is there anyone else here who's in a guard/band that doesn't do field shows at all? just parade comps? that seems to be the norm here in the bay area, but i have this random cousin in indiana who came to visit. he was in pit and had never heard of competing in a parade... anywhos, i'm gonna be a senior...and "assistant" captain woot woot! i'm just scared i'll screw something up and my director will yell at me...

I tried out for flag at the end of last year because I was planning to skip 8th but I ended up not skipping and so I have to try out again with my friend Chicken/Savannah (Band nickname/real name). So I guess my question is, do the bassoon players in other bands play a different instrument as well as bassoon in marching season or do they join guard?

Yeah, and when trying out for district band, someone in the double reed warm-up room asked if anyone was in guard. Half of the bassoonists raised their hands.

Hello? I tried out for guard three days ago I think-on Thursday night. I'm sooo happy I made it!! As far as I know, most of my friends did too. I'm just sad that I couldn't get a flag to practice with over the summer. It's so much fun! biggrin

i am in color guard and percussion at Anna-Jonesboro communtiy high school and it is really fun marching season is probably the most active and percussion and one of the ,ist funniest things i have ever done in my life it takes three things to be great at both 1. you HAVE to count, if you dont you will mess up everytime i promise you 2. you have to know the music pretty well before you can accomdate where your going and what your doing 3. just do the best you can if you mess up just go with it if they dont notice then your good if they take off points they will give points back for picking back up and continuing with intecipation............. its really fun!!!!!! ^_^

I come from a school that doesn't have much funding. BUT! We are so lucky that this year we'll be able to use 2 flags per person and have a rifle line!!! Woot! This year's theme is Woodstock. HIPPIE TIME!

I play flute and am in guard I'm soooo excited we're going to DC this year to march in the Independence Day parade and we're doing one of my favorite songs!! -Hums- Every time I hear even a recording of it, I'll grab something and start twirling it. All you people using rifles and sabers and cool stuff? LUCKY DUCKIES!!! We only used flags and ribbons this year. Holly says two people might get rifles for DC but since it's been my first year this past year I won't get to and I know it. sad Yes our school only has two rifles atm. I hope we get more! LOLZ I was reading the first page about hitting people-no one messes with our guard girls, even other schools. Why? We have four or five six-foot flag poles and we're not afraid to use them! The dancers-who are jealous of our new sparkly uniforms- call us the future pole dancers of America. We-the entire band, not just guard-call them the future strippers of America. Oh, rivalries. At least we're modest and fully dressed on the field. The one thing I really wish is that our guard got to do more of the dancing-type stuff instead of the rigid drill stuff. I'm more of a dancer myself, and most of the girls on the squad are, even though I'm one of the few who no longer takes lessons or anything. I want to be able to be more showy. I'm a natural show-off. I'll admit it. biggrin Our instructor says maybe this coming year we'll do that and I'm sooo excited!!!

I'm starting my third season of Outdoor Colorguard this year and spun 2 seasons of Winter Guard. This is also my second year as Captain biggrin I was really excited. My school spins 6ft poles along with swing flags (sometimes), rifles and sabres. My favorite is definitely the sabre. I heart SABRE!!!!

So, we recently had color guard try-outs at my school and I graduated (TEARS) but I was in color guard all 4 years so I helpped out. I got it stuck in the ceiling of the bandroom. The new comers thought it was scary but my girls and I died laughing. We do that at every try-out. I'm going to miss color guard so much 3 (My college is a medical one w/o a marching band) Good luck to everyone next marching season.!!
