"Yes, of course, I just--" Seto seemed to falter. He honestly didn't know what to make of the situation. Him? A child? He wasn't the snuggly father type. Then again, Bakura wasn't either, but the thief seemed to manage. "It's just sudden. I never thought of being a father..." The word sounded strange to him, when he tried to apply it to himself. He would be a father? 'Maybe not...' A small, bitter voice said in his mind. 'Don't you remember what Mariku had done? You might not be the father...'

"Do you know... how long?" Seto asked bleakly, his thoughts whirling. If she had only been pregnant for a little while, if the conception had been after Mariku died, then that meant there could be no doubt. Unless... No. He wouldn't even think of it. She wouldn't be unfaithful.

"For a while...I think..I hadent been feeling well and I was getting sick in the mornings. It stoped after awhile so I figured it was ok. But them...When we went to down...The women who sole us the dresses said I looked pregant..."

Seto's expression darkened a little. He didn't know why, but that woman had rubbed him the wrong way. He should have had her killed. He should have killed her on the spot. She had done her best to cheat Ayira out of money, knowing the woman wasn't familiar with prices of things. Instead of voicing these thought, he said simply, "She was right about that, at least."

"I... I still can't believe it. I don't know why I thought of it before..." Seto said, faltering a little. His head snapped up at a low growl from the doorway.
"You don't usually think of a lot of things, my boy." Akhenaden was standing in the doorway. There was no telling how long he might have been there. "No... you certainly must not have been thinking when you foolishly fell in love with that whore. Now look at where it's left you. Luckily, I hear there are methods of ridding oneself of an unwanted child."

"Your child-- which may or may not be my son's." Akhenaden said, with a somewhat smug look at Seto's stricken face. "Yes, I was filled in on what had happened during my... absence. The pharaoh's younger wife is quite a talkative one, isn't she? She told me what Mariku had done. And you can't ignore the possibility that you were unfaithful. Women like... yourself... usually are." Seto, for the moment, was too stunned to even stand up for Ayira.

Ayiras eyes narrowed "I an not unfateful to seto! I never will be!" Ayira said angerly. "And I know the child will be his." ayira dident even want to think about the other posibility.

Bakura was glad Rei had left. He had been feeling very twitchy, and knew the reason why. He had learned that the old man was back-- and knew exactly who he was. Seto's father. Another priest. Akhenaden. Those titles meant nothing to the thief. What was most important to him was that this was the man who was entirely to blame for the slaughter of people-- the creator of the Millennium Items. Bakura was only disappointed he couldn't have been the one to kill the man the first time around. He would have to settle for being second.
Seto's eyes widened when he saw a brief flash of white hair behind his father. He got to his feet quickly, his mind still feeling fuzzy. "Get out of the way!" He ordered, without thinking. Akhenaden reacted quickly, glancing briefly behind him before quickly dodging to the side. Bakura stumbled a little as his knife met empty air, and his blue-violet eyes met Seto's. Seto felt absolutely chilled at the look of deep hatred and rage burning in them. Akhenaden was in some shock, it seemed.
