"Oh, you know what dragon tastes like?" Dari asked with a laugh. He certainly didn't himself! It'd be against protocol to roast anything endangered. He pulled up the message and his eyes went wide.
"Oh, wow! It looks like they just got engaged?" He texted back "really?" and immediately got a "YES," so he pulled up the original text, reading "someone just proposed to me" with a picture of Lori holding Luca hostage in a friendly headlock, flashing his ring for the camera and grinning like an idiot.
"That's Luca and Lori! Lori's the bearded guy."

"Not personally," Cody was grinning, "But I'm told it tastes like bacon."
"Really? Congratuate them!" He looked at the picture, paused, and looked to Dari. "He's with a kid?" he asked, skeptically. "Looks like he'd fit in my class."

"Nonono, Luca's just cursed with babyface genes," Dari said with a laugh. He was typing out a congratulatory response as he spoke. "Lori's not as old as he looks, either." He was much, much older. "He had to shave his beard off for a mission and people legitimately did not recognize him." he added 'and Cody says congratulations too!' to his text and sent it.
"Wow, that's crazy."

"Has the "I look twelve without a beard" curse?" Cody grinned. He shook his head. "I'm looking forward to meeting your friends, Dari. Do you see anything else you'd like to try?"

"He does. He also has the 'can't grow a beard' curse," Dari said. Ah, engagement! Imagine! He certainly hadn't seen it coming, although he and Lori had talked a lot about Luca moving in.
"Yeah! Um, let's see..." There were a few fruits and crackers he wanted to try, as well as some sort of seed-pudding. It looked more like frog eggs than seeds to him!
Once home, the festivities began. Dari's least favorite ended up being the salted plum candies; they were far too socking to his new tastebuds, but judging from Cody's reaction he might not have liked them anyway. He did like the dragonfruit and ate a great deal of marshmallows and fizzy candies and things that were sticky or chewy or bouncy. There was a lot of faces made, a lot of laughter, a little bit of teasing, and definitely a lot of bonding. Dari wasn't sure they needed pizza.

"I couldn't eat another bite," Cody announced after a while. "Lets save the pizza idea for another day." He sat on the couch and encouraged Dari to do the same. "I haven't been this stuffed since last thanksgiving," he said, shaking his head. "I'm glad I got to share this with you." He kissed Dari's cheek.

Dari nodded and gave a soft hum of agreement. He had no sense of hunger, but he did know how much they had eaten! Shoving more pizza on top wouldn't be the best idea. It was god to know he was growing to be able to judge human limits when it came to himself as well.
He followed Cody, of course, and sat beside him, then gave him a sweet smile. Shared this? What? Food-tasting? Was it really that special to him? Dari had definitely had fun himself.

Cody laid his head in Dari's lap and smiled up to him. Five dates in, and he felt like a lovesick teenager. Was it the right time to tell Dari how he felt? He took Dari's hand in his and brought it to his mouth. He kissed it.
"I think I'm falling for you."

Dari looked down fondly and stroked Cody's cheek. When Cody took his hand he was expecting something much less important than what the man actually said. Dari's brows shot up and furrowed slightly. Umm. It was too soon wasn't it? They were only five dates in. It had been just about a month. Lord, it had taken so long to make Toby admit his love and even Lori told him to not necessarily expect the right fireworks right off. So how did he know if he was in love or not? He certainly felt like he was, but didn't people feel that all the time?
He sighed. Couldn't find the words. Paused. Swallowed hard.
"Isn't it... too soon?"

Cody paused, but only for a moment. This guy, this wonderful, wonderful guy, had never been in love before. At least, Cody didn't think he could've been. He'd said he'd never been with a guy before, and he'd only just come out of the closet and realized he was homosexual. He must have dated girls before...
But he'd never loved them. He couldn't have. "I don't know about too soon," he said. "I just know how I feel." He stroked Dari's hand.

Cody's unsure language sad that clearly he knew it was sooner than most. He "didn't know." Sure he did. Dari swallowed again, opened his mouth, closed it, opened it again and finally spoke.
"Honestly, Cody, I think I'm in love with you." But he couldn't be a hundred percent sure? 'When it happens, you'll know' Toby had said, and then Lori said you could mistake the feeling. So who did he believe?

Because he probably didn't know what romantic love felt like, Cody didn't push it. He turned onto his side, head still in Dari's lap. "I think I love you, too." He took the tv remote from the coffee table and flipped it on. "Want to watch one of the movies you brought?" he asked.

"Sure." Dari didn't like the sudden change in subject. He wanted to talk about it! Cody clearly didn't, though, so he wouldn't force it.
He wiggled out from under Cody and went to his bag, pulling out the two DVDs Netflix had lent him. He came back and bounced them one by one to make them distinct.
"Romance. SciFi. Choose carefully, because I won't be able to forget it," he teased with a smile at his own expense.

"Want to watch sci-fi?" he asked, sitting up and taking the movie from Dari. "After we can watch the romance." he smiled at him; maybe he'd bring up the subject of love later. He'd felt there was something special about their Dari since their second date.
"You really remember everything?"

"Sure. It's a great party trick. Pick a page in a book, let me read it, and I can repeat it back verbatim. Of course there are things you want to forget and can't, you know? That's the downside." He got up and started doing battle with Cody DVD player. Did he just...? Ah, there it went. He came back to the couch and held his arm out for Cody should he like to lean or snuggle or lap-head. Whatever he'd like.
