Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 After many failed attempts, Kiyoshi had finally made halfway through the handseal training. The horse seal had been completed. finishing off the second set of three that had given him so many problems. The next handseal was the monkey, and perhaps like a monkey it was hard to handle. Or perhaps it would be deceptively easy; unfortunately the previous three handseals had made him wary of anything that seemed easy. More than likely it would be overly difficult, and that was what he was worried about. He didn't want to be late to class because he was trying to learn handseals. Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 It turned out that the monkey seal was as easy as it seemed. It was a pleasant change, but he didn't want to make any assumptions about the next two. The next on the dossier was the ox seal, and was wasn't sure if it was improperly named. It didn't look like it was strong to use... so who knows why they named it that. Could have been for any reason really. But it wasn't important right now, what was important was getting this assignment completed so he could finish the rest of the ones he needed. Surely there would be a month-long training regiment where students were put through truly brutal training sessions to kill off the weak ones. This would seem like a walk in the park compared to that. Handseals 1d20+Int DC: 12 Total Seals Learned: 7/12 **note: No Hp or Cp cost.

Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 The ox seal was completed without much effort on Kiyoshi's part. He had managed to finish two-thirds of the hand-seals, which meant that only four remained. How difficult they would be remained to be seen. The ninth seal was the ram, and he realized that it was the standard handseal used by many shinobi. At least, it was the one that he saw most often. Kiyoshi wasn't sure if that was because it was simpler, or because it was the most useful. Both possibilities were very likely, but as long as he didn't screw up on this one he'd be able to find out for himself soon enough. Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 Now three-fourths of the handseals were completed. Only three remained, and they would no doubt be the hardest yet. The tenth seal was the rat, and perhaps like the others it would be deceptively complicated. He hoped it wouldn't be, if only because it would shorten the amount of time he would waste on these. Sure learning to use them would probably save his life one day, but seeing as he was only ten years old, he didn't think that far ahead when doing something as mundane as this. For now, finishing the remaining three handseals was top on his list of things to get done. Handseals 1d20+Int DC: 12 Total Seals Learned: 9/12 **note: No Hp or Cp cost.

Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 A total failure met Kiyoshi when trying to make the rat handseal. He had never actually dealt with a rat as anything more than a pest to be eliminated, but somehow it managed to get a handseal to itself. The other seals were named after powerful animals, but surely this one had something worth getting a handseal over? Regardless, he didn't think it would take too many times to get it right. Practice made perfect after all, and as soon as he learned these he could start learning jutsus. That would be quite intense, especially if he could manage to learn some potent fire jutsus. Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 Ten down, two to go. Surely it wouldn't be too long before he was finished with this rather annoying assignment. The next seal was the serpent, and it seemed completely out of place. Sure it was a worthy animal, but it also failed to be understandable as a sign. It was, after all, just like putting your two hands together. Surely it wasn't more complex than that? Of course it would be, they always were. Any time something seemed simple in the ninja world, it was no doubt completely complicated and hard to do. It was just how things went. Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 Only one left. Only one handseal remained before he was done with this stupid assignment and could move on. The tiger seal was all that was left, and it didn't look like it would be too much trouble... but he had said that before. He had said that far too many times before to be healthy. He figured that if he managed to get this taken care of quickly, he would have enough time to finish another task before heading to class. Either that or he would be late. Regardless, he had to finish, and it would be better if he kept his mind on what was going on. Handseals 1d20+Int DC: 12 Total Seals Learned: 11/12 **note: No Hp or Cp cost.

Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 Finally! All of the handseals had been mastered. And although he had faced some setbacks, most of them had been completed in one or two tries! Kiyoshi doubted that any of his classmates would have had such success early on, but then again they could all be powerhouses trained harder than he was. Or they could be complete wimps. It was still up for debate, and he'd have to see when he got there. Of course he could always do more scripture work before he left... Training Complete! Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 Seeing that he had a bit of time left, Kiyoshi figured that he would go back to looking at scripture. His previous analysis had yielded quite pleasing results. Hopefully this time would be the same way. He pulled some scrolls out of the large depository. Upon examining them, the were translated scrolls regarding gods that Kiyoshi knew basically nothing about. It was about some primordial force called "Chaos" and represented the formless void state of the universe before creation occurred. It said that from this void the gods emerged. Already Kiyoshi knew that he was dealing with a very different pantheon from his own or the one that the land of fire followed. Why the temple priests had it was up for debate... but surely this would be a good challenge, and a good eye-opener for him. Analyzing Scripture 1d20+Wis DC: 8 Total Seals Learned: 0/15

Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 It appeared that he would fail already at his task. He had somehow managed to break his pen, so now he had to get a new one if he planned to continue. This of course proved to be no easy task. He looked around, and found that there were no pens in any of the standard areas. He finally discovered one on the far side of the temple in a desk, but why it was there was anyone's guess. He ran back over to the scroll depository, sat back down at his seat, dipped the pen back into the ink, and began writing on his scroll again. Hopefully this time he wouldn't press down so hard that he broke his pen. Finding another one this time around would be more that difficult... it might actually be impossible for him. Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 It appeared that his hands were still sore from doing those blasted handseals. He had written things... oh had he written things... but they were completely unreadable things that probably looked more like the original script instead of the script he was trying to write in. Still, he had to try writing it again, since he had time to kill before he had to go to class. Besides, if he couldn't manage to keep his hands still enough to write words on a piece of parchment then how could be be trusted to handle dangerous weapons? Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 Again he failed, and that didn't exactly fill him with confidence. Sure there was such a thing as doing too much of one thing, but he had to do something to kill time, and this seemed like a good way to do it. Plus, he could stand to gain a bit of wisdom. He wasn't exactly a zen master like some of the priests he had seen. Nor was he a wise elder like the council that ran the village. He was just a child, unversed in the ways of the world. But that was to be expected at the age of ten. Few children were masters of anything at such a young age, especially in these tough times. Analyzing Scripture 1d20+Wis DC: 8 Total Seals Learned: 0/15

Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 It appeared that the gods themselves were conspiring against him so that he couldn't complete this training exercise. He had tried three times to get something written down, and in every attempt he had universally failed. Now, he was left with a piece of parchment with ink smeared all over it. Frustrated, he crumpled it up and threw it into a brazier so that it could burn away. Something that was that full of failure shouldn't remain to remind him of his problems. But he couldn't quit now, because he had already spend a great deal of time on this. If he turned back, he would have wasted his time, and he wasn't one to waste anything if he could avoid it. Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 He really was cursed. Surely that was the only possible explanation for his current run of bad luck. Here he was, trying his hardest to copy a scroll, and he had already gone through a pen and three sheets of parchment. These weren't exactly cheap in this day and age with the war going on and all, so wasting this stuff was a terrible idea. Kiyoshi wasn't exactly sure as to why he was having these problems, but he chalked it up to nerves and the gods disfavor. Had he done something offensive to them? Well, he was trying to copy a scroll talking about other divinities in a temple dedicated to Surtur... That could be a very good reason. But even so, it wasn't like he was following this deities... so why would he be angry at that? Analyzing Scripture 1d20+Wis DC: 8 Total Seals Learned: 0/15

Kiyoshi Masaru HP: 10/10 CP: 4/4 MHP: 8/8 Finally! He had managed to actually get down to business and copy something of importance. Granted it was pretty vague, but any progress was progress at this point. The passage he was covering discussed a primordial deity known as Oceanus. He was the world-ocean, or a gigantic river that encircled the world. Considering that Kiyoshi had never been outside of the village, he wondered if such a river really existed. No maps seemed to show it. Still, it was an interested concept, and one that begged to be explored more. The only way to do that was to look through and copy the remainder of the scroll. Hopefully it would start going faster than before. Analyzing Scripture 1d20+Wis DC: 8 Total Seals Learned: 1/15
