Yeah, if Saphen or I won this round, and then went through two rounds of nada, it'd be pretty annoying.

Right.
A person has to know when to call it quits. For example, I called it quits the moment I stopped having fun here.
There's always next year is all I can say. Some of us learned some valuable lessons. For example, I learned to never join this tournament as a contestant ever again. Instead, I'd rather judge for this thing. Like I'll take as long as the others (I think), but when you do get my comments you won't be losing because A) I don't like how you RP, and B) You had two fragments in a fight you shat out over 4000 words in.

This and the next few weeks are just rough for most people with the school year starting up again. But besides that, there are still some people who just don't want to do it anymore but keep advancing along. When they get paired off with somebody who might be interested it really doesn't work out for either of them, which is kind of the case with the Anson / Rylen match. Why stay up after working long hours and you need to get ready in a few hours for your day taking the time it takes to make a quality post for no reason because the other person doesn't care about this nor care that they're ruining it for you too?
Anyway, I think what should be done is you spend this time assessing what happened this year. What happened that was good, what was bad, what changes can be made. Right now you have a pretty level headed crowd since everyone who was bitching really hard moved on. You'll get a few to come out of lurking to throw in their two cents, but for the most part you should be able to get pretty clear feedback. That is if you wish to do this again next year.
I know it might seem like a lot of work and you probably don't want to hear about this again until next March, but I personally think the tournament would benefit greatly if you started planning and brainstorming now.
I've sent you messages before that I'm willing to help you out and still am. I have a lot of ideas for things but if you're not interested in hearing them from anyone then you're going to get the same things that happened this year. I'm pretty sure everyone that's still around and a bit active would be more than glad to offer you ideas on how to not let the thing die off so fast the next time.

I don't want to make this so complex. What has worked for the last GTBs still worked this time. Just, some people wanted more out of it than what I've given, so the weaknesses of my strategy were shown. I admit, I take a carefree attitude when I run this tournament. It's just an annual thing for people to fight at in single combat. I don't try to make it this big bash party where everything is great and the quality is up there.
However, it isn't. Judges aren't perfect, schedules aren't perfect, nothing is perfect. It is still a writing competition after all and a lot of us have lives to tend to. It's natural. I know I didn't put as much energy into this thing that I wanted, but I like to think I put enough, you know, taking hours out of everyday judging and stuff.
I don't ask for much really.

I'll never roleplay over IRC.
Completely against my writing style.
