It was Rhea doing all these things that Lin really knew that Rhea was quite the adult. Then again Rhea was way, way older than her, which made her wonder if Cindy would stay here, it seemed like that's what she would like to do. It wasn't like Rhea needed anyone to watch her, she was grown up and responsible.
Actually she had been like that even the last time Lin had met her before her first hunt. Lin supposed she tended to forget sometimes because really Lin always thought that once Rhea grew old enough she would like... go off somewhere or something of the like.
She seemed like that kind of person, to want to see things.

Once the cider was ready, Rhea poured two cups for herself and for Lin, and set them in front of their places.
"Comfortable?" she asked, curling her hands around her mug.

Pulling the blanket around her, Lin took the mug that was set before her and used it to warm her fingers. The only down side of trying to do archery in the middle of winter was that they became numb after a while.
"Much," she replied blowing lightly on the drink before taking a sip.

Rhea smiled at Lin. "Good," she murmured, taking a sip from her own cup. She looked at Lin thoughtfully. "Lin," she murmured, "I know you're planning a trip ... a long voyage ... will you tell me a bit about what you're planning to do, where you're planning to go?"
She looked at Lin hopefully, but there was also hesitation in her eyes.

"The plan is to set sail and see other lands, there has to be after all. Serenity came from an island, so there has to be other places and I know Aragost eluded to it once. Though I've been hoping to sail long before I knew where Serenity came from or having ever met Aragost."
She paused a bit to take a sip of her drink.
"So as soon as we're all able, as in packed for whatever might come up if possible, Shiro, Ura, Kaito and I will go back to the Southland and the travel up to where Roydon and Arwen live. Roydon is building the ship that will take us wherever, so that being said we're not completely sure where we're going to go because we don't really fully know what's out there."

Rhea nodded slowly, looking down into her drink. She didn't speak for several moments, but simply held her mug in her hand. Her expression was thoughtful, and she pursed her lips thoughtfully for a moment, then looked over at Lin.
"Do you think that I might be able to come along with you?" she asked suddenly. "I know I would have to work hard to convince Mother and Father, but ... I long to see what is elsewhere in this world. And not just secondhand ... I want to see it for myself, know what else is out there, see what there is to see ..."
She hesitated a moment, then lowered her gaze and concluded softly, "To find out if I am truly the only one like myself."

When Lin thought about it, it was true Rhea was unique among elves, even more unique than Aragost. Not to say that all elves weren't unique but Rhea had grown up with a gift and power that was limitless.
"I don't see why not, I don't even know if that's just us going in my family," Lin admitted, recalling how Shiro was thinking of Storm and Starr.

Rhea's eyes lit up brightly. "You really think so?" she asked breathlessly. "That I might be able to go?"
"Hold on a moment!" Whisper interrupted, running between Lin and Rhea and holding up one paw to stop them before they got too carried away. "Rhea, are you seriously thinking about going with her on a ship for who knows how long? To only Valar know where?"
Rhea looked down at Whisper, a little surprised that her voice was indeed above a whisper. "I've discussed this with you before," she pointed out. "You had no objections then."
"That was when Lin was younger and we had more time for you to grow up," Whisper shook her head firmly. "I thought that you would grow out of it."
Rhea blinked. "Even knowing me as you do?"

"Uhm... just to point out," Lin decided to interrupt, "I've been wanting this since I was like... three months old. There are times where there's no such thing as 'grow out of it'."
She was actually surprised that Whisper had thought of that.
"Besides there's nothing wrong with wanting to see the world."

Whisper looked up at Lin reproachfully. "When every encounter has the possibility of changing my mistress from the core," she replied calmly and rationally, "there can be." She looked back at Rhea. "Do you really think your parents would let you go?"
Rhea shrugged. "If I had my staff, and if you went with me."
Whisper coughed. "To live out my life with nothing between me and an endless expanse of water but a few pieces of wood ... just what I always wanted."

"Just like a cat," Lin chuckled.
But she became serious, Whisper had a point but she also had this feeling that Rhea just wanted to learn more.
"I understand your worry but what are you going to do keep her here forever?"
And forever was a very long time indeed.

"It would be safer," Whisper replied quietly, calmly licking her paw.
Rhea blinked at Whisper. "I can't live my life in a cage," she frowned. "I know this is the only truly safe place, but I have to get out, go places ..."
"And what's wrong with the Four Lands?" Whisper asked, looking up at Rhea again. "It's big enough, isn't it?"
"When I know there's so much more?" Rhea quipped back.

"Maybe if she actually got to see the Four Lands Rhea wouldn't be asking this," Lin murmured taking another sip of her cider.
She thought it ironic that Whisper was asking what was wrong with the Four Lands when Rhea hadn't even seen that. She had lived in the Borderlands almost all her life. Lin knew that Rhea took one trip but that was when she was very young and that was only once.

Whisper looked up at Lin. "Then perhaps that is what we should be looking to do instead," she said softly.
"But even if I did that, and I wanted to still go with Lin on the voyage, I would have missed my chance," Rhea sighed, warming her hands on her mug. "Honestly, Whisper. I understand that you're not very fond of water, but I'm sure we'll be safe. Roydon is the best shipwright in the continent, and he'll make sure it's extra safe, since his whole family will be going along."

"Besides Senka is going," Lin pointed out.
"Fish!"
Of course Lin thought Senka was very single minded in that way, so it wasn't that hard to convince a small tiny Fluffy Cat on the trip.
"Isn't there anything else?" Lin asked her cat who had been napping in the warmth of the kitchen.
"Earendil!"
Lin rolled her eyes at that.
