Naida, who had been sitting with her younger aunts and uncles (she was a big girl she argued she could sit with them). Nearly bounced on her tail when she saw Shiro go up, she liked sticking around him a lot, and she loved to listen to his music.
Now that the music so far hadn't been nice, but still, this looked interesting. At least she hoped that was the case. Him going up took her attention away from what she was helping Miyu with.

Shiro was very aware of everyone's gaze on him as he and Ura headed up to the front, and he had to force himself not to flatten his ears to his skull. This would be his first public performance ...
Well, he just reminded himself, you just have to remember it's almost all family. Nothing to worry about. Still, he had only been playing the violin for a while, and though he knew he was fairly skilled, he was no different than anyone else when it came to performing in front of a large group.
When he reached the front, he set his case aside and stood with his hands behind his back, gazing out at the many many tables of people that filled the large hall. The music behind the walls came to a gentle stop, and he was hyper aware that everyone was now focused entirely on him.
He cleared his throat, glanced at Ura (who was standing right next to him and looking just as nervous), and then looked out at everyone else again.
"I guess I'm the unlucky one," he chuckled finally. "I get to feel the most nervous. Of course, once I make a few mistakes and start laughing instead of shaking, you'll all know that it's okay to mess up."
He cleared his throat and grinned at Ura, then turned back to everyone else again.
"So ... well, I was originally asked just to play a song for tonight, but then Celebor had this idea that it would be nice if some of us could say something as well," he went on, sounding a bit more sure of himself now. "So I thought I'd just talk a bit about ... well, I suppose about how we all ended up here. For me, it started the day my twin brother went missing. I bet most of you would never have known this, but yes, Kaito and I are twins - obviously not identical."
He chuckled again.

Lore couldn't help but chuckle at that, he knew of course about that since he was there when Kaito and Shiro grew. It had been quite a surprise to realize the two were twins, it had always been assumed previous to this that Shiro was the older of the two.

This was true, you couldn't tell by looking at the two of them. Lin looked from Shiro to Kaito and back again. They looked different as night and day and they were (up until Kaito grew to teen) different as night and day.
She sat back to listen what else Shiro had to say.

Shiro cleared his throat and fidgeted with his fingers.
"I knew my brother hadn't gone anywhere by himself," he continued, "I knew he would never leave me by myself, not by choice. I knew someone had to have taken him. Of course, I never imagined he'd been taken home by someone as kind as Kaa-san."
He grinned at Elnara.
"Finding Kaito back, being taken in by Kaa-san, I felt for the first time that I was part of a real family. I had a mother, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, a grandmother, grandfather, great aunts and uncles ... well, just look around you, and you'll all see what I mean. I lacked nothing, nothing at all, not even a father, though I had none. Father not in name, not truly, but in acts, in thoughts, in a relationship ... Lore, you've always been a father figure to me, as I know you were to the rest of my siblings."
He turned and spoke softly to Ura, who ran down and grabbed his and Shiro's wineglasses from the table before returning to Shiro and handing his to him.
"And now," Shiro concluded, smiling brightly at Lore and Elnara and holding up his wineglass, "I have a mother and a father, not only in act, but in name. A toast to the newly wed couple - may your lives be long, happy, and may you never be lonely."
He raised his glass and motioned for everyone else to do the same.
Elnara's eyes had misted over, and she picked up her glass and turned to Lore, smiling widely, her eyes shining as she looked at him.

Lore smiled lovingly, he could say the same about having a family in act and feeling, so much that he too did not lack. He took his wineglass with one hand, and under the table took Elnara's free hand with the other.
He glanced at Elnara, his eyes shining.

Elnara touched her glass to Lore's gently, then lifted it to her lips and took a small drink. She wasn't quite sure how many speeches there would be coming, or how long the meal would last, but she didn't want to have too much wine, despite the fact that it didn't affect her or her kind.
It would affect her children however, and she hoped they would be responsible about their drinking.
Shiro touched his glass to Ura's and drank a bit of his wine, then set it down and opened his violin case. He took out his violin (which he had tuned earlier) and put it to his shoulder, smiling out at everyone.
"And this is a song that I wrote especially for this occasion," he smiled warmly. "It's one that no one has heard before - even those who listen to me practice quite often - and Ura has been kind enough to offer to sing along with me."
He nodded at Ura, then lifted his bow and began to play. It was a soft, pretty tune, growing lively in some parts, and very emotional in others, and after a bit Ura joined in with singing, his voice deep and powerful, moving to listen to. It lasted a few minutes, and then Shiro played on while Ura grew silent, finishing with a flourish. When it was all over, the two of them smiled at each other, and then Shiro knelt to put his violin and bow back into their case.
Elnara giggled softly to Lore. "That was beautiful," she murmured softly to him, clapping her hands in applause along with everyone else.

"It was..." Lore agreed, "I'm glad he took it up."
It would have never occured to Lore otherwise for Shiro to take up an instrument as something to keep the boy (teen) busy. He wondered if Shiro had read the music theory books (he had no doubt Shiro had).
"I should get Shiro for the copy of his music sheet," Lore added.

Elnara looked at Lore curiously. "Sheet music?" she asked him in a tone that clearly showed she didn't know what he meant.
Shiro and Ura headed back to sit at their table just as the second course of the meal was brought out.
"Excellent," Ura grinned cattily, beginning to eat right away.
Shiro tucked his violin back under the table safely before picking up his own utensils and beginning to eat. He smiled a little shyly at the others.
"That wasn't so bad," he said softly, "considering it was the first time I've really played for an audience ... besides Naida and Jair."

"You were great," Lin told him, "I heard the violin is one of the harder instruments to play."
Though she supposed Shiro's hearing helped, he like most nekos were quite sensitive to sound changes, so he had that going for him along with his memory, along with the ability to actually use what he knew. It kind of made her wonder if he had any fangirls at the school.

Lore nodded, "I only play a bit of flute, and while the music was written for violin, if a person had a copy of the music sheet they could rewrite it for another instrument," he paused and realized he hadn't explained what it was.
He thought about it for a bit before continuing.
"The music sheet is a series of lines and dots.. dots called notes that if known how it is read can tell you how to play the music. I don't know if Shiro wrote it down or not, with his memory he might not need to, but I'd like to know how it goes... for the future."

Shiro blushed faintly at Lin's compliment, but his smile was wide.
"Thank you," he said softly as he reached for his fork. "I think the speech was a little easier on the nerves though ... possibly because that song was my own composition, so I really had no idea how it would be received."
Elnara looked at Lore in disbelief.
"You play the flute?" she asked him, shocked. "All the times I've played for you, and you never said a word ..."
She laughed and squeezed his hand. "Perhaps we should ask Shiro for the music," she winked at him, "and we could both play along with him. I think it's a wonderful idea ... something for us for all time to take away from this day."
Suddenly Serenity rose from her seat, carrying Jair up towards Celebor at the head table. The three of them spoke together in hushed tones for a few moments, then Celebor smiled and nodded.
Celebor rose to his feet and tapped on the table in front of him once more to get everyone's attention.
"Sorry everyone," he grinned, "I know I just interrupted you, but it seems that we have our first poem. I think it was ..."
He looked at Serenity, who mouthed something to him, and then back at everyone else. "Written by Jair, who is also going to recite it. I guess Serenity's just carrying Jair up here since he can't walk or fly yet."

Lore blushed a bit, he did still tend to forget to say things about his personal life every once in a while and this happened to be one of them it seemed.
"Yes," he murmured quietly, "I guess I still do have surprises up my sleeve."
He smiled a bit as he looked to see Serenity and Jair there, he wondered the little merboy had thought up.

Shiro grinned at Lin, relaxing as the spotlight was taken off of him.
"I wonder what Jair cooked up," he mused, twisting around in his chair so that he could watch his youngest brother.
As Serenity held Jair in her arms, the little merboy looked out at everyone eagerly, not at all put off by the size of his audience. The boy had no shyness at all, it seemed, and he giggled into his hands before speaking clearly:
"Most roses are red, But some of 'em are blue, Boy, Mama, we're glad Papa gave both to you!"
Celebor clapped his hands and laughed, and as Serenity and Jair left for their table again he spoke once more to the room.
"There we have it, the first poem of the night!" he called out cheerfully. "Let's hear a round of applause for them - and Mom and Dad, you know what that means!"
Shiro chuckled softly to himself, recognizing both the poem that it had been taken from as well as the reference to the blue and red roses. Lore had proposed with both colours - and more - but it fit the poem well. He led in the applause, his eyes turning to his parents for the promised kiss.
Elnara was also feeling a little giggly about the poem, and she clapped her hands, her eyes sparkling as she looked at her son. Then she noticed that many of the eyes in the room had turned to her and Lore, and the clapping was almost becoming rhythmic, and she turned to Lore, her eyes shining brightly.
"Are we supposed to stand up for this?" she asked him, blushing again, knowing what was expected of them.

"I don't think so," Lore murmured holding her hand up.
He chuckled a bit, he could hear the people around them. It was a sweet people, and he knew what Jair meant, though he wondered who told him. Lore leaned forward to kiss Elnara, with a sprinkle of blushing across his cheeks.
