You know my view on random anything for stats or for anything else like that. Even places like Neopets (God awful example I know) allow you to reroll stats until you're satisfied, and give you three to choose from every roll. People don't want to base their entire RPing experience on chance, and then end up not joining because they say 'bullshit' to the rolls.

You should try just having something more solid, like 'you are this 'level' or 'experience level' so you start with this many points.

Like veterans like us would start at a higher standing, but new people joining as newbies would start at whatever we want to call them (i.e. peon) and have a greatly reduced amount of points to work with. This allows them to structure the points to their character wherever they need it. If they want strength based, dexterity based, etc.

If you want after all of that to have something that makes a form of differential that will make now two people alike, have a roll of some sore post base stats. That way they know where they start, and then it's like adding the cherry to the topping.

Examples for levels would be like...

Peon < Initiate < Student < Sempai < Sensei

Or some other ideas that you guys would throw in I was just bullshiting that. Just basically anywhere you can remove random variables would not only lessen arguments and moderating from our part, but entice more people to come in and make the application process easier and faster to get through. Basically, prime thing of not scaring people away.

As for stats, do you want to the the basic STR, AGI, DEX, INT, LUK, VIT? Or did you want to get a little more advanced with it?

stats aren't random, you assign where they go (the points you got to assign with are random yes, but you're implying that every single situation we might get into, the "weak" person will be useless, and that's just not true)
when we make our characters they're new, no one will be related to their old characters
everyone starts from scratch

the random rolls would remove most arguments, that was the point of it
if someone rolls like 50% of their #'s as 1's then they'll be allowed to reroll or something

as for the stats themselves I was thinking we'd keep it as simple as possible, and maybe each stat would include two things? idk, I haven't thought about it enough yet personally

Indeed. 100 Years kills off some, but some that can surpass the bounds of time or that live ******** forever like Tut's would be able to surpass even that.

Honestly I'm gonna play the 'I'm not a fan' card on stats again. It's whatever; I'd deal with it, but again it would piss me off so much and where would you attribute it? Yes you can add it to the rolls, but would it not be easier and fairer to just have the basic system we have for dice rolls right now? After all with the basic system we have right now we already succeeded in making that randomization without destroying the game or making anything unfair to players, so what is really the point behind stats?

I say just leave it at the rolls we already have and call that done.

our main characters from 100 years ago will be treated more like NPC's who come and go, but our current main characters will be new and unrelated to the old ones

ok, so if we don't have stats, what's the alternative again?

she does make an honestly good point. If a person rolls and continues to have undesirable stats then they most likely arnt going to stay long.... It would be frustrating beyond hell to start a character and have low stats every where or possibly only one or two high stats and the rest s**t. Its something we should really try to figure out because i think shes right, it may make it hard to get rpers to join. Im not saying impossible and i like the rolling for other things like weapons and the strength/moderate/weakness we spoke about but im honestly stumped. Maybe give an example? Do a roll and show how we would possibly attribute it to a character?

Speaking of bios, i love Charahub, i just recently started doing that for a few characters of mine in a ro rp. Butttt i dont think we should pet peeves, i think that should be something learned within rp and maybe after its learned in rp it can be edited into the bio. i think it makes it more interesting for people to figure it out instead of basically expecting it.

FYI when Ishira joined GNA she was in her hundreds, not immortal but a few hundred years wouldnt kill her off and she wasnt the only one. Npc doesnt sound like the right word to me, that sounds scripted... Like some one isnt allowed to play their older character.

I agree. We shouldn't be blocked from using our old characters if they would still exist. Not having them as a main part of the missions is one thing (like they can be used but maybe to push some story, or because they initiated the mission, etc.,) but they should not be excluded.

I have no problem making a new character on top of that if I have to, I just know that I don't want to burn off Fenris just because it's a revamped RP when she would most definitely be alive. Again, I'm not really interested in the missions and fighting part, just in keeping us from not pissing members off before they join.



As for the rolls thing, I meant the strengths, moderates, weaknesses. There are BEYOND enough spots in that system to put 'agility,' 'defense,' magic defense,' etc. into those slots. I just tried to fill offensive abilities out for Fenris from the heck of it and had six slots left over. Some characters might need that many spaces, but all I can see if the opportunity to have something for blocking, dodging, speed (for first strike,) etc. Accuracy would be dealt with wit the weapon's proficiency, and strength could be a different roll altogether.

(We would probably need a separate thread for dice rolls, but that's the fun of playing a dice system on a place like Gaia that isn't suited for multiple rolls.)

So it's be the 1-3 6 sided die from the person that initiates the attack, then on the thread the defensive player rolls whatever they have for if they dodge or block. If they fail to block / dodge, then the offensive rolls and the defensive player uses that roll to deem how much damage they take and how. (Some people might sacrifice an arm before they take a shot to the heart or something crazy like that.)

Dice roll games always had a defensive roll, and that seems like the only efficient way to do it besides...

Having the offensive roll with their post as an attempted strike, then rolls how much damage in another thread for if it is successful (just to speed things up). Defensive rolls with a blank post, then edits post to add in the reaction from the roll (I.E. whether or not it strikes) and uses the information from the damage roll to add into it.

The issue with the last option is that then they cannot have a roll for a return offensive.

Another less annoying option is that we just have the rolls to RP out that people are getting hit, and we trust them to know that 'hey, if your tendon gets sliced, you better know healing, or you're not using that limb and probably on the ground crying for your mommy.'

The more complicated it is, again, the longer things will take and the more people that will say '******** this' and rage quit for a walk in or a fighting RP that doesn't restrict everything they do. Again, this is Gaia, not a DnD tabletop game. People come here for that freedom because there are plenty of dice roll RP sites I've seen that are fairly popular they could go to have dice rule their life. We should be focusing on how to make this as simple as possible if anything, not how to be a pain in someone's behind.

I'll post mine, but someone's going to have to help me out a bit (either here or in a PM) by...this is embarrassing...differentiating between 'ninjutsu' 'genjutsu' and 'taijutsu' (though that last one I know better than the first two)...


umm...will this help?
Taijutsu - basicaly just martial arts in ninja style
Genjutsu - eye/mind jutsus like hypnotyzing and making people fall asleep.
Ninjutsu - something mroe than both, llike Bunshin no Jutsu.

ok idk how else to say this lol, it's like ridiculously simple
our old characters won't be our main characters, that's my point
they'll drop in and out from time to time to help the main characters out
dw about it, seriously, like, ROFL it's not important, and not set in stone, and we should strive for not RPing our old characters 24/7
that's it

the thing that would be truly unfair is to have our old characters be our main ones, while everyone else who's new is screwed
we all start new, that's fair

stats
strength: extra damage added to your character's weapon (and without a weapon this is how hard you would physically hit)
dexterity: how fast your character is
magic: what level of "magics" you can use and how often you can use them (would have to work out the quantity) (equipping a magical weapon will boost this stat so long as it's equipped)
health points: everyone starts with 10hp, this is how much extra hp you start with (how many hits you can take before you become incapacitated or die (I want death to be a possibility, but that can be discussed))
intelligence: how smart your character is
speech: how good your character is in dealing with people, diplomacy, and how charismatic you are
fame: how famous/infamous your character is (if you choose to put a big # in this, then your bio would include what happened to make you start out famous or infamous and would have to be approved by the DM/admins) (should be realistic and ties in with how your stats are)


stat leveling: all stats have the potential to increase as missions are completed/events happen, the DM would give out points or assign them depending on what happened (since there isn't a level system, this would be the closest and simplest thing)
side note for magic: the spell being cast would determine the damage, separate from the strength stat (equipping a magical weapon would add extra points to magic stat, and would boost the spell being cast, making it more potent)
and not all spells are damage spells, there would be healing and support spells

I think we should just give enough points so that you'd be able to have 3 high stats out of the 7 stats starting out

edit: maybe the health points should be that everyone starts with 10 automatically, and any more points will be extra, like strength's logic
