Daemon stared at Andarien blankly because he got lost after the part where Sylvar showed Andarien about how the wine was made. It didn't help that Andarien was talking to him as if he was fully verse in the language.

"That's... good?"

Miyuki leaned over to Andarien, "I don't think he understood half of that."

Andarien blinked at Miyuki through the massive goggles. "Why not?" he asked, not understanding at all. "It's simple elvish!"

To him it made perfect sense; why wouldn't it to anyone else?

What was it with boys and their straight forward point of views? Miyuki honestly was beginning to think it was a boy quality, Amalirahc could be that short sighted as well.

"Andarien, did you forget what we already told you? Common Tongue is the language nineko grew up with and this is the Southland, which means he normally uses high elvish. He's not really good with common elvish, it's not the language of his home."

They had already been through this when she had tried to explain to Andarien why their great-grandfather had to talk in Common Tongue to explain something complex.

Daemon, on his part could only get the tone but not the complete gist of it. Though it was clear that she was talking about him. He just watched the two though curiously.

Andarien just stared at Miyuki. "Well what am I supposed to do?" he asked her honestly. "I don't know high elven or common tongue! And I really am trying to learn common tongue but I just don't know it at all!"

He tried, he really did; but he just wasn't any good at it!

Miyuki resisted the urge to groan, wasn't it him who couldn't understand a moment ago why their nineko couldn't understand what he was saying. Saying it was just 'simple elvish'.

"Just talk slower and use smaller words,"
Miyuki replied.

But that was something Andarien just didn't know how to do. To him, cogs were cogs, and gears were gears, and mechanics were mechanics ... how could he make it simpler?

Of course, to him, the world was such a complicated place, if there was something he could understand then everyone must understand it; because how could people not understand something that he could?

"I don't know how," he admitted at last, slouching down on the bench.

"How about we talk about something simper then?" Miyuki suggested, "You spent most of your time learning how it works yes?"

She was trying to get him to not talk about the technical details, even though Miyuki understood it didn't mean she really understood how it all worked.

Andarien nodded, his smile coming back to his face. "There's a water wheel up at the start of the plantation," he explained, his excitement returning. "And the water turns the wheel and the wheel turns all kinds of gears and cogs and it goes all the way into all of the barns and it makes everything work!"

Sylvar and Earendil rejoined them then, Earendil sitting next to Lin and Miyuki, and Sylvar sitting between Ivy and Andarien.

Lin chuckled as she leaned over to Earendil, she had been listening to Andarien. It was amazing what he caught on, perhaps she wondered if letting him chat with Shiro as a lesson might at least give him something that didn't frustrate him.

"Andarien was interested in the machine that the plantation uses. Still is actually..."

Earendil chuckled. "Go figure. He liked that stuff in the Eastland palace, too. Asking the girls to take him to see the water pumps nearly every day."

It was clear that Andarien was a bright boy, at least in some aspects: but languages still seemed to elude him entirely.

"Well... he's always been fond of building, in fact prefers that as oppose to actually playing, though that could be a lack of people close to his age, but even in the few times we stopped he never has gone off with Miyuki to play or to play. I know Miyuki has offered to play with him, in the past but he seems happy to build and watch."

She noticed this back when Andarien was younger, and even now he wasn't really interested in playing. He liked to learn, it was simply a question of what did he like to learn.

"Very true," Earendil admitted. "I wonder how he and Uncle Shea would get along. Shea is an architect, after all."

He had been the one to redesign Amon Darthir, and though Earendil wasn't sure about the details, he knew that the new city had been quite well designed - and not simple at all.

"At least for all his solitary preferences, he doesn't seem to have any social issues," he added.

"No, he doesn't and he might find people when he's older, I wasn't much better..." Lin admitted.

And she turned out relatively fine, at least she hoped so. There weren't too many issues she was aware about at any rate.

"I mean.. sure I had you... and Sir Valdemar.... and Elros... and just about every adult who's older than I am."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 24, 2012 7:46 pm

"True," Earendil agreed. "I'm not worried about him. It's not like there are any children around that he's ignoring, after all."

It was true he didn't play with Remiel, Leilani and Aric's son, even though they were now the same age, but considering that when they'd started the trip, nearly a year ago, Andarien hadn't even been born ... perhaps that could be expected. Not to mention, Leilani and Aric were quite solitary themselves.

Lin nodded at this, "Not that there's much in the ways of children when we are on the road. I mean... technically River and Miyuki are only two years or a growth away from young adulthood. They play, but.... you can see them settling down now..."

Especially in the way they interacted with Amalirahc sometimes was a bit telling about the age difference the two were undergoing.

"And that thought floors me sometimes,"
she murmured because she wasn't ready for Miyuki to grow up yet.
