It wasn't much to her surprise that the Tenmoki girl was the one to hurry up and hush her.... She just looked around at the others, then turned back to the goody goody, and with a hushed voice she asked, "Enemies? What exactly is going on here..." With further inspection of the other girl, Akemi began noticing some battle wounds, and they looked very fresh. Then with another look around at the others, she saw more battle wounds on the rest of them. Was there still someone here on the island bent on their destruction? No.... there couldn't be... Not like there's anything worth destroying at this point... the girl thought to herself. Akemi's well known grin began crossing her face as she came to the conclusion that she was in the best shape outta most of the people here, and she slowly crossed her arms across her chest as she waited for some kind of answer from Akiko.
PostPosted: Sat May 29, 2010 10:34 am

The girl began to calm down, but then a smug smirk crossed her face. Akiko wasn't sure she liked it, but they did need the assistance. "We just defeated a group of crazed animals," she replied calmly. "There're likely to be more around here, so we have to be careful." With that, she looked up and to the right, scanning the cliff above them. The source of the waterfall had to come from somewhere, right? Well, if the enemy wanted to attack, they'd try to infect the entire water system... starting from up there. "My hunch is they're coming from there." She stood up and walked over to Scottie-san. "Umm, how did the disease first spread? Was it through our water?" She looked back up there again, just to be sure.

Once Sukotto had accepted the boy's answer, his first task was regathering the weapons he was forced to discard. He had a strange feeling that the Uchiha was holding something back... well, there was no point in prying. He turned his head to the ground, counting all the shuriken. He decided to go for the kunai first, since it was laying next to one of the shuriken.

Hmm... these stains... this sickened blood... cleaning it off would be trouble... there was no time for such a chore. They were at a waterfall, but nothing suggested the water was any cleaner than the diseased blood on his weapons. Trying to fight the sigh held in his lungs from his last inhale, the boy tried his best to wipe each weapon on the ground as he collected each one. As for Munin...

Xyn lifted his right hand and tapped his index finger on the bird's chest with just enough pressure to get his attention, then pointed toward Akiko. He hadn't paid much attention to the suggestion Sukotto gave, but he was able to gather the details from just noticing the girl.

"Try it." Xyn then moved his fingers toward the trees. There might have been fruits or edible flowers untouched by the strange plague. There was no need to communicate the entire message to the raven. He was, after all, sending Munin out to get food. The only thing he needed to do was give him permission.

Munin was a bit confused by the end of the battle. Why were the humans so calm now? Shouldn't the group be rushing out to hunt down more of those weird creatures? Then, standing out in this place, what if something bigger ambushed them? Gah, humans were so annoying sometimes. Well, if there was trouble, this time he'd just fly off into the trees. No sense protecting creatures that had none. There was still a small debt though. Xyn had managed to protect him, so the raven started to stretch his wings to help get the weapons, but Xyn seemed to have some other plan. Hmm? What? Something about that girl? AH! She was looking for food! So they had to gather food in this place? That sounded easy enough. Xyn even gave him a destination. Looking for food in the trees was a piece of cake for a noble creature like him... well, if there was anything growing that high. Well, the humans had the ground level so there was no point searching behind them.

Sukotto watched Akiko as she took charge. She made sure to help Nadeshiko as soon as she was able, and had already focused on their next direction. As for her question, the Uchiha could only manage a theoretical answer. "It's likely that that's how they managed to spread this infection so quickly, but anything is possible, Akiko. Through all the years I've been a shinobi, I've never seen a jutsu capable of this magnitude of destruction on its own. It must have been a combination of a jutsu and some sort of prepared poison or something." He followed her eyes up the waterfall. "It is a good idea to check up there, Akiko, that is where we shall head right now. You can all eat what you've gathered thus far on the way up to the top, but make haste, as we may be attacked once again any minute." Sukotto looked at Raiken Akemi, who had managed to stumble upon their group. He wondered how Serena was holding up in the clinic, but freed his mind from the thought, as he didn't want to become distracted. "Akemi, you're more than welcome to join us if you like. Our mission involves ridding Shimagakure of the infected creatures. There is no hope for them at this point, so they must be eliminated." With that said, Sukotto took the first step towards the waterfall, still holding his hands in the Ram seal to continue his training. He figured that it would be a good idea to gather any information about the attack he could get from his squad. "Do any of you have any distinct memories of the Black Spring Event? If we all talk about it a bit and share what we've experienced, we may be able to learn more about this new enemy of Shimagakure."

Akiko couldn't take any pleasure in having her suspicions confirmed. This... this was just too horrible. What sort of human being could bring himself to cause so much devastation? The people--half of them were civilians. Innocent animals were not spared. Even a great deal of the countryside had been altered by this sickening attack. She had to get to the root of it all... but she wasn't willing to share her experiences. At that, she drew the line. She had been through enough trauma as it was just trying to forget. It was far too painful for her to even think about it. She did remember how she felt, though. It was a pain that gripped her heart and twisted it around in her chest. She wanted to just drift away, surrendering her consciousness to the void. At least then she would be free from the pain. Even after all this time, she still felt that familiar longing: comfort, oblivion, peace. Death, or a coma, or sleep eternal--if those were the price for freedom, would she take it? She couldn't answer that question yet. For the mean time, she kept her eyes pinned on the source of the waterfall. As much as she'd like to hear others' painful stories, she wasn't willing to oblige. "I have nothing relevant to say," Akiko insisted, her voice suddenly becoming stern and uncaring. "I'll scout ahead while you all theorize." She turned away sharply, heading off toward the waterfall with perhaps a heavier stride than usual. She began climbing up toward the source of the river, taking pains not to fall.

"There's nothing..." Xyn finished examining his weapons. Washing them in the water was out of the question, so he simply wiped them the best he could. Even if he could find a clean source of water, he wasn't sure he wanted to subject such a precious resource to whatever substance was in those creatures' blood.

"Why dwell.." The boy had no intention of disregarding Sukotto's question. Enough of his time was spent trying to recall fragments of memories, or rid them from his mind. Purposely trying to remember something like the Black Spring...

"I've lost..." Xyn let his legs fold and sat next to a tree. The Douken had finally accepted the idea of relaxing, at least for the moment.

"I'd rather look forward." He finally gave Sukotto his answer, the fragments of sentences completely dismissed. They were never statements he had any intention of completing in the first place, simply thoughts that formed words.

The raven had managed to find something edible in the tops of the trees. Normally he would have eaten it right there, but he decided to keep looking a little longer. He carried the fruit to a nook inside one of the trees, a place that would probably make a good nest if he didn't already have one. With his hiding place set, he went out a little higher through the treetops.

"Awk!" The raven didn't want any surprises. Although it wasn't very loud, the call was both to announce to Xyn that he was still in the area, and an attempt to draw any strange creatures out before they could get the idea to sneak up on him

"If you'll allow me," Xyn had rested long enough. Even if it was just for a few minutes, he didn't wish to wait and allow for an ambush like the one before. He stood just as slowly as he lowered himself, his legs staying as sturdy as possible. With no shaking or weakness in stance, Xyn continued, "I volunteer to scout ahead." Xyn first looked at Sukotto, then looked toward the sky as he examined the area for a sign of the raven. Xyn didn't like sneaking around normally, but being a scout was one of the skills he found himself adept at using.

A bit discouraged that there was so little to eat in this place, Munin started to consider circling around one more time and going into the village... but if he left the humans alone, there was no telling what kind of trouble they would get into. At least if he was there and something happened, he'd be the most capable to go for help. He made his way to the previous hiding place and retrieved his prize before heading back to Xyn. He let the fruit drop to the boy's side just as Xyn held out his arm to let him perch. It only took a single nod before the raven hopped to the ground and began eating.

She had heard the arrival of someone else, and turning around, saw a small girl with long, fair hair and dark eyes. However, she had a task at hand to complete, and so put the other girl temporarily out of her mind. She was scraping through a thick bush that looked like it had borne fruit, but found, to her dismay, only the rotting husks left from its last flowering. Sighing, she headed a little ways back towards the group, attempting to see if there was anything she missed.

Seppen was, to his great disappointment, completely ignored by the shiny-looking black bird. Losing a good deal of his initial interest, he surveyed the humans again. A new one, a pale young female, had loudly joined the group that was presently there. Since master had gone off by herself (Seppen had been acting sweet around her so he knew that she wouldn't want him to follow if she dumped him here alone), Seppen would have to find another human to bother for now. He settled on the tallest, oldest looking one, who looked like he was in charge. He had a mop of brown hair, but was otherwise not very distinguishable to the little leopard. He believed...if he had heard the other humans correctly, that this one's name was 'Sukotto'. What distasteful names humans had. The spotted white feline padded over to this 'Sukotto', and widening his blue and green eyes innocently, greeted him with a cute little "Mew.". Humans seemed to like it when he did this.

With little acknowledgment from anyone other then the guy in charge, Akemi just grumbled to herself as she eyed everyone doing what seemed to be their own things, instead of a group effort to do anything. Didn't make much sense, but what did she really know, after all she hadn't been around long enough to know what each individual had been involved in. She turned back towards the man in charge and just gave him a small nod of her head to indicate she would help out if she could. Least it would give her something to do, but she didn't feel up to spilling anything about the past few days events other then to spit out, "Disgusting...." when the man asked what they remembered. It really was the only word she could spit out to describe what she saw, how else does one describe death and despair?

Sukotto rubbed the back of his head as nearly every team member refused to say, or had nothing to say about the recent event. There was a good chance that it had been too chaotic for them to follow one of the golden principals of the shinobi world: Observation. The Uchiha himself had been on a mission at the time of the attack, so he knew little more than what the Hyuuga in charge of the village had told him. "Nothing, hey? Well let's all keep our eyes peeled for any sort of clues about why the village was attacked, or anything leading to the discovery of who exactly attacked it. For the time being, we'll continue with our mission." A small feline mewed at the Uchiha as he watched Akiko move towards the waterfall. It seemed as though she may have had something to say, but since the other members of the squad didn't attempt to get anything out of her, he also decided against it. Sukotto grinned at the small creature that had attempted to speak to him, but couldn't take the time to see what it wanted.

"Akiko and Xyn, I will take the two of you up on your offer to scout ahead of the group over by the top of the waterfall, but you will do so as a two-shinobi squad. If you see any enemies, do not engage them, but instead, report back to the main squad." Sukotto looked at the other members of the squad and began to contemplate what he'd have them do. Before he said anything to them, however, he asked one more thing of Xyn. "Xyn, I'd like you to take Munin along with you, but have him fly high and out of danger. I'm not aware of the complete extent of your training with Munin, but you should work out a signal so that if you're trapped, you can signal for him to report back to me to notify us that you and Akiko have been cornered. Is this possible, Xyn? If so, you and Akiko may move out. Remember, work together on this and report back if you see anything at all." After speaking to the newly formed scouting team, Sukotto looked at the other members of the squad. "And as for the rest of us, we will search this area for any clues about the attack. Anything unusual that you find could tell us something about what has happened to the village."

Nadeshiko rummaged around a little more, but there was clearly nothing edible left to be found in this area of the lagoon at least. With a slight frown, she moved back towards the group, not looking her healthiest (which still didn't amount to much), but at least slightly improved. Her search however, had lead to nothing. It appeared Sukotto had been having a discussion with the other shinobi gathered there, and hse had just missed it. Judging by the expressions on everyone's faces though, she could guess what it was about. There was little time to search her memory however; Sukotto was now giving instructions for a new assignment. Clues. Hmm....I wonder what we are expected to find. She thought. Nadeshiko was about to begin the search, when she noticed a a small streak of white near Sukotto.

"No, Seppen!" She exclaimed loudly and sharply, in a tone that was rarely hear from her.

To the snow leopard's disappointment, Sukotto almost completely ignored him. The big human smiled at him, but that was it. Seppen was extremely upset; Sukotto couldn't even have said something to him? Feeling something akin to rejection, the kitten growled at him, at ran up to bite him on the hand. Or, attempt to. His master noticed him, and any sound issued with that voice was enough to make him either shake or purr. Seppen never got his chance because master ran over to him and picked him up immediately.

It didn't bother Akiko immediately, but it gradually began to weigh down upon her. Had she really spoken to someone like that? It didn't seem like her at all. She wasn't sure what had come over her; it was so weird. Nevertheless, she still wasn't willing to share anything about what had happened. She decided to apologize later for her harsh language; right now, though, she had a mission to complete. Scaling the rock wall was a little difficult, if only because there weren't that many places to place her hands and feet. The climb itself was at a good angle, so falling wasn't going to be that much of an issue. The stones were round and didn't have any footholds, so she had to leap up and put most of her body weight on top of the rocks in order to proceed. It was slow-going to begin, but she gradually picked up speed. About five minutes later, she made it to the top of the waterfall. The waterfall seemed to be coming out of the rocks. She could see that there was a small opening that she could potentially swim through, but considering the nature of the water, she decided against it. Instead, she kept an ear to the ground and tried to sense the path of the water. She didn't pay too much attention to where she was going, and at times she had to overcorrect so she didn't run into something. She did notice, however, that both the animals and the vegetation seemed completely healthy here. At last, she found an opening in the earth that exposed the underground river. Very carefully, she lowered herself inside. Instantly, she saw the problem. There was a staff radiating with power, embedded in the middle of the stream. It had a lot of writing on it, but even with her love of reading she couldn't decipher it. However, its purpose was obvious: all the water downstream of it was a slightly different color. She could barely tell, but there it was. There was one other problem: by all appearances, it looked like it was crafted in their own village. The wood was definitely local; the ink could very well have been a dye used for the villagers' clothing; and worse of all, it bore the mark of Shimagakure right in the center. Her heart dropped. She took out a kunai and threw it high into the air, as high as she could manage. She didn't care where it landed, so long as others could see it. She knew they wouldn't be happy.

The Uchiha began his search by comparing the degree of infection between the various plants in the area. He figured that if he could find a specific direction in which the infection seemed to be traveling, it would lead the team to more infected creatures that they would be able to eliminate before they were able to harm any of the defenseless villagers in Shimagakure. As he searched, Sukotto continued giving his chakra its basic exercise. If he was going to assist with defending Shimagakure in the future, then he needed to continue to become stronger, especially since whoever attacked the village managed to take out most of the more powerful shinobi of Shimagakure.

Not long after Akiko had disappeared over the top of the waterfall, Sukotto noticed a kunai flung straight into the air. He assumed that it was a signal indicating that she wanted the team to come to her position.
"Listen up everyone, it looks like Akiko has found something so let us swiftly make our way to her, as she could be in danger." With that said, Sukotto began to dash towards the waterfall and began to make his way over the rocks. He hoped that Akiko wasn't in any sort of immediate danger, but he felt fairly confident that the girl could handle herself unless she came across some sort of infected beast that was extremely powerful. She had managed to do quite well for herself against the frogs and had impressed the Uchiha Chuunin.

Within the space of the underground cavern that Akiko had lowered herself into, a few distinct noises could be heard over the rushing sound over the water. One of the noises was definitely human-sounding. It sounded as though someone was groaning as if they were in severe agony. In addition to this, an eerie clicking sound was echoing against the rocks, hinting that something was tapping against the ground.

Non-rolling choice for Akiko:
1. Investigate the noises.
2. Wait until the team arrives.

This wasn't good. If this was what she thought, then whoever was causing this plague was one of them. She didn't know enough people to even think about who it could be. But, perhaps she was overreacting. After all, it could be a simple ploy; whoever did it might have wanted them to find it and think it was one of their own. But it was in an out-of-the-way place, so odds were it was meant for someone else to find--someone who would be too wise to fall for that. Akiko's mind buzzed. It was too much to process. A wistful sigh escaped her lips as she slumped down against the wall of the cave, silently listening to the flowing water. As she did, she picked up on a faint sound nearby. From what she could gather, it seemed to be a person who was in dire trouble. She thought about going to investigate, but she doubted it was something she should be checking on by herself. Besides, her teammates would be looking for her, since she sent up a signal. She decided to stay put for the time being.
