I must say I used to be a CloudxTifa fan when I first saw and played FFVII. However, I knew deep down in that little heart of mine that there was something between Cloud and Aerith.
Now, I have more logic on the concept by reading many articles about Japanese culture. The Japanese used TONS of symbolism in their games. Especially this one.
Want to know why I support CloudxAerith? Simply because she wears red. (Pink is a tint of red) And her hair is tied in a red/pink ribbon.
Red ribbons symbolized devine love before their time.
.....shall I go on? I have a lot of other examples and opinions.

oh thats great its nice to hear that! I started off as a cloudxaerith fan so ya! but thats great and yes there is so much symbolism between them it could make your head explode! whee there is even symbols showing that cloud and tifa are not meant for each other! but people try to put that to the side saying it doesnt mean anything which is just stupid if you have more I'd love to hear

That interesting thing about symbolism is that, like with anything else involving FFVII, is that its hit and miss. And since the creators never truly admit to anything that can be considered debatable. So symbolism on both ends can be accepted or rejected easily as long as thus supports a side. And new symbolism can be created.
A good example of such would be (I'll stick with astetics since its simple) the previous mention of red shades Aeris wears to represent present love to support Cleris. I have seen Yuffintine use this stance as well. This symbolism can be found in Cloti though because Tifa has red eyes and the eyes have more emotional ties in symbolism. Zaeris fans can also see the symbolism in that Aeris wears pink which represents fond memory attachments. Tifa wearing black and white is argued to portray moral conflict. Cloud wearing only one shoulder pad signs to others lack of mental stability, or Cloud having blue eyes that glowed showing a constant inner state of crying. Sephiroth wearing a cape the crosses an X over his chest suggests lack of heart/soul. Yuffie's green sweater shows greed. etc.
All of these are considered FFVII symbolism, but all of these can be contradicted with symbolism from another side. Its interesting to see the different types of symbolism different people will see, but I do not except symbolism as a sign of anything because the only symbolism a person will see is the symbolism they end the end want to see.
Feh... don't mind me... I'm being a sort of cermugin.

crying HE_HEAVEN_by_allymcbeal18.jpg" class="user_img" alt="User Image" /> Artist's Comments It's Aeris and Cloud. OKAY I KNOW IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE AERIS more like Yuna, because I based it off on the drawing Nomura made of Yuna and Tidus. Have you noticed how similar AerisxCloud and YunaxTidus are? One of them dies, the guys have blond hair, and the girl has brown hair. *Edited the picture to make it not so neon... >_> Aeris and Cloud © to Square Enix other picture[link form only] http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38599550/?qo=194&q=cloud+aeris&qh=boost:popular+age_sigma:24h+age_scale:5
