For assassin esque characters, it's not what goes good together but what you're good at. I naturally make such characters and tend to focus on traits that all compliment each other while still focusing on simplicity. If anything, go Nara/Assassin would be kind of a contradiction as assassins are ment to be quick, fierce and stick with the shadow. Precision should be needed not controlling and area of effect. Nara comes at a downside as it takes concentration to lock someone and if there's someone else to stop it and you don't catch 'em, you're pretty much screwed. You want speed, precision, accuracy, range and stealth. Shadow imitation traps someone, and has that precision, but would be awkward to trap someone but have them be moving when you move.

If you have a clan or bloodline, you autolearn the all the way up to chuunin for clan/BL techniques.
