Pen looked flustered at Feng's question, and his jaw worked silently for a moment before he closed his mouth and cleared his throat, looking away sourly.
"I don't particularly care, one way or the other," he said flatly, shrugging one shoulder. "There are more things to life."
"You're a liar, Pen," Lothiriel said softly, looking at the ground, her eyes unfocused. "You care ... more than you let on ..."
Adonijah jumped a bit as Ryu's tail flopped, but he didn't cry or try to hide this time. He was getting used to it doing funny things without any warning. But his heart began to pound and his chest to heave once again, and he stared at it intently, squatting on his heels and leaning forward to examine it closely without touching it.

Feng shrugged a bit, "That's okay, each their own. Of course there are always things you'd want to do before anything else."
Or there were things you wanted to do that didn't require a family, but she wasn't going to bother him too much about it. Though she though it was quite a pity....
"Besides, things like this is always on my sister's mind, especially with Aliya having her own family," Ryu added.

Lothiriel blinked and looked at Feng thoughtfully, her eyes half-closed and clouded over. For several long moments, she said nothing, her fingers tapping at the ground, and then pulling at her ringlets; but then she smiled.
"Yes," she murmured softly, nodding, "you are such good friends ... and it is only natural ..."
Pen seemed to relax a bit as the subject was changed, and a trace of a smile played about his lips.
"Everyone here seems so tight-knit," he couldn't help but comment. "Always looking out for each other ..."
Adonijah was growing tired, and he lay on the ground and put his head on Ryu's taill, using it as a pillow. He yawned, his tiny mouth opening wide, for so long that it seemed as though his yawn would never end; but then he curled up and snuggled against Ryu's scales and closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Ryu smiled at that, though he couldn't help but wonder about Pen's past. There was just something about family... even though he had no idea what it could be.
"That is what family does," Ryu murmured.
Feng giggled beside him, and he looked over to see what she found funny this time. His sister eyed the little boy sleeping on Ryu.
"Someone is a pillow," she giggled quietly. "I think he likes my tail more than he likes me..."

Lothiriel giggled, looking at Adonijah.
"So sweet," she murmured, her eyes shining brightly. "A step forward for him ..."
She turned her gaze to Feng and Ryu. "I'm sure that at this rate he will grow used to at least one of you on this trip," she said softly. "He needs people to trust ... people who don't frighten him."

"I hope so," Feng murmured, "I've never seen anyone that frightened before, not to mention it would make Aliya happy."
She thought about it for a moment, realizing they had been going to visit.
"Speaking of which, isn't that who you were going to see?"

Lothiriel smiled at Feng. "We were just wandering to see who we would run into," she replied softly. "No real destination ... though I admit I did want to meet you two as well. You have always fascinated me ... I wanted the chance to meet you face to face for once."
Pen rolled his eyes. "You talk as if you've known them forever."
Lothirel wasn't fazed in the least. "Pretty much," she agreed with a smile.

"Have we?" Feng asked.
She sounded a bit confused by this, but that was normal seeing as this was her first time meeting Lothiriel, but it did sound like Lothiriel had heard of them for a long while.

A faint blush sprinkled across Lothiriel's cheeks, and she folded her hands in her lap.
"I apologize," she murmured softly, eyes downcast. "I often forget ... you do not yet know who I am, how I am related to you. My father, Gion, the Hadoren, has in his possession the sword of your grandmother, with your grandfather's soul trapped within it ... and I have the gift of Sight, passed down to me from my mother, yet stronger than her gift ... and it is in my mind that I have seen and know you."

Feng's eyes lit up though she couldn't help giggling at that, she never could figure out how her grandfather of all people landed himself in such a position. It was pretty funny, after the fact of course.
"So that's it! I've never met grandfather, but Long has a lot of interesting things to say about him," Feng giggled. Ryu chuckled at that, "So that explains a bit, by your gift, that would explain it a bit better. We haven't traveled outside this area."

Lothiriel giggled. "I'm sorry. I take knowledge so much for granted that I use it carelesssly ... I really have to be more careful. Mother was always so careful with her gift ... and she taught me well ... but it seems my time alone with Pen has made me forget what I was taught."
"Hold on a second," Pen interrupted, "did you just say that your father is the Hadoren?"
Lothiriel turned to him and nodded. "I told you how short he was," she murmured, "which is where he got his name from."
Pen stared at her, his eyes filled with suspicion. "Well that explains a lot," he muttered, looking away again.

"Explains what?" Feng was confused by that looking between the two.
"Wasn't that the nickname given to him because everyone thought he was a child?" Ryu murmured he had heard about it from Triton a bit and from Yue, "If what Yue and Yuki say is accurate, closer to mother's height."
Which the two knew by now was very short for an elf.

"It explains her sadistic tendencies," Pen replied, glaring at Lothiriel. "She may look quite innocent ... but ... she's quite violent when she wants to be. I haven't seen her in a real fight yet but to be honest I fear for anyone she comes up against."
Lothiriel rolled her eyes, then smiled at Ryu. "Yes, my father is actually shorter than your mother ... smaller than a child by any count. Arwen, still a child, is far taller than he. I know it used to bother him, but no longer."

The two had to wonder what the traveling partners did to each other to have this sort of amusing relationship. Feng giggled at Pen, she couldn't help it, for she was sure that he probably did something to gain those bouts of violence.
"Her? Sadistic? You're imagining things," Feng told him with a grin.

Pen's eyes narrowed slightly and he moved his legs subtly closer together.
"You think that," he muttered darkly.
Lothiriel just giggled.
Just at that moment, the front door of the house opened, and Aliya herself stepped out, her long golden hair braided neatly behind her back. She blinked when she saw Pen and Lothiriel, but kept walking anyways.
"Hello," she said curiously as she joined the group. "More visitors ... this is a strange and rare event."
Her eyes lit on her youngest son, asleep on Ryu's tail, and her eyes shot to the merman, filled with amazement and wonder.
