And guess who was slouching against the wall again...? Honestly, Ryouki hardly got to leave that room, and even then it was mostly for food and other nonsense. Watching Rain, he decided to see if she'd talk today, other than the normal "get me this".
"You know, I don't know why he won't let you get to that LFO. It's not like you aren't ready, you flew it fine before they brought you here."
They told him not to mention the outside. He didn't care. It was that time of day when no one was outside the door to hear him, and the radio was switched off. If anyone overheard they either had a damn good ear or he was just a very unlucky boy.

Rain's head shot up from Eden. Her eyes searched the room until they landed on her forced companion. "What?" she questioned him. "I've never piloted anything before. The only LFO I've seen before this one is just this toy here." She held up the model of Eden to show Ryouki.
Rain shook her head. "You're weird," she stated and looked back down at the toy.
He's always saying weird things, she thought to herself. I just don't get him.

"This PLACE is weird....Gives me the creeps. Fine, keep thinking that..."
He glared at the door and wondered what he would do if that Ivan guy walked in right now. He'd shoot him. That's exactly what'd he'd do...If ever he found that guy alone, which was unlikely, he'd kill him. There was just something very wrong about wiping a young girl's memory like that. It reminded him of the blank eyes of a someone with desperation disease; it was like like they weren't even themselves anymore....
"Hey..." he said aloud, realizing that this girl only remembered the foundation "Was there ever a girl here...with black hair and eyes like mine? I saw those girls in the other room yesterday, they were all refugees. If they brought her here you might've seen her."

"No," she said simply. "I've never really been around any of the others. Ivan usually has me other places."
Eyes like his? She never really noticed Ryouki's eyes before. She hadn't been paying him as much attention as she used to when she first "woke up."
Getting curious, she got off of the bed, Eden still in her hands, and walked over to Ryouki. She got in close and inspected his eyes. As she continued to gaze intentively, something sparked in her mind. That color. That golden color seemed so... familiar. And yet... the girl could not quite place it. She felt like she'd seen eyes like that before, but she could not for the life of her remember.

"Damn...." Ryouki wondered if they would even let her remember her time here before. One of the scientists had briefed him on the foundation's operations, though leaving out certain parts. He did however know that the girl Rain had been here before she'd escaped, and that another girl from here had helped her do it. They didn't say any more than that.
It did suck though. She very well could've seen the girl he was looking for here but would never remember enough to tell him where she was now.
"Well, tell me if you see her. Though I guess that Ivan keeps you pretty busy..."
He kicked the wall lightly at the thought of Ivan. He did not like that man, not one bit.

Rain shook her head as she came back to earth and then backed away. "Alright, I'll tell you," she agreed, then started back to the bed.
At hearing him mention Ivan, she turned around and smiled. "Oh, yes," she said. "He does. He tells me that it's very good for me to exercise. Sure, he can be strict sometimes, but I believe it is for the best of intentions."
She casually clasped her hands behind her back and looked up at the ceiling. "We always take a morning run togther, Ivan and I," she continued. "Then he takes me to exercise and train. Today he did something special." She looked back at Ryouki and waited for him to ask about it.

Ryouki sighed and went back to lounging on the wall. He knew what she was doing, being the oldest in his family had conditioned him to this sort of thing.
"Oh and what did the high-pants do then?"
He wasn't sure what was creepier: Ivan himself, or the fact that Rain couldn't see how very wrong what that man did was. Of course he would never say that to her. She might tell someone, and this being a top-secret facility meant that they may just execute him instead of firing him and risking him revealing what they did here.

Rain giggled at what Ryouki had called Ivan. "Oh, Ryo!" she said. In the month that had passed, she had learned how to properly pronounce his name. However, she still prefered calling him Ryo and she didn't care if it bothered him. Once in awhile, she would even revert to calling him Ow just to tease the boy.
"He took me to see Eden!" she said, holding up the toy. "I never even knew Eden was a real LFO. Ivan even said I could have him, but..." she paused and brought the LFO closer to her, turning it over so she could look at its frontside. "Ivan said I have to work really hard to earn him. And that's what I'm going to do!"

"Work, yeah....Well not that it counts, but I personally think a girl your age shouldn't have to do these things. You know he expects you to be a soldier right? He'll make you kill people..."
Ryouki trailed off at that point. If he continued, he knew he'd start saying things he shouldn't say. In his opinion, this new trend of 'child soldiers' was just disturbing. Sure, Rain was in her teens obviously and so were alot of these girls...but they were still kids in society's eyes. Or at least, they were before all of this started. Now a kid of barely thirteen could be out piloting an LFO. It made him nervous just to think about how horrified he'd be if he shot down an enemy mech to find a child inside....

Rain cocked her head and looked at him curiously. "What do you mean, Ryo?" she asked the odd boy. "Ivan never said anything like that to me. He said I was special; that I would be doing things people could only dream of doing. He never said I would be killing people."
Rain kept her perplexed look as she walked back to her bed. She leaned against the wall and crossed her legs in an Indian style. "Anyway, I trust Ivan."

"Well, I don't." he said simply of that man "Just don't be fooled Rain. When he starts sending you on real missions you'll see. The first time you shoot down an LFO, the person piloting it is dead."
At this point Ryouki wasn't sure if he was talking from experience or trying secretly to make the girl see what was going to happen to her. But what did it matter? She wouldn't believe him, and even if she did there was no way to get her away from here. They didn't even give the boy a KLF anymore. Sighing, he tried to force a smile to lighten the mood.
"But like I said...I suppose my opinion doesn't matter on this. If you want to listen to Ivan I guess that's your decision...I hope he gives you Eden soon. It IS yours after all."

Ryouki was right, she didn't believe him. "I trust Ivan," she repreated again. "He would never lie to me, I just know it."
That shot he had recieved when she first met Ivan was what kept her from distrusting him. In it, it held something that made her completely trust and believe him. It also made it so she obeyed every command given to her by him. Of course, Rain didn't know that. She was blissfully unaware of the fact.
"You know what, Ow?" she asked rhetorically, calling him by the word she had first believed his name to be. She was looking down at Eden, thinking of what she had to do to gain him. "I think you're silly. But I don't mind."

Ryouki just rolled his eyes and looked the other way. Like he expected things to go that easily...everything in this place was disturbing and strange. It would be tough convincing her of something that seemed so odd to her, and doing it without crossing the line would be even harder.
"...LFO piloting is all hand-eye coordination. Same with a KLF. That's probably what you need to work on to get Eden back."
He tried to help her out a little; that mech was heres after all. Here they had her thinking she still needed to earn it, when she'd flown it like a pro out in the field just a month earlier!

That was what Ryouki thought; that she could fly it like an ace pilot. Truth was, she barely knew anything at all in the first place and she had to figure it out all on her own. Plus, now that her memory had been completely wiped away, or so the officials thought, she would have to relearn to pilot all over again.
In a way, it was a good thing, Rain would be able to get proper training for the LFO and would learn every aspect of it.
Rain shook her head. She knew Ryouki would never be able to see it the way she did, so there was no point in trying.
"Hey, Ow," she spoke up again. "I have some time before I need to go to my guitar lessons. Want to go for a walk?"

"Where to? It's not like there's many places to go here...but I guess if ya want.."
Like he had a choice. When she wasn't with one of her 'instructors', Ryouki pretty much had to go everywhere with Rain, to make sure she was kept safe. He'd asked one of the scientists about this the other day as well as other times too, but he always got that same answer. "Because we dropped these measures on the last child and things went very wrong" she had said.
They talked about this 'last child' alot here. For some reason though, they never mentioned the girl's name, like it was some kind of taboo. They referred to her only as "Project Destiny". He didn't know much, but it seemed that project had been the one who aided Rain's escape. Sometimes he wondered if that was why they didn't go into detail, not wanting the redhead to remember.
(((Foreshadowing! )))
