McClane
redface

Mostly did it for people who don't know the Inuzuka Clan. I actually didn't remember the name of it myself ^^;; In Naruto if someone has some kind of animal, they're in a clan. Thank you for working with me on this, I'm a little shocked that you are willing to consider the single profile idea. Shocked, but very happy. Just address these as I go, to make it simpler. I'm willing to consider it, if it is something that is so terribly complicated for new members. I am of the personal belief that if you want something, then you work for it and earn it. But that's neither here nor there.

If someone wants a unique pet that grants them bonuses, they will need to make a clan for it eventually. If someone just wants a pet to have a pet to RP with, let them do that. But if they are thinking of bonuses and jutsu with the pet, they should make a clan for it.
I disagree. It would be ridiculous to have a million different clans for a million different animal species. Can you imagine? Eagle Clan. Crow Clan. Snail Clan. Dog Clan. Wolf Clan. Cat Clan. Tiger, lion, bear, goat, frog, llama, shrimp, penguins ... too many clans. Perhaps something along the lines of a tamer skill, under charisma, which would have to be at a set level in order for a partner to be adopted or used. I still think there should be a 'tamer clan', though I am not against animal specific clans if kept to a reasonable limit. I don't want to have to deal with multiple clans with the same bonuses, but different animal partners. That is an excessive amount of work for no reason.

I still think that the Pet Clans should balance to zero. They would grant really good stuff though. For instance it seems like Pet users are typically not very sociable with humans, hence always hanging around animals, so they would get a negative to Charisma. There's no way that would work. Animals would require MORE charisma than humans to get along with. That's just ... logical. Just because they are animals, it doesn't mean they socialize any less. I would accept an Intelligence negative, because animals operate more on instinct than manners or politeness. I don't think it should be a Charisma negative at all.

Pet Clan Example
---------------------------------
Abilities
+2 Strength
-2 Charisma
Skills
+3 Taijutsu
-3 Genjutsu
+4 To our new skill that combines sense and detect
-4 To Persuade
---------------------------------

These are all dependent on the specific animal, IF you want to do specific animal clans. A snake, like the Orochi, I can understand having -Charisma, but not a dog or another type of animal that generally has been human friendly. This is part of the reason animals were given their own profile bases - there are too many factors that clash to make a single thing like this flow nicely. Like I said, I'm willing to work on it, but there won't be any easy or simple answers for it. We need to really consider just what their place is going to be in the guild and in the story line.

As far as Pet skills/techniques go, those will just be the clan jutsu. Here is one of Baki's techniques:

Rage Need to Fill Requirements
By utilizing one's own chakra to burst through the body, animals can command their adrenaline to kick into gear when they most need it. This burst of adrenaline helps the animal deal damage and further pump itself up with every attack. However, it does cause them to lose focus and become a little sloppy since they've turned so aggressive. Commanding the animals becomes harder.
CP: 20 + 5 per holding post.
Damage: Normal Fight + Chakra Mod + 1 per 10 ranks Trick
Pet Requirements: Control 10, Trick 10
Avoid: Dodge / Fly / Slide
Special: - Chakra Mod to Coordinate skill while Rage is in effect.

So we'd just change the wording so that both Maya and Baki felt the rage and used the technique. Or, Maya would just command Baki to use the technique and that would count as their single, unified turn. Just like one character was using a technique. But only the single unified profile sheet would get a bonus. Pretty much all pet attacks in Naruto involved their human partner in one way or another, even if they just commanded the pet to go do it.

Again, this would be pending on the role we want animals to fill. Pet or partner? Tool or equal? A weapon or an extension? True, that techniques should be tweaked to include both partners in some way, but something like this example is not a good example of a team jutsu.

Finally, if you wanted your pet to be in a different location than your Shinobi you could absolutely do that. Even just with one stat sheet. You would just have to treat the CP and HP of the stat sheet like it was a pool that they were both drawing from. So if Maya does training in the streets of Shimagakure and Baki does training out in the mountains, you would just have to subtract the CP they each used from that same stat sheet.

This is where trouble arises. I don't think partners should have to split a chakra and health pool - that seems stupid to me. If one gets hurt, why should the other suffer for it as well? They are partners, but they don't have the same body or the same power. I don't like that if my partner is training one skill and I'm training another, we can both magically access those skills that we didn't train at all. It would be all too easy to gain that first training of the day bonus twice when there are two separate entities training in separate locations. Again, this is part of the reason why pets were given their own sheets in the first place.

With battling, we might have to be a little more strict about that and not let them fight in two places at once, but I never see Akamaru go and fight something while Kiba is in a different location fighting someone else.

Just because it isn't done, doesn't mean it can't be. A bird, for example, could be sent ahead for recon, when suddenly their partner is caught in combat. The circumstance would then be whether the pet would be allowed to come back and join combat, or if they would be locked out of combat. How heavily, exactly, do you want to base this EXACTLY on Naruto? Before, we barely even scratched the surface of anything - we took some concepts, some techniques, some ideas, but we reformed them and made them our own.

Kouri makes a good point, so far as training in order to fight with an animal. Or even a post timer - 3 posts together and the animal is non aggressive, 6 posts and it is friendly, 8 posts and it will sometimes listen to you and assist you, etc., something in that fashion, since we don't want to spam training posts and dice rolls. I don't like these Pet Clan stats, but again, that's just because it would depend on the animal, and because I don't think Charisma is a logical negative for handling animals.

So far as where things start, I don't really mind one way or another, but the Sawa arc puts people at higher ranks than just Chuunin, including Maya and Baki. I don't even remember the Black Spring, it's been ages.

I didn't even know that the guild branched off into this Sawagakure thing. Can anyone give me a link to it so that I have something to refer to? I was never part of it, so I'm a bit in the dark when it comes to plot and characters involved with it.

Regarding Sawagakure, it's basically hinted in Aya's (Baylu's chara) profile that she's been wanting to get out of Shima for a while, so the people who went on to Sawagakure took that and ran with it, setting it half a decade into the future and making it so that the generation of characters that was Aya, Maya, Kana, etc. established their own village called Sawagakure somewhere on the mainland. It was supposed to still be allied with Shima, but without much dialogue between each other. Regarding the Black Spring timeline I would say that Sawagakure would be established (and contact made with Shima) about half a year from the present point (directly after Black Spring).

Unfortunately, the guild's been deleted because it became inactive and I think it was converted to a testing zone for stuff. I was kicked out at any rate XD

It made a few changes to the system, such as simplifying it a lot and making training easier, but I don't remember the specifics. I'll try to answer any questions though if you have any haha.

Oh right ...

I think Syl and Baylu were making some Perfect Dark guild, Lily mentioned it at some point, but pretty much everyone got booted. I forgot that it was a totally different spin off.

I suppose that that makes half of what I said seem incredibly confusing, so I apologize for that. Like I said, it's been a while.

As far as Sawa, in that guild I developed the entire pet system where they are their own characters, in a sense. Each person was allowed only one combat pet, though NPC pets were always around. Maya, for example, had a herd of horses used for travel. If I remember correctly, pets took up a character slot on their own, so of the allowed X slots ( three? ), a ninja and his or her partner would be two of those slots. In that way, people would think more thoroughly about whether they wanted to do that or not. They had their own profiles, their own abilities and skills. Where Maya might have had a 1 mod in intelligence, Baki would have had a 2 or 3. Well, in the Sawa arc Baki had been killed, and Maya had adopted a new lion, Roka ... Anyhow, Roka would have been able to go on missions on his own, if sent to do so, and had his own health and chakra pools.

Again, it all depends on how we want to use the system. They can be tools and weapons, or they can be actual characters and partners in every sense of the word.

Thanks for filling me in as much as you could, guys! As far as Game System specifics go, we will tackle those one at a time once we get rolling. Maya and I will handle pets because I think that we can make them be really awesome together. I'd almost want to do both of our ideas. The pet clan characters would go by my new clan system of sharing a profile and receive the same zero balance as the other clans.

Then as a separate system, I would like to give EVERYONE the option of having an animal companion to go off and potentially do missions on its own like an individual character would. However, I would like to make these animal companions be the kind that are Summons. If you think about it, Kiba and Akamaru pretty much never leave each others sides. However, Kakashi always sends his group of summoned dogs off on missions to do on their own.

This would allow non-pet clan people to have pets in a way, but they would have a harder time doing it because they'd have to handle their own profile and the Summon's profile. And it should be harder for a non-pet clan person to handle an animal companion.

I'd like your help with both Systems, Maya. I think it could be a really fun part of the guild.

It is good that we have all given our thoughts about many things. It seems like a lot of you guys are enthusiastic about the guild as I am and that makes me very glad. However, let us now try and focus on specific topics so we can get this thing rolling.

In my opinion the plot is the most important thing to cover, so let's do that first. The Game System is organic and will probably always be changing so we can worry about that later.

As far as the plot goes, I'm a bit hesitant to include anything related to Sawagakure since those of us who weren't in it would have no idea what was going on. If we had something to read, that would help. But the Black Spring Event is something that anyone could jump into. It would make sense to randomly find a new character somewhere among the chaos, so we could get everyone back in; including newbies.

Do you guys from Sawa still have your Sawa profile sheets somewhere?
I'd really rather you guys pick up where you left off in Shima, but I know that if I were in your shoes, I'd want to use my upgraded Sawa character too. So that choice should be up to you guys, whether you want to go with your Shima stuff or stick with your Sawa stuff and convert it over somehow.

If you can't find your profile and you want your Sawa character's level, we'll just figure out your level and make up a profile at that level in Shima.

People bringing in the Sawa profile will be a bit weird as it doesn't make sense that Maya would be so much older than Sukotto, but we can just fudge it and pretend they were never the same age ^^;;

I still have my Sawa profile sheet(s) (one for a new character, but still Yamanaka, and one for Kane that was never used). Would you like to see them? I imagine that Maya's sheets would be more related to the actual wider plot though. My sheets are heavily tied to the Yamanaka things.

Speaking of Yamanakas, I have ideas for any missions we might like to do, perhaps after/during the rebuilding of Shimagakure, so if anyone is interested, I can elaborate further. Basically the Yamanakas on the mainland need help.

I have a feeling that the samurais started to gain dominance after the Black Spring event. [Which could be an idea for potential NPC enemies on missions, mission ideas for the future] I don't exactly remember how. But the story was that many of the Yamanakas defected to the samurai side, and those who remained committed to the shinobi way of life got persecuted. [I definitely remember looking up lots of pictures of blonde hotties to use as generic NPCs >.>;;]

I'll be honest, I am fine with using Kane's stats as they are now [since I never got to use him in Sawa anyway...]. He's not the strongest, but I'll deal with it XD He is definitely capable of teaching in the academy, or leading a squad to do smallfry missions.

I'd be fine with retconning ages as well if anybody else has furthered their charas and want to use those stats smile

Well, to think this place is still here.

I have separate profiles set for both Shima and Sawa. as far as Xyn is concerned. My shima profile is actually still in the profile scrolls thread. I don't have a problem using either one. So *brushes off account* hello everyone.

~ (editing post as I read)
Gah, my last post in this place was nearly 4 years ago...

I've had a few ideas on simplification of jutsu and weapons, a money system, and possibly a more convenient pet system... yeah, my creative instinct is never put to good use anymore.

~
I like the idea of senior ninja taking on students as a type of mentor program, like Gai and Lee. As members come in, we can start to fill the spots in the squad. As far as level gaps between squad members, I propose that xp not be given out with every training. Leveling up is a great way to improve your skills, but we did have xp caps for students b4 they joined teams, i say we just reward whole levels during events or preset tasks. Like if you learn 3 basic academy jutsu you gain a level while in the academy, learn 3 basic jutsu while a genin, etc.

Also SOUTH KOREA?!? I really should talk to you more...

~
Plot... i'm very good with planning things out, but not universally... Give me an idea and i can stretch it out to something brilliant, tell me to come up with something and the story falls short... sweatdrop

Just as an example, this was the last known profile I had for Maya. Looking it over, we HAD condensed a ton of skills already. I really wish that the old files were still accessible to me.

Gaia Name: Tategami Maya

Character Name: Tategami Maya
Affinity: Earth
Age: 23
Sex: Female
Birth Year: 88
Birth 'Day': Fall 1
Origin: Yochi
Theme Song: - - -

Physical Description: Maya measures 5’8” and weighs 175 lbs in mostly muscle mass. She has dark tawny eyes, almost golden, and short, orange hair that is usually a mess. Her skin is creamy off-white. She has a lion tattooed on her back which extends from just above her left breast to over her left shoulder to just past her left shoulder blade. Beneath her armor she usually wears a very snug pair of black boy shorts and a beige tank top.

Personality: A little gruff, but more or less an easy-going person. Maya is very often seen lounging about or polishing her weapon. She is very blunt about most things. Maya has long learned to interact with people better, as well as polishing up her reading skills. She is a moderately balanced person, though certain subjects and questions tend to bring a haunted look into her eyes and immediate silence. Not much is known about her personal life, save she and Aya grew up together until they were teenagers. Maya has a great deal of respect for Ichi, and still refers to him as Ichi-sama-sensei, though he is frozen in stone.

Background:

Student: Maya almost didn’t graduate academy – she skipped school constantly and fought with Kun’kumo Kana on a near daily basis. She was anti-social and did not learn how to read. Maya was dropped into the lap of her drunken aunt, the Tategami clan leader and a native of Shimagakure who spent most of her time drinking or seducing men. Maya was given a lion cub to care for, which she spent a large portion of her time with – when she wasn’t picking fights. Maya grew somewhat close to a boy named Hiro, but just as quickly abandoned the thought of him being a friend. Aya was the only person Maya considered a ‘friend’, though she always hung out with Kun’Kumo …

Genin: Miraculously graduating academy, Maya spent a good portion of her time in a haphazard squad that never really did anything together. Annoyed, and deciding she and her lion partner, Baki, were better than any stupid genin squad, she silently rejoiced as partner after partner became unable to fight in a squad. Eventually she was alone, and so she began to study and learn how to read. She met a boy named Xyn, and another named Karite, both who she considered friends, if not more. She began to mellow out and be less defensive and snappy, but still kept herself guarded. She went on a few missions to the mainland, but found she preferred her island residence. She stuck around, simply helping out sometimes when she felt like it. Her aunt went on a voyage to the mainland, leaving Maya in charge of clan affairs. Maya, slightly unsteady with the responsibility, took charge and managed moderately well.

Chunin: Maya’s only memory of social interaction during her chunin years was during the chunin tournament held at the Earth Country. She was horrified to have to fight without the aid of her partner, and refused to fight. She was still promoted to chunin rank, and so was her partner, Baki. She helped Aya save Kun’Kumo Kana (against her better judgment), and afterwards went to find her aunt. However, her aunt had been murdered by rogues, and after exacting revenge for her clan leader, Maya settled into the role…for naught, because there were very few Tategami left anyway. Maya shrugged the responsibility off on her cousins, who were all living together. Maya began to wander, exploring and training on her own on the mainland. She forced herself to forget her ties to Xyn, who had been the light in her life for a little while.

Jounin: A terrible accident after much gained experience left Maya bereft in absolute depression. A wrong move had almost cost her life, but had cost Baki’s instead. Maya wept for a complete week, afterwards taking the body of her partner and giving him a most regal burial, one befitting an emperor. She alone knows where Baki’s grave lies, and she refuses to talk about her former partner. She had the option of implanting his eyes into her own, but chose to leave her partner in peace. Maya was quiet for a long time, but she became less uptight about being around people, so much so that she allowed herself to train again to further improve her ranking.

ANBU: After attaining the level of ANBU, Maya decided that she would allow herself a visit to her old friend’s home. A few years ago Maya had received a letter from Tenmoki Aya inviting her to her home in the Mugendai Valley. When she arrived, she was slightly shocked but mostly impressed that Aya had become kage of her own village. Maya, stubborn as ever, rooted herself in the village and hangs around, training and trying her best to be another face in the crowd.

Kage: After returning from a mission with a less-than-agreeable squad, Maya found herself smack dab in the middle of Sawagakure's first academy graduation ceremony - and Aya's resignation as Kage. Confused, Maya numbly accepted all that Tenmoki Aya bestowed on her, including the rank of Kage over Mugendai Valley. Maya spends most of her days mulling over things and waiting to hear from Aya, who went to the Tea Country to marry Chiaki. While Maya is displeased with Aya's choice, she accepts that Aya is happy, and in turn watches over Mugendai Valley, accepting all in it as her pride members. She works in training Roka heavily to assist her, and has grown to be a somewhat reliable leader. Maya is not the most strategical person in the world, but she has no fear and is often out on the front lines defending the valley.

Other: Maya trimmed Baki’s mane and wove the hair into a tight anklet she keeps on at all times to keep Baki near to her. Maya despises liars and people who do not keep their word.

Heh, you know me, eternally broken heart >.>

*scratches head* I've been trying to avoid my online attachments due to the increasing amount of... what's the term, emotional breakdowns due to spikes of depression caused by... I could probably write a 3000 word thesis on my emotional problems with the amount of psychology I know.

Long story short, I quit gaia, came back because i was bored. I do check my account every few months to see what people are up to. Replying to your pm woulda meant getting into a conversation i wasn't prepared for... *ahem*

But my idea wouldn't condense jutsu. Condensing stuff left for so little variety, it annoyed me applying for a jutsu and being told it was too similar to something else, or working on a jutsu and trying to make it different from something else. My idea simplifies things so you don't have to get a specific jutsu, but won't have to add jutsu to the game system.

Semblance, the guild is under new management so I doubt a jutsu would get rejected unless it was too powerful. Still, I'd love to hear your idea so feel free to share it.

Maya, it is great that you have a profile sheet! Do you want to use that advanced character or stick to your Shima character (as her profile is still in here too). If you want to use the advanced one, I can help you convert the stats over if you like.

Kouri, I LOVE what you are thinking with the plot. Samurai enemy NPC's would be easy to create and they would be a fun/intimidating enemy to battle against. I also like focusing on the Yamanaka clan's role in this event. It gives Shima another reason to get involved on the Mainland.

I would like to continue to keep the primary focus of the conversation on the plot. If anyone from Sawa decides to keep their Sawa character, I think maybe we should make it so they decided to return to Shima in order to help with the Black Spring Event. And anyone who is using a Shima character is either already fighting in a battle right now or inactive. The inactive characters could just be found somewhere within the wreckage of the Black Spring Event, possibly blacked out during it so that you don't need much background on the Event since your character wouldn't remember much anyway.

Are you guys okay with sticking with the Black Spring Event and Kouri's Samurai idea as the main plot for now? Does anyone else have other ideas?

I like the idea of ninja vs samurai. Shima was already supposed to be a safe haven for clans because people feared them, making a samurai class would put a face on that paranoia.

Now if we're planning a war against the samurai, i propose a type of Anti-chakra movement. Maybe the samurai are tribes of people who can't manipulate chakra and/or have been harmed by bloodline traits. That would make Shima a desirable refuge for clans.

We could do a lot of things with that, like make it so the samurai developed a crude version of the 8 gates, but they could call it bushido or some other samurai technique.

I mean I don't remember what my sheet was in Shima, but I can scale her back a rank or three, whatever jounin would be so she can be all gruff with the academy students, put her somewhere after chunin when she wandered off to travel and jounin before Baki died. Or after. Somewhere in that time period. Definitely have her be a few years younger, like 16-18. She can have returned after burying Baki to seek comfort in the villagers, and that would give us a chance to design / test out the companion / summon thing.

Which is something to work on, I don't much like the idea of 'summon', I always feel like those are beasts that come from the great beyond. Weren't Kakashi's dogs always just chillin' somewhere else, then when he needed them he pulled out the metaphorical dog whistle and transported them via a seal they all signed or something? I don't know, I think 'summon' and I think Final Fantasy. Too many video games ...

The Tategami Clan has always been different in that either their members are given a lion that will always be with them (similar to the Inuzuka), but they're capable of, for example, going off to get milk and bread ( I just got out of work, just don't ... ) or deliver a message to someone, something like that, in which case they would be 'classified', per your standard, as a summon. I have mixed feelings about that. It's something to work on.

Since I don't remember black spring at all, but it seems to be a good place to 'start', I'm alright with starting there. Someone would have to do a write up, something like, "Last time on Shimagakure Z, we saw ..." blah blah, a summary of what happened and where we are, and the situation at hand. Story wise, I have zero qualms about anything anyone wants to do.

@ Semblance - I haven't talked to you since I was in graduate school. I'm not pleased. = n=

Black Spring isn't complicated. All that happened was Shima was supposed to be secret, the island was discovered and all Hell broke lose, the attacks left the island scarred as it looks in the subforum.

And... eh, Maya, i have no excuses for you. You know better than anyone about my personal problems.

Ahh ... .. .. .. yeah I don't remember Black Spring, but that seems to sum it up nicely. Which .. .actually is why Sawa started, Aya picked up and moved the village to a new secure location. Hum.

I do. I kind of forgive you. A little bit. My feels, they are still slightly hurt. I had to depend on status updates to make sure you were still alive! /totallywasn'tstalking
