Uh oh.... was the first thought that entered Lore's mind, he already knew how difficult it was for Elnara to be in the cabin (note to self fall is not a good time to convince, try winter). He looked between the two women and sighed, unfortunately he would have to agree with Alyse, but Elnara was doing stir crazy in here.
"Alyse... I think... we need something for Elnara to do," Lore had to point out that they had never expected her to become pregnant now and so had never prepared for the utter boredom she would go through.
Maybe he could ask Ulani to visit... or just ask for more visitors...

"Well, once Neko has the porch cleared off, she can come and sit outside," Alyse replied firmly, "but no walks! Not until most of the snow is gone, at least. But you just make sure you wrap up warmly, more than just a cloak!"
She looked sternly at Elnara. "Trust me," she muttered, "you don't want to end up how Shael did ... she died, you know, and it's not like Rhea didn't almost either!"

Elnara wanted to point out that Shael's case had been a little different: she had never been supposed to bear a child at all, her body had been essentially forced into something unnatural; but she was wise enough to bite her tongue. Arguing something like that would do her no good, and she knew it.
"As long as I don't have to be stuck inside for another day," she said, folding her arms across her belly. "It's more than a want, Alyse, it's a need. If I don't get some fresh air I'm going to go postal!"
She couldn't even open any windows to let air in, and the house was just plain getting stale. She needed something fresh to breathe - and air never came any fresher than Arda in Winter.

Lore noted absently that the term Elnara used was a Gaian one, but that thought left him as quickly as it came.
"Then we'll sit outside," he agreed.
He decided it was wise to remain quiet about Shael, let's not bring up any arguements now.
"Together," he smiled.

Elnara looked at Lore and nodded, smiling faintly - very faintly - and, since Ulrich was already outside and clearing the front porch, she headed to the bedroom to dress herself warmly.
A few minutes later, she returned to the living room, wearing two layers of turtleneck sweaters, and with a blanket in her arms so that the baby would not be harmed by the cold.

But now Alyse was confused.
"Postal?" she repeated curiously, her eyes turning to Lore as Elnara headed off. "What does that mean? Nothing good, I suppose, guessing by how she said it ..."

Lore tried not to chuckle, he really shouldn't since what Elnara said was accurate. It was just amusing because he was pretty sure she hadn't realized what she said, and for that matter he wondered where she had learnt it.
"It's a way of saying... crazy," Lore offered, "She gets cabin fever far too easily. Neither of us have stayed in the same building for this long, but at least I'm use to sitting in one place just reading or writing. She's always doing something."

Alyse smiled ruefully. "Yes ... I'm afraid no one really does well inside for so long, but there are some of us who can bear it better than others. Uncle Adonai for one is very good at it - though he usually spends his days reading or researching anyways, so it's nothing different for him. Shael on the other hand ... well, you know what she's like."
She shrugged. No explanation would be necessary, she knew.

Elnara returned to the living room just then, blanket in hand and dressed very warmly.
"Ulrich nearly finished?" she asked impatiently. "I'm sorry ... I just need air ..."
And a warm bath, as soon as they could manage that. A nice long one ... which of course would feel better after coming in from outside.

Lore chewed on his lower lip trying not to chuckle at Elnara, because it would not be helping at the current moment if he did went off and chuckled at the sight.
"He should be done soon," Lore assured her, "Just a bit more okay?"

Elnara saw the laughter in Lore's eyes, and she stuck her tongue out at him childishly, folding her arms across her chest and leaning against the couch.
"I can't help it," she muttered. "It's a wonderful house but it's been a prison lately ... I need to escape ..."
She looked up at Lore again. "Do you see why I couldn't stay at the castle when I was younger?" she asked him. "All the time having to be in certain places at certain times, all day every day, never a moment alone, always being followed ..."

Alyse giggled at Elnara. "Arwen did mention how she was glad it wasn't like you had told her," she grinned. "Though apparently she spent a lot of time out in the city by herself, so it couldn't have been too bad."
Everyone assumed she had been visiting her great grandparents, since they had mentioned her visits at the wedding.

"Ah but times changed.... I think... if I recall correctly that by the time Elnara was born there was a real reason to have people on watch all the time," if he could recall correctly the history, it wasn't even particularly old history seeing as Elnara had been born around that time, "And by the time all of Elnara's brothers grew up there hadn't been as extreme a need for contstant watch."
Besides, Arwen, despite being Elrohir's daughter was not the heir apperant. Elnara had been and the only girl child in the family if he had gone learning about the people in her family correctly, there was real fear.
"And at any rate," Lore turned back to Elnara, "I think in this case it's just made worse by the fact you can't do much on top of being stuck in here."

Elnara sighed and glared at the snow-covered window.
"Maybe if we'd prepared more for it," she murmured. "Had more material on hand for clothes, paper for drawing, tools for painting, books that were more than just research ..."
She liked to read, but book upon book on the same topic just wasn't for her - not when she didn't pick the topic. Alyse's book collection hadn't helped her much.

Just then Ulrich stepped into the house, stamping snow from his boots.
"The porch is cleared off, for the most part," he announced solemnly, rubbing his hands together, "but be careful anyways, the wood will still be a little slippery ... and you may want something thick to sit on, unless you want a very cold and very wet bottom."
And then he was heading back towards the door. "And now I'm off to dig out Adonai and Shael ... I hope Shael isn't as antsy as you are, Elnara." He chuckled and left, closing the door behind him.
