Would someone be willing to tell the major differences between Clarinet and Contrabass Clarinet? the BD for our school's Wind Ensemble bumped me up to his band, as long as I play Contrabass.
I've only ever seen a contrabass before. I know the notes are lower, the keys are more spaced out, and it takes more air, but aside from that, what would a guy have to expect?
BTW: Low notes kick the s**t out of high notes. They're so much smoother sounding.

Your going from b flat to e flat, if you need the basic scale i can tell you, and you have an extra key, though you'll hardly ever use it. (Its an E flat) Um, also, unless you have specific music, (which is rare for me) You'll most likely be playing with the bari saxes,... but have fun, its a great instrament. I've been playing it for 5 years now.

Thanks. I already know the Eb scales from Alto Sax, so that should make the transition a little easier.

hi!! I just joined this guild, cause my friend (a trombone player) told me about it. I just finished middle school, and I'm gonna be a freshman in high school when school starts. I can't wait to march! even though I know some people have told me their different opinions: it sucks or it's really fun. What do yall think of it? I just had tryouts for the high school band three days ago. We won't get the results back for a couple of weeks and the suspense is killing me! The tryout music was sort of difficult. We had to go up to the second G above the staff and then back down to the first F above the staff...I'm guessing I did relatively well. Anyways, i hope I have fun in this guild! 3nodding

Marching band's fun if you have the determination not to give up on it, sad my school's marching band is gonna sux next year cause everybody's quitting on us. There's only about 40-50 of us (including the guard) left to march for our 3A school (our football team was 3A state champs but they're gonna sux this year too [we're losing 20 players *all seniors*]).

Have you guys bought clarinets off of ebay? How reliable are they? Do you trusts them?
My Mother refuses to pay full price for a new clarinet and she rather go with ebay even though I'm a bit sad about not getting a brand spanking new one. Feedback, please fellow clarinets?

Obaa-chan Well, that was a fun story. Who here chews on new reeds?! *raises hand* biggrin I do,they taste kinda warm..like paper. I eat paper too, but not if it has ink on it. I think they taste like macaroni and cheese, minus the cheese. So, er, pasta. xp But only when they're brand new. After a couple uses I don't really notice a taste anymore... I play clarinet in my band (well, I'm graduating a week from tomorrow, but I'll continue with that at community college) for concert season (I'm in colorguard for marching), and I've been playing since fifth grade, so.... 8 years. So yay for my fellow claries and keep up the good work! biggrin

Fellow woodwinds. I am a saxophone that has never played clarinet (I have never had the opportunity). I have just been elected woodwind seargent for my band. I would appreciate any tips you could give me on how to deal with clarinets. A few questions I have are:
What are the worst notes (tuning wise)? What are the most common instrument problems that are easily fixed, and how do you fix them (i.e. a saxophones screws always come loose, so I keep little screwdrivers with me.)? What are the best notes to tune on? (more than one please, I am composing my own woodwind warm-up)
Anyother tips on your section would be very helpfull as well.
Thank You!

(more than one please, I am composing my own woodwind warm-up) hmm...i'm not a very experienced clarinetist. i've been playing it for about 2 1/2 - 3 years now but that's only within my school concert band. we always just tune to concert Bb and use the same warm up sheet everywun else in the band has i have a question. my friend, who just started playing the clarinet in feb, squeaks a lot when she tries to pay notes with the octave key or notes lower than the A below middle c. she cleans her clarinet, i've told her to try loosening her embouchure and to not blow too hard into it but nothing works XD anyone know how to help her?
