At the prospect of actually doing something, Kiro felt himself become eager. "I think I've rested enough," he replied with a nod. "In fact, I'd like to start doing something."
As Alyosha produced the piece of fur, Kiro felt his eyes widen a little in curiosity. What was it, and where had it come from?
"I'd like to learn more..." he said, his gaze moving to Alyosha's face as he addressed him.

Alyosha grinned, pushing himself from the doorframe. "How about you come to my apartments and we can sit with some tea, something cooler perhaps, on the veranda?"
Moving from the door to let the boy out he stepped a few paces back, waiting for Kiro to follow him towards his rooms.

Kiro took the hint, following Alyosha, and only pausing to close his door behind him.
As he followed, he felt a question bubble to the front of his mind, and compelled to ask it at the risk of sounding rude, he did so. "If you don't mind me asking... why did the professor send me here? He said something about research... but I don't really know much more than that."

"From his letter" he said, walking down the corridor "it seemed that he wished you to come out here, expand your mind and perhaps... find a particular interest?" He walked across the main room in silence, pausing before he opened his own door at the other side.
"I think he felt you should be allowed to expand your mind a little" he smiled. "Oh and he wants you to get outside more" Alyosha grinned as he held the door open for the boy. "Just through that curtain their and out through the door in the room beyond. I'll get some lemonade. You do like lemonade don't you?"

To get out more? Kiro couldn't help but blink in surprise at the statement, which was clearly ment as a joke. Kiro knew this of course, he just embarrassed far too easily.
To couteract that, he offered up a smile, nodding as he confirmed he did indeed like lemonade.
He then followed the directions he was given, moving through the curtain and the room beyond it, stepping quietly through the door - then waiting for his companion to catch up.
As he waited he couldn't help but wonder on Sy's earlier comments. 'If he was mean...' Kiro still mentally maintained the fact... Alyosha didn't seem mean. He only hoped his idle thoughts weren't readable on his face.

He walked through to the kitchen and retrieved the lemondade, placing it on a tray, the small piece of fluff thus transferred. Grabbing a packet of cookies he walked out towards the veranda, brushing aside the curtain between the rooms. His eyes half closed as he walked out into the bright sunglight, setting the tray onto the veranda. He himself sat down, on a cushion, looking up towards Kiro.
He took one glass and offered it up to Kiro, taking the other for himself. "So... where shall we start" he wondered.

Quickly, Kiro took the glass, sitting on the floor himself so as to be on level with the person he was speaking to. The thought of the contents however, were forgotten, as he felt his eyes wander towards the curious piece of fluff.
"Maybe," he ventured, returning his gaze to look at Alyosha, "you could tell me what I'll be doing while I'm here? Or maybe about the 'Aerandir'?" He paused as he said the unfamiliar word slowly, not sure if its pronounciation was right, curiosity evident in his tone.

He smiled to the boy, nodding. It was quite amusing to see another who was so fascinated. Of course the owners all were but that was different, they had practical considerations.
Alyosha picked up the fluff and handed it to the boy. "Well, the Aerandir" he confirmed the pronunciations, "are odd creatures... I assume you've read the basic leaflet? " he ;paused a moment "They have a strange reproductive cycle and this, here" he motioned to the fluff "is a part of it... or could be if treated right. what I'd like you to do is look into this fur, try and determine what kind it is and what might a suitable bird be for matchup with it as well as cleaning it up."

His eyes wide in, this time not curiosity, but surprise, Kiro took the fur in cupped hands, not even daring to close his hands around it.
"B..but you can't give me this..." he squeaked, blushing slightly. "I've got no idea what I'm doing... what if I ruin it?!"

Alyosha grinned "It's allright, it's fur and pretty tought, that thing has lasted in the ground for several hundred years it should be allright with a little water." He took a sip of his lemonade, eyes closed, basking in the sunlight.
"Just try not to use any detergents on it. You can remove a few hairs from the bundle for analysis if you like. At this point all it is is.. fur.. nothing special so try not to get too worried"
He yawned, still a little sleepy. He had stayed up last night doing his own analysis to see how kiro's would work out. The fur itself should be fine, he was sure that if the old Prof had sent him then the boy would not be the reckless type.

Gently, after being reassured, Kiro slowly closed a hand around the fur - carefully, only enough to stop it floating away.
"So... you want me to find out what animal this fur came from..." he murmured in a short summary, mostly for his own benefit. "Clean it up... and..." he paused, glancing up from his train of thought. "How do I figure out what a good bird would be?"

"Once you have determined what it is from then you should look to animals who may be of a similar nature, or from a similar habitat. It may also be an idea, though this doesn't seem to be a huge factor, to look into groups with similar food needs." Anything which would seem suited will do and once that is done I can go through the records and find out if we have another sample which is suitable."
Alyosha paused, taking a breath. "Tell me if i'm going too fast..."

Quietly, his ears pricked forward attentively, Kiro shook his head. "No, I understand," he said the shake then changing to a nod. This was starting to sound more and more intriguing. And to cap it all, it wasn't something he knew much about. Which meant lots of reading and noting. And this, he decided happily, was a good thing.
"Are there any books I could borrow? Nature books maybe?" He paused. "I hate to ask, I just don't know much about animals..."

"Of course of course." he said quickly. "I have plenty of books sitting around here, feel free to take any, i'll show you them. If you find that they don't give you specific enough details on a particular subject then i'll send over to the mainland for some of my larger tomes which I used when I was studying my thesis."
He smiled and took another sip. the lemonade was cool and refreshing. "There's also some equipment, microsopes and the like, if you need it. It's all in the storage cupboard in the main centre room. It's hard to find as the door has no skirting so i'll show you it. I might as well give you a key for it, so that you can go into it as you please... " he stopped, yawned a little and watched the boy.
"you seem.. enthusiastic" he smiled. "I like it"

Kiro nodded and smiled at the invitation. "I just need something with pictures... so I can compare them..." he said, his voice not ask quiet as it had been earlier. Still just as soft, but with maybe a bolder quality.
He continued smiling at the comment on his enthusiasm, blushing a little but still smiling. "It seems like it'll be interesting," he said after a thoughtful pause. "And something different, someone will benefit from it, and that makes it worthwhile."
