Lollipop Fiend No ideology is inherently on one side of the spectrum or the other. It all depends on the context. Herp derp, say so next time. Though, you're still wrong. razz EDIT: *is not taking this at all seriously*

Even if you're not taking it seriously, if you honestly think it's wrong please provide some sort of reasoning. I don't know, I enjoy it considering I'm into the whole history thing. =) Maybe your teachers and books have a different argument to how it works that I hadn't had a chance to look at.

Yeah, I'm a History major who intends to teach history to high school punks.
I don't have the time to argue, I'm supposedly taking notes in class right now.

Well, whenever you're able to I'd love to hear your reasoning. If you really do plan on teaching high school history, you're going to get a hundred "why's" every day. Think of it as good practice!

He'll reallistically probably just get a hundred spit-balls blown at him every time his back is turned, and two or three "Why?"'s every day.

Grisaang Duskwing He'll reallistically probably just get a hundred spit-balls blown at him every time his back is turned And then there'd be hundreds of pop quizzes, and every class would never get out early. Any person even one second late would not get in, because I'd close and lock the door. *grins*

Maybe it's just because I've been at good schools, but when I've gotten in front of the class to teach they're always asking why. It takes a lot of effort to redirect classes on course especially when the questions they ask me are so interesting.

Oh yeah, I intend to be a nice, but strict, teacher. BUT, if they start being little shits, I will dedicate my life to making that class as miserable as possible, because my ******** is very high.
And yes, interesting would be good. It's not called history for nothing!

Ross: An entertaining teacher can make all the diff in a budding student's career. I had an asrtonomy prof that was so awesome and such a showman that I never missed a class and passed with an A.

So, fyi: I'm not judging today, tomorrow, or Thursday.
If you guys insist that I do, expect your scores to be lower, since if I'm miserable from waking up at 5 AM, everyone is gonna be miserable about it.

Lolli, what age groups were you teaching, and were they public or private schools?
I wasn't discreditng Ross' capability or saying anything against the students, I just know how the public schools where I'm from are. They're overpopulated, disorganized, and every morning the students have to walk through metal-detectors in order for the security guards to know if they're carrying something potentially dangerus on their person. Additionally, they all have to purchase either mesh or clear-plastic bookbags.
Our private schools weren't so troublesome, but all the rich little shits got sent to private schools. I went to a private school because my mom was scared they'd kill me in public school, lol.
Even in my school, though, there were the delinquents(sp?) that stuck pencils in the ceiling tiles and shot spit-wads into the teacher's hair. It's just the immaturity of kids at that age that I'm suggesting.

This past semester I had a class of freshmen. I was at a private school, but it's not like a private school you'd think of. It's still an inner-city school and it's challenging for students and faculty. The difference is that well, the faculty hasn't given up on the kids like a lot do in urban districts. These kids were not rich, most of them were below poverty level. The school had a work study program though that placed them in good internships though, so they're getting their experience early/
Third year in a row that every senior got accepted to a college. ^^ I was very happy to be there. This upcoming semester I'll be at an urban public school with freshmen again.
But yeah, I mean there were some kids not as well behaved as others. They were still genuinely interested and asked questions. There's a lot in teaching theory and practice to achieve that, and it takes considerably more effort.
