Cody recognized the story. His smile boardened, his eyes remaining on Dari. He only let go of his hand to climb into bed. "I know that one," He said. "They live happily ever after, don't they?"

"Mmhm," Dari agreed, crawling into bed beside Cody and climbing under the covers. He had shared a bed before, but never like this. His heart was still fluttering. He gathered Cody up in his arms and held him against his chest, kissing his cheekbone as it passed.

"I knew it," Cody said, snuggling up to Dari as he was held. "I love you Dari. That's my favorite adventure too." He smiled happily, nestling under the blankets with him.
He fell silent and listened to Dari's heart.

Dari snuggled close. "I love you too."
There was silence a while, until perhaps Cody felt cool water at his neck and a little snuffle from Dari.

Cody jerked, looking around immediately as if he'd forgotten where he'd chosen to curl up. He paused, noticing Dari. "Baby, what's wrong?" he asked in concern, hand going to wipe tears from Dari's cheek.

Aw, damn. Caught.
Dari laughed slightly and snuffled again. He was grinning. 'Baby.' Oh, God, he'd called him 'Baby.' Dari never thought he'd have a lovers' name like that.
"Nothing," he said, caressing Cody's cheek as he looked him over, redfaced and wet-eyed.

Cody paused. Happy tears? He still seemed a little concerned, though. He moved closer to kiss him softly. "You're overflowing," He murmurred, against Dari's lips.

Dari returned the kiss with more passion than most could manage in a gentle momentary gesture.
"Yes, I am," he said, "That's a good word." He leaned in to nose Cody and then gave him another kiss.
"I never thought that I could have this."

"Me too," Cody said. "But mine's all air." He puffed up his cheeks to demonstrate, hoping to get another smile. "I'm a balloon," he added, allowing his cheeks to deflate.
He was genuinely surprised by that. "Why, love? I think anyone would cherish you. They'd be stupid not to."

Dari chuckled and helped Cody deflate his cheeks with his palms. It was such a silly gesture from the man, but it meant so much to Dari. Cody loved him, and he wanted to make him laugh. He wanted to keep him happy.
He shook his head. "Not like this. Not like you. I thought I would never fall in love, and I thought that if I did, certainly no one would fall in love with me."

"Mmmm. I felt the same way, until I met you. I was stupid in college." Really stupid. Went to a few dorm parties, met a few guys, had a few drinks and failed a few papers because of it. "I never thought... Well. When I met you, I just thought why not? I thought you were perfect. Like an angel." He snuggled close to Dari. "That's what you are. You're perfect, smart and beautiful and so kind." He was rambling in his half asleep state.

Like an angel? Smart, kind...beautiful? All not words he was used to. He kissed Cody's forehead and pulled him close, fitting against him in as many places as possible. How had he been so lucky as to win the approval of an ancient fae, let alone the fact that the process would work and he would actually find love? Maybe it was that fae magic Lori always talked about when it came to Luca, just... different. Dumb human luck. Ignorant luck.
"You are the most beautiful man I have ever known," Dari said softly. Cody's back was firm. Warm. Real.

Cody looked at Dari for a long moment. His eyes were blurred with sleep, but he smiled. He didn't believe it, not really. He let his eyes fall closed, and he wrapped an arm around Dari.

Dari snuggled in one final time, not just looking forward to the hours of vivid hallucinations to come, but of the fact that he'd be wrapped in Cody's arms as he did it. He wiped away a stray tear and whispered, not knowing whether Cody was asleep already or not: "I love you."
Let that be the last thing he heard today.

For a few moments it didn't seem as if Cody would respond. Then, without opening his eyes, almost as if it came out on a breath, "Luff you," was muttered against Dari's shoulder.
