain themes, so I think they'll be using cross species genetics as the origin for the next set of villains. Or at least the same technology.

Plot Predictions:
ASM2 - Morbius is the main villain. Introduces Norman Osborn. Possibly introduces Mary Jane and Harry to add conflict with the Peter/Gwen relationship.
ASM3 - Green Goblin is the main villain. Gwen Stacy dies before Act 3.

In Ultimate Spider-Man (the comics. I've stopped watching that bad, bad cartoon) Osborn combines his genetics with a dosed up version of his own DNA to become the Goblin. It's all very similar to cross species genetics, so it's probably going to be the same situation. And the Ultimate Green Goblin would be a lot cooler looking than either the Ditko Green Goblin or the Raimi Green Goblin.
wahmbulance

But yeah. The new set of films are very promising. I liked how they fixed Gwen, but still referenced her depiction in the comics by having her lie about being emotional (comics Gwen had faulty tear ducts and cried over everything). Plus she didn't scream, which immediately makes her a better realised character than Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane. It could've used some more street-level Spider-Man fighting, but that's my only real complaint.))

((Hmmm, that theory holds a lot more water than mine.

Looking at the stinger again, there was a single shot of the mystery dude holding his arm, possibly scratching at it. Mysterio's normal underneath that fishbowl, but that could have been a hint that the mystery guy has some sort of problem underneath that jacket.

I've also been told the game is supposed to be canon. We'll find out for sure when the second movie rolls around, but if it is then there's a good chance you're right. They probably will keep with the cross-genetics aspect of the first movie.

Morbius also fits in with the theme of the first movie, which was that everybody has something missing. For him, it's his blood cells. If they continue that theme, which could very well happen since secrets about Peter's parents have yet to be revealed, Morbius would be a perfect match.

In an interview with Rhys Ifans, he said the mystery person was employed by Oscorp and was definitely not Norman Osborn. It looks like Norman's dying or something in this version, which makes me think he'll probably end up like his Ultimate counterpart when he attempts to fix himself. Which is fine with me, that's my favorite version of the Green Goblin.

Webb seems to like sympathetic characters (even that Indian guy was sympathetic to a tiny degree since he was trying to save Norman's life. Then again, it could have been just to keep his job so meh). Morbius is way more sympathetic than Mysterio, and would work better for action sequences.

Still not sure how he snuck in and out of the cell though. Vampires can do stuff like that. Mysterio's power set lends to that sort of thing better, but I hope you're right about the villain. Mysterio's pretty good, but I don't think fight scenes with his illusion ability would be good for a movie.

Some people are guessing it's Electro because of the lightning flash. Not convincing, mainly since stealth and quiet isn't Electro's thing. But if it is Mysterio, they could end up going on a route similar to Spidey 3 with multiple villains, having someone like Electro be the fighter while Mysterio works behind the scenes. Just a thought, and I don't know how I would feel about that after seeing so many villains balanced so poorly in Spidey 3.

How is that game, by the way? I've been waiting for another good sandbox Spidey since Web of Shadows, and I heard the combat is basically out of Arkham City which is a plus.
wahmbulance

But yeah. That cartoon is terrible. Good animation cannot make up for how bad it is. Which is a shame, since Drake Bell doesn't make a bad Peter Parker. He got more of a chance to show that off in the new Avengers cartoon.

I'd say they should have stuck closer to the Ultimate Comics for the cartoon. But there's no way Disney would let most of that slip through the radar. I sure wish Spectacular Spiderman would swing back into existence.))

"Im heading back to the center to pick up my team and grab some breakfast. i went to train early this morning" the preteen said plainly. "My uh, my Aura! was gone, or empty...depleted?" the youth stamered not sure on anything pertaining to Aura. "Either way i couldn't perform my Ability last night so just slept" i really should give it a name..

"So whats the blue electricity thing do? Is it some sort of attack?" the youth asked, hands in his pockets.

They're probably going to expand on the villains during the trilogy, but hopefully avoid overdosing like they did in Spider-Man 3. The problem with that film (well, one of the problems) is that the villains were crammed into the plot, instead of sewn in. You know, weaved in naturally. They were just there being loud.

What I mean is like, how they had Doc Connors show up in Spider-Man 2 and 3, except he wasn't the Lizard at that point. They could still use Spider-Man villains without putting them into a supervillain role.

But yeah, Morbius has vampire powers. Going to assume he uses his superhuman reflexes to know just when the lightning was flashing, and his superhuman speed to bust out of there. Or something, I dunno. It might have just been over the top theatricality.

Hell, he could be Batman. And that's sort of what I've been saying razz Plus it'd be cool if there was a Batman/Spider-Man crossover. I read the first one of those comics and it was pretty good. The second one, not so much.

I don't think it'll be Electro. He's just not very interesting. He's more of a classic villain in the sense that he's very traditional; he's not got a dramatic backstory from the get-go, he just shows up to rob a bank and scrap with the hero. Not like the Lizard, or Morbius or even the Hulk, who've also got conflicts tied directly into their power set. Electro was just some guy who got struck by lightning. No special circumstances or motivations. Just that.

I do like Electro though. Thor sent him into space and it was funny.

I agree that Mysterio might be too much for cinema. Although theatricality obviously works very well on the screen, Mysterio tends to get every one of his tricks explained, and you'd have to be very clever to do that on film since it'd be very longwinded. He could be used, since Mysterio initially presenting himself as a superhero was a pretty good story, but I don't think he was the guy in the cell.

Sympathetic characters work better in general. There's the occasional instance where you don't need to explain a character's motivation, but only when you're making a complete monster character. That was the biggest reason I couldn't get into the Captain America film. There was absolutely no reason to root for Steve Rogers, aside from him being the designated hero. He just came across as a pushy little s**t until he got his powers. Maybe you have to be a hardcore patriot to understand a hardcore patriot, who doesn't have a motivation for being a hardcore patriot.

C'mon, a flashback to a soldier helping him out as a child. Anything! I really don't like being unable to enjoy a superhero film, damn it.

Spider-Man game semi-review
And the game is okay. Don't get your hopes up about the combat being like Arkham's because it's not. It' a similar set up, with the camera and mashing square to attack and hitting triangle to dodge (or whatever the 360 controls are), but it's all superficial. The thing about the Arkham fighting engine was that it was easy to pick up and difficult to master. Like any good fighting game. There were timings that you had to get down and if you failed, then it'd ruin your combo for the entire fight.

In the Spider-Man game, you can keep your combo going even though you're hitting the dodge button when nobody's attacking, something that'd reset your combo meter in Arkham. I think you can even start running around and it won't reset your combo, which doesn't even make any sense. The only thing that breaks your combo chain is getting hit (I got the trophy for a 42 combo chain in one of my first fights)

So it clearly apes the Arkham set up, but is nowhere near as polished. It's not a bad system, but it can get a bit boring to be honest. There's also some Arkham-style room clearing, where you basically crawl around on the ceiling and web people up, then swing away when you get shot at. It's really easy, and just sort of there to be done.

I haven't played Web of Shadows, but I did get Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. Compared to Spider-Man 2, the webslinging is very unsatisfying. It's alright when you get into it, but you swing faster the closer to the ground you are, and there's only one animation for that swing (so he always does the same pose, which really sucks). There's a degree of timing to your swings, but Spider-Man's webs don't attach to buildings, so it feels a bit off. It's not to the degree that the Spider-Man 1 movie tie in game had it, and you can ignore it until you get really high up. Having the system like this does make the giant mecha boss fights more playable though.

But the big disappointment about the swinging is that there's no tension button. In Spider-Man 2, you could modify your swing by hitting L2, and Spider-Man would put more tension on his web. Depending on the timing for the rest of your swing, you could either make him go higher or, if you get the swinging down just right, zip across the city at blistering speeds. It felt really awesome, and it's a shame that this game misses out on it.

In return, it makes positioning Spider-Man during his swings a doddle. You can swing up the side of a building and land pretty much wherever you want to. Sprinting up and down vertical surfaces is also really easy. They've introduced something called the Web Rush Mode, which allows you to slow everything down and view the world from Spider-Man's perspective. From there, you can aim your reticle and see ghostly gold images of what Spider-Man can do if you release the Web Rush button while he's aiming at that point. So you can swing high into the sky, hit Web Rush and web onto a flag pole, which he'll perch on.

You can also use Web Rush to zip around the city by chaining presses of the button. If you just tap it, you can use the technique without slowing everything down, but it'll be less precise. It's normally enough to get in the general direction of where you want to go though. It's a good system, and really helps out when you want to go to a specific place without swinging around and just missing it each time. You can also use Web Rush in combat, but its effectiveness is really hit and miss.

Spider-Man gets a smartphone early on, which he can tune into police scanners to pick up on crimes in progress. In Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate, these would appear as little blips on your radar that you can ignore or go and swing to the rescue. In Amazing, they're basically big icons on your map, that you might have to swing halfway across the city to reach. It makes New York feel really robotic and less alive than it did in past games. I believe there's a limited number of these missions, and little variety among certain mission types.

Car chases aren't car chases anymore. You have to land on a police car to start them, then it'll fade out to a cutscene where the criminal's vehicle busts onto the scene. Then you use Web Rush to jump onto the criminal's car, mash circle to web up their windscreen and occasionally use triangle to dodge a shotgun blast. That's it every time. Starting the mission is disappointing, since it's clearly a mission separate to the rest of the world, not something you'd stumble across.

There's other mission types, like rescuing victims of the zombie-like cross species outbreak. They're okay for what they are, and you actually can stumble across them. There's still an icon on your map, but I've managed to find mental patients without hooking up the scanner to detect them (there's also a break out at the mental asylum. Not Arkham, but it wants to be)

Spider-Man winds up taking photos for the Daily Bugle, but not in the capacity you might expect. He befriends a reporter who loans him her camera, and is willing to give him good publicity if he helps her photograph stories. You basically get a brief and a location, swing there and take photos of the stuff on your list. It requires a bit of exploration but nothing too taxing. You can also use your camera to photograph enemies and unlock a profile for them. It's a nice touch that helps with the world building if you like reading profiles.

There are extras to unlock, profiles, character models and concept art (if I'm not mistaken), and as you swing across the city you'll encounter comics all over the place. Seriously, when you first start out you won't be able to move without a button prompt flashing up to Web Rush over to a comic. The upside is that when you collect them and reach certain landmarks, you unlock actual comics that you can read in-game. They're generally related to the Amazing Spider-Man story, like reading the original Amazing Fantasy 15, or one of the recent Lizard stories 'Shed'. It'd a good touch if you haven't already read these comics, or if you just want to read them again.

So far, the story has been okay. Oscorp gets fleshed out a bit, with new figureheads appearing along with horrifying new research, but it's mostly introduced within the expositionary first few minutes. Also, I don't know if you've played Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but they stole the entire introduction set-up from that: walking around a super laboratory with your love interest, seeing all the wacky experiments going on, her speaking to her colleagues until sudden disaster strikes. The theft doesn't really bother me, and it works well enough, but it is a bit cheeky.

But Spider-Man is house sitting for Stan Lee. That's pretty awesome. Or rather "Aunt May's friend Stan who is out on vacation". You use his apartment as a base of operations, going there at various points throughout the story. You can use it to replay missions (story missions tend to take place indoors and at specific locations. The controls change, but not by much. There are also hidden items and completion percentages to encourage replay value) and there's an option to change Spider-Man's costume. At first you only get the movie version, and the movie version with a belt, but as you find hidden locations or complete the game, you get more costumes to wear.

All in all, it's a decent game, if a bit clunky. The combat system is serviceable, but its similarities to the Arkham games are only superficial. You unlock new abilities through a menu that's nearly identical to Batman's, and they really didn't bother to hide it. Missions are just sort of there, and pretty repetitive. There are things that you might miss from previous Spider-Man games, but the Web Rush is a pretty cool addition, even if going into slow-mo all the time is a bit disruptive to the pace of swinging about the city.

If you're going to get it, I recommend getting it for the story, which picks up a few months after the movie. It's a good way to get more out of the world, while building it up. Spider-Man makes a lot more quips in the game, and a lot of them are funny. It might be best waiting until you can get the game used, given how expensive it is. But then again, you can also play as Stan Lee, with unique dialogue and spider powers. And that is pretty damn sweet.

((Yep, that sounds like a game I'll pick up used. I've been replaying Ultimate lately, still an awesome game even if it feels outdated. Chasing Beetle from Queens to Manhattan will never get old, even if I can't just replay that mission.

TK, I don't know why you're being nice and not holding up the RP when you should be putting down the mouse and going to the movies.))

Takamaru's Aura was depleted? Salieri looked down at her hands. That could explain why she was still feeling so tired. She must have expended a lot of Aura the night before. But Jump can run across a city in a few seconds. That should take a lot of Aura. The next thing I should do is learn how to increase my Aura reserves. Until then, maybe I should take it slower. Moze said that this power could get dangerous, and I already start electrocuting myself.

When Takamaru asked about what the electricity could do, she began to stammer "It's uh...I-"

The Battle Girl had only learned how to sense and bring out the bioelectricity. She hadn't experimented on it's applications yet, the first part was hard enough to do. If she could create a discharge around her hand, she might be able to make some sort of taser punch.

"I can zap. I mean, I zap people." She held up a finger gun and blew the imaginary smoke off of the pretend barrel. "Only one of the many potential tricks of the Sensational Salieri."

Chen Zhen and Liuye Dao exchanged glances. Not once did they see Salieri "zap" anybody. That was the theory, but it still hadn't happened yet. The Pansage rolled his eyes and shook his head. [Don't get ahead of yourself.]

Salieri grinned and rubbed the top of his head. "Aw, you. I have no clue what you're saying. Anyway, I'm taking these guys over to the Battle Institute for some training, so I'll see you around."

And unless Takamaru wanted to stop her, the Battle Girl and her team would continue on the path to the facility.
