The memories would have hurt even if John hadn't been in so much pain to begin with... there was only one being that she had been keyed to take memory from without permission, because that being didn't even have to think to take them back from her... he had created her... The one eyed man was laughing as bloody tears leaked down her cheeks, he was laughing at her.
Munin had tried to save John... if only for a moment or two, but now she was drowning in those memories herself, losing herself to not only John's pain but her own half healed wounds. Odin's betrayal had wounded his raven, had wounded her as badly as a pet owner who suddenly turns on the animal and beats them for no reason at all... and now he was laughing at her as her infraction into John's mind tore the scabs off those old wounds, laughing and laughing and enjoying the pain that she had endured since her exile.
Munin was losing herself, and the portal would collapsed with a rush of power behind John as he managed to get them back to the house... she didn't have the concentration to keep it open anymore...

The portal collapsed safely behind them as John sat on the floor of the apartment, cradling the little girl in his arms, his brain burning with white hot fire as he tried to speak to her.
"S-Sam...S-Sam, f-for gods' sakes..." He groaned, shaking her a little as he grabbed her head and eased one of her eyes open, watching her tear ducts fill with blood and seep free.
He didn't know what to do. He had no idea what had just happened. He was confused, panicking, in pain... and his daughter was hurt.
"Sam...c'mon girl...wake up baby..." He whispered, tears running down his cheeks as he tried to force his brain to think, but only coming back with nothing but white noise, cradling the girl against him as he tried desperately to think of what to do!!

Hono'o bounced into the kitchen looking around her frantically until she spotted John and Samantha, crossing the room in a blur of unnatural speed.
"What happened? She.. she sent me the 911 signal at the house!" The number Sam had dialed had been to Hono'o beeper, the only bit of electronics that Raven was somewhat willing to carry at all times sweatdrop
She knelt looking from her daughter to her fiance before reaching out to John and touching his forehead with a small spell that was supposed to dull his pain... the pain that was so very obvious in his eyes. "She never asks for help, she still thinks of herself as the adult and me as the child... she wouldn't have asked for help unless something was very wrong! I.. gods I expected to see you gasping for your last breath..." Raven's voice dropped to a hoarse whisper as the horror of that thought chilled her to the bone.
Mercifully Munin's new body gave up on her and the girl passed out, going limp in John's lap although her breathing steadied from the fast, pain filled gasps, that she had been making only a moment before... the memories were still there, still trying to scramble her brains in almost the same manner that they had tried to scramble Johns, but for the moment they could not do as much damage...

The releif he felt when Hono'o arrived was nothing short of palpable. The mere sound of her voice made him feel better - Hono'o would fix this, Hono'o knew how to fix broken people...
"W-we were at the library..." He started, able to speak properly now she had eased his pain - before the girl went limp in his arms. Panic flew through him as he shook her again, trying to keep her awake. "No no no no! Sam, please wake up, Sammie!!" He looked up to Hono'o with terror in his eyes, tears streaming down his face. "Do something baby, please do something!!"
If Sam died....he could not live with himself.

"You were at the library... did she read a cursed book? I can't heal a curse!" Hono's eyes were wide but she made John stop shaking the girl so she could check her eyes... frowning at the signs of broken blood vesicles.. that was bad!
She took one of Sam's wrists and at first she was ready to scream in frustration, the girl's pulse was racing faster than her own.. but it was slowing... even as the girl's breathing was returning to normal, so was her pulse.
Sam's eyes fluttered, but she didn't wake... didn't want to wake just yet, as if unconscious the memories couldn't hurt her as much.

"I dont know! We were doing research on....on my condition, and, and I started to get a migraine so she decided we should come back here but then something.....something happened to me....and then she did something to take it onto herself..."
He winced at the sight of her bloody eyes, reminding him of his own, and he could feel her heart pounding fast through his arm....
"...A memory. She took a memory from me...." He finally said, finding the word he was searching for.

"A memory.. she took a memory from you..." Shaking her head as a tingle of fear and awe crawled up her spine. She had been with Munin long enough to know that that could mean.
Pressing her eyes together she touched the girl's forehead with one finger. "Sleep!" She put all the power she could into that word, pushed a spell into the girl that should knock her out for hours.
"Gods..." She wiped a hand over her mouth before sighing and rising to her feet a bit unsteadily again... "Lets put her in her bed... she will heal. Munin can take memories from people, but to do so without their permission beforehand is like a mental battle... and it comes with mental wounds that have nothing to do with the body."

Still trembling slightly, John pushed himself to his feet, cradling the girl in his arms as he did. He carried her up the stairs slowly, taking one step at a time, the effort of carrying her and walking at the same time being the epitome of his mental capacity for the moment, before they finally reached her room.
Walking to her bed, he kicked a few of the books stacked on the sheets off before laying her down gently. He made sure to pull her shoes off before draping the blankets over her, stroking her hair with his left hand as he knelt beside the bed, needing to catch his breath from the effort of carrying her up the stairs.
"Tell me she'll be okay Hono'o...please..." He said quietly. He'd had a connection with the girl that had actually gone beyond Munin and Thor...
He was a mess. He'd split his head open when he'd tried to get the memroeis out in the library, the blood clotting on a gash in his temple...his eyes were almost totally red and throbbing, and he felt so tired...

Raven shook her head, hovering on the other side of the bed and looking as worried as she felt. "I'm not sure John... she will heal, but I don't know if she will be alright. I didn't think she could do what she did anymore, but she has human blood in her veins now, although her mind is still that of Munin.. it just means that her body isn't as strong."
She moved to hug John, wrapping her arms around the big man and holding him tight as she closed her eyes... Raven and Munin always played a game of sorts, half the time they pretended like Munin was just a very bright young woman.. pretended not to know that she was so much more than her packaging implied, but there was the part of Raven that couldn't help but to think know that the girl was her child, was of her own flesh and blood. It was that part that had made her name the baby Samantha, although at the time she had joked about how it would tick Munin off to have such a simple name forced on her, and name with no meaning, no power, no real significance except that it sounded pretty if you said it right sweatdrop
Raven used the moment that the hug gave her to reinforce her block on Johns pain, she couldn't totally take it away because some of it had nothing to do with the physical damage, but she could keep the pain from forcing him to his knees again. "I think she will be alright, I know that she is stronger than anyone ever gives her credit for... but I don't know for sure that she will wake up the same person she was an hour ago."

John's heart crashed. It sank deeper then he'd ever felt it go. "Oh no Hono'o....no!"
He could only clutch at her arms as she held him close. He felt so lost now...this wasn't just affecting him now, it was affecting those around him...and now he might well have just hurt Hono'o's little girl...
His pain melted away slowly, but the sinking feeling was deep in his gut now, leaving him hollow. He wished he could turn back time and not ask her if he could come.... "...I should have just stayed here, I should have just let her go by herself..."
Blood was now flowing freely from the gash in his nose, crimson tears welling in his eyes. His head felt like it was two sizes too big for his body, and although Hono'o had stopped the pain, he knew what he had to do to stop himself from getting worse...
Somehow he pushed himself to his feet, pushing Hono'o away from him as he clutched his head. "I, I need, I need some, some, knife, sharp..." He groaned, his words slurring a little as he felt the gash in his head, pushing a finger through the skin to the hard bone and feeling for a crack. "Gotta release pressure....let the blood out..."

Rae nodded and pulled him towards Sam's bathroom, pulling a small knife out from between her breasts. "I... got the collar."
She handed him the knife, trying not to look back at her daughter and wonder if she would wake up as just Munin or if the raven would recede and give the girl a chance to take over as had been Munin's plan when she created that body within Hono's womb.

Raven nearly jumped out of her skin as her beeper went off again, glancing first as Samantha to check that the girl was still there before she pulled the little black box ff the back of her waste band and looked at the message that scrolled along the screen, frowning at the number and wondering why he was suddenly contacting her...
With one hand it was hard, but she managed to enter a reply before hitting the send button and clipping it back on her skirt to help John again.

He did not seem to hear her as he snatched the knife off her and staggered into Sam's bathroom, scattering toiletries across the floor as he grasped the edges of the basin and looked at himself in the mirror.
Blood had seeped over his face, giving him a gruesome visage. His eyes looked way too big for his sockets and were completely red now...
He used his metal fingers to feel the gash in his head again, touching the bone beneath the flap of skin - before bending down over the sink and, taking Hono'o's knife, pressed the tip against the hard bone and thrusted.
Like a bursting valve, blood sprayed out of the crack in the bone, becoming more powerful when he removed the knife. He let out a slow breath as he watched the sink fill with claret, feeling the pressure in his head slowly die down...

Raven was not squeamish, not even close considering her slight bloodlust on occasions, but the sight of so much blood pouring out of the hole that John had created in his scull made her head swim for a moment... The human skull was not meant to hold that much blood, the brain was supposed to take up too much room for that much blood to have managed to build up.
... despite the terror that was threatening her again Raven strengthened her pain block on John again.. having a knife shoved through your scull was not even close to a painless experience, and the fact that John was still conscious was rather surprising and very impressive.
"Do you need to go back to the hospital?" She didn't want to take him back, especially not with her daughter unconscious and perhaps more hurt than her body could heal... Raven did not want to leave either of them alone and didn't think that bringing Sam to a hospital would be a good idea.

By the time she had asked him the question, the spray had devolved into a trickle, and john figured it had drained enough - Ravens pain blocking magic did wonders, but he could still feel his head...
He wss clutching the sink tightly, hono'o's blade slipping from his bloody fingers as he bent over it, suddenly feeling very nauseous. " What else could they do?" He asked her, trying not to retch into the blood filled sink.
Somehow he kept his breakfast down, and John stepped back from the sink, staggering a little as he hit the wall on the other side of the bathroom, pushing his right hand against his head to put pressure against the gash and to stop his brain from leaking out everywhere. "...The girl is all that matters now, Hono'o..." He said softly as he slowly pulled Sam's towel from it's rack and pressed out against hiss head, walking out of the bathroom sorely to come to the side of Sam's bed.
Slowly, as if afraid any sudden movements woulda trigger another episode, John eased himself down so he was during on the floor with his back to the bed, lifting his bloody hand to grasp Sam's hand, rubbing the back of it with his thumb as he did. "I'm staying here till she wakes up...could you get your suture kit and suture this cut in my head please?"
