Shiro had been late to dinner - to the point where he had missed it entirely, and Kaito had brought food back to their tent for him. Shortly after dinner was over, however, he emerged from his tent empty handed and with a discouraged expression on his face. He stretched his entire body, then ran his fingers through his hair and started towards the fire, where a few others were sitting.
Andarien had been collecting his Pokemon together when Shiro emerged, and when he spotted his cousin, he called to Miyuki softly and nodded towards him.

Miyuki nodded and made her way over to Shiro to meet up with him. He looked annoyed, but she hoped he wouldn't mind her one question. It looked like whatever he was researching didn't yield anything.
That or Kaito did take the tablet without any prompting whatsoever.

It looked as though Shiro was going to walk right past the fire, and Andarien called out to him to get his attention, hoping that he wouldn't disturb those who had already gone to bed for the night.
Shiro heard him and turned to see who was calling him, and when he saw Andarien and Miyuki, he turned towards them. He tried to smile, but he was very tired, and it didn't work very well.
"Hi, guys," he said quietly when he was closer to them. "What's up?"

Miyuki thought he was going to join them, but it seemed like Shiro wanted to stalk off. Now she really was wondering if Kaito had taken Shiro's tablet.
"I was wondering, I know it's only been a few months back in Gaia, and I don't know how your connection to Ura works, but....could you ask Ura if there has been any new information about Pokemon, see if he could find anything on Suki?"
It was quite a request, but Gaia was where they came from, so it would be the only place that might have information.

Shiro rubbed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose for a moment.
"Ah ... yeah, I can do that," he murmured. He sighed and lowered his hand. "Do you mind if I wait until tomorrow, though? I've been talking with Ura most of the day and I've about lost my patience for it for the moment."

"That's fine," Miyuki assured him, "Is there trouble back in Gaia?"
Or was Ura being blunt? She knew he could be just as blunt as Shiro, just not as catty as Kaito. If that made any sense whatsoever.

Shiro shook his head. "No, things are fine. I just had an idea that failed, that's all."
Andarien frowned lightly. "What idea?" he asked.
Shiro sighed. "Since before we left for our trip, I've been wondering if I could somehow connect my tablet to Gaia from here, the way Ura and I can share our thoughts despite being in different worlds. I had a thought about that crystal you two found back in Amon Darthir ... I researched what I could on my end, Ura did more research on his end ... and we came up empty."

"I thought that crystal was more like... what is the Gaia term... a battery?" Miyuki inquired.
She hadn't thought to use the crystal as a way to contact between worlds. Though that did make her wonder.

"Yes, insofar as it can hold a charge of electricity," Shiro agreed, "but in Gaia, crushed crystals are the key component in any radio transmission. I don't know, maybe if I had more of the crystal and I didn't have to worry about destroying the whole thing ... or maybe if I had better tools, better equipment ..."
He shook his head. "It might be a problem I have to work out in Gaia. That's all."

"Oh...." Miyuki mused on this.
She didn't know enough about technology though to offer any real advice. If she had, she would have agreed with Shiro right away, it would probably take Gaian technology to test the crystal frequency to see if that was even possible.
"That does sound complicated..."

Shiro shrugged. "It'd be easier if there wasn't such a time delay between responses from Ura," he said flatly. "But the time difference between the worlds is painful when I'm waiting for him to look for information."
He sighed again. "Anyways I'd like to go walk this off, if you don't mind. Don't take it personally."
He turned abruptly on his heel and started off for the woods.

"That must have been really frustrating," Miyuki mused as she watched him go off.
It was a pity they didn't grab more of that crystal, but then they were being chased by a dragon back then.
"I wonder what else that crystal could do," she mused, "Besides store electricity..."
She looked over at Andarien thoughtfully, who had helped her get Shiro's attention. Taking a seat beside him, she murmured.
"I guess we'll have to wait until Shiro's in a better mood, I wish I could help, but I don't know a thing about technology from Gaia."
She could use it but not the technical bits.

Andarien shrugged. "I don't know, either," he admitted. "I kind of figured that since technology like that doesn't exist here it can't be used for that. Magic is what is used to cross the worlds, so I thought it would be magic that would let him communicate across the worlds."
He shrugged again. "At least that's my thoughts."
He really didn't know. He had never studied magic, and had done what he could to avoid it when possible since they'd discovered that the lights he'd been seeing were magic.

"Well... it's not so much technology doesn't exist, it's just no one has gotten to the point to want to create anything like Gaian technology, which isn't a bad thing," Miyuki murmured thoughtfully.
She noticed how a lot of the technology developed in Caras Galadhon didn't exist in the Four Lands or in other places they traveled.
"I mean... technology like the kind of gears you make, telescopes or even a piping system for water can be found in Caras Galadhon but not anywhere else. It just depends on what each society knows and what they need. If there is no real need for anything better, the chances of anyone making it is slim."
Though Andarien's comments about magic did make her wonder.
"Though I do wonder if it's possible to mix technology and magic," she mused, "I mean, I'm pretty sure it is possible to create a communicate device using magic, probably a mirror system like Wren uses, but it probably takes far more power."

"I didn't say that there's no technology," Andarien pointed out with a sigh, "just that there's no technology like that here. But whatever. You're right that it's not a bad thing. As much as Gaia was very convenient, here we get by just fine and without yucking up the air and stuff."
He knelt down and picked up Kaede, who had been rubbing up against his leg, and started stroking her like a kitten. "Maybe Shiro should be talking to Lancaeriel or Cael, then," he murmured. "He knows he can use magic, he summoned Ura, after all. And I've seen it on him, though it comes and goes."
