He started a religion using the holo "Varn, world of Water" with the insectoid, primitive, desert dwelling Kamarrians. He switched the holo to a sitcom and they chased him out, and nearly killed him. I am recalling this from memory, and haven't looked it up.

I thought it was just that Han remembered in another series of movies that he hated snakes, but realized it would be copywrite infringement if he hated the same thing.

Mostly correct, he did start the religion, but he didnt switch the holo, the Kamarrians just demanded that he turn their world that way.

I have no clue actually, they say that it happened in the Essential Guide to Alien Species, and they refer to it in the Dark Nest trilogy

Neg. It happened like 2 ABY, in the "Han Solo adventures" books or whatever. (The Paradise Snare etc.) It's mentioned in both old and new EG Chronology...
Ord Mantell was a group of Bounty Hunters...not Kamarrians
