When Kurama finally entered, Hiei only offered a glare from his standing position by the window. He watched as the fox made himself comfortable and allowed a quick expression to show his annoyance. The only reason it was quick was because the exhaustion was really getting to the Koorime. He took the bait, justifying taking the spot next to Kurama by telling himself that the window wasn't nearly as comfortable as other ones. Surprisingly, part of that was true. His back was a bit sore. And so, Hiei sat (he wouldn't lay quite yet) next to the other, one knee up so he could put an arm loosely around it and let his head lean lazily against it. He was silent for awhile, but then felt the need to voice the obvious.
"We need to get the hell out of here."

// "I intend for us to leave soon by any necessary means. I can't, however, deny that I am overwhelmingly curious. What about, I'm sure you can guess," said Kurama in a relaxed way. He was in a terrible state; his eyes were half lidded, his hair in disarray, and his body seemed limp. The day had taken its toll and he rather hoped that Hiei would not comment.
Kurama was quite certain that he was only showing the weakness because the fire demon was so very near. Any moment that he could get close to him was a pleasure; this was no different. It also helped that he watched over the fox. The favor would have to be returned in some way, but an opportunity had yet to arise. // // The silence in the halls was broken by the humming and footsteps of a small demon child. Clenched in her hand was a letter; Kasai had given it to her to deliver to "that ill-tempered brat" and Kurama. The demoness' voice had hurt her sensitive ears as she went on about the pain in her stomach. Though she assumed that was what kept her from speaking to them herself.
She knocked on the door three times, waited, and walked in. The wait was a somewhat polite gesture that allowed them time to compose themselves. "Hello Kurama, Hiei," she greeted. "I am sorry for bothering you, but Kasai wanted to give you this." The child quickly set the paper on the bed, choosing not to hand it directly to one of them. // // Kurama and Hiei,
It seems that I'm quite mistaken. I had assumed for a good while that all the two of you needed was prodding, but I am no longer sure that my observations were correct. Within a day and a half, my barriers will no longer be strong enough to hold either of you. Then, you can go to your dear women and lead your boring lives. Enjoy yourselves. Frolic through your forests to train and play. It really doesn't matter.
I thank the shorter of you for my stomach ache. Let him know—or just know that—he/you is very lucky that my intention is not to harm either of you. If I were to want to, what would've stopped me? Death aside.
Kasai
P.S. Please, if I must ask one thing of you, treat Natsuka kindly. She is the only one, aside from Night's terrible pets, that is awake at this hour. //

It wasn't until then that Hiei noticed how exhausted Kurama looked. He stared for a moment. Sure, he'd seen him worn from battle but this was different. His hair, normally beautifully kept, was a bit of a mess. Hiei let his red eyes wander around the room. There was a small vanity in the corner. He had just grabbed the brush and returned to the bed when there were knocks at the door. He immediately let the brush fall from his fingers and to the bed. A string of curses went through his mind as well as, "What the hell are you doing?" but as the child entered, Hiei found himself narrowing his eyes.
He snatched the paper. After a moment he allowed the edges to burn and he gave the letter to the fox. He stared the child down. His eyebrow ticked.
"What the hell does she mean by prodding?"

// Kurama had been looking forward to what the other may have done with the brush. Perhaps he might have sat behind him and taken the brushing into his own hands. Or simply shoved the brush into his hands; that seemed more appropriate for him. Always expectant and rarely willing to help except in his own ways.
Reluctantly, the fox sat up, the thought of sleep seeming more inviting. He was tempted to ignore the child, Hiei, and the letter entirely. Still, he took the offered letter, carefully read it, and tried to figure her meaning.
"It implies that she was... pushing us towards some goal. The woman was not specific enough for me to know exactly what," he said, stating what was obvious, and then went on to say, "I could guess, but you would not be pleased with what I tell you."
Kurama wondered for a moment why he picked out that detail. Shouldn't he be pleased to know that the females intended to set them free? //

Hiei made a 'tch' sound. In the back of his mind somewhere, there was a fleeting thought that made his chest feel deep. He pushed it away and shook his head. He told the child to get out. Once he was satisfied with the door being closed again, he sat back and glared towards the ceiling.
"She wasted so much of her time and energy," Hiei mused darkly, tiredly. He saw that Kurama looked seriously about to fall asleep. He rolled his eyes and grabbed the brush, hesitating for a moment. Then he turned slightly and began brushing the other's long hair, slowly and a bit awkwardly. Not like he'd really ever brushed hair before. Hopefully the fox would be too tired to remember this in the morning.

// Kurama nodded at the comment, unwilling to do more. This entire scheme of hers seemed to have failed. There was nothing that she could have possibly gained. From the way the letter was written, it appeared that it meant she was giving up. From what little he knew of her, it didn't seem like something she would do.
But he was too caught up in the sensation of his hair being brushed to care. It felt wonderful, like a dream. How could such a simple thing feel so good? When exactly had Hiei learned to be so gentle? He suddenly couldn't remember the way reality dictated things. Or much of anything at all.
And if he could've seen his sleeping self, Kurama would be quite... well, somewhat embarrassed. Somehow, he had managed to fall asleep and lean against the fire demon, with one arm around his neck, resting on Hiei's shoulder. It was a wonder that he hadn't been shoved off by this point. //

Hiei hadn't even finished brushing the fox's soft hair when he was leaned on with an arm around his neck. He stopped brushing and set the object down. It was too hard to brush like this. But he wanted to continue. So the Jaganshi indulged and ran his fingers through the other's hair. But after a few seconds he stopped. His gaze hardened for a moment as if he were giving himself a lecture. Still, he made no move to disturb the sleeping fox. Though this time Hiei had difficulty with the deepness in his chest.
Luckily he fell asleep within the half-hour, from thinking too much.

// Kurama had leaned into the touch, bringing him a tad closer to the other, but that was the extent of his actions. As the night progressed, he mumbled a few incoherent things, Hiei's name among them. Assuming that he was lucky, nothing he said would be heard. Because, naturally, Kurama did not speak in his sleep; it was unbecoming.
The morning brought poor weather. The sunset-like color of the Makai sky was hidden by gray clouds, and rain seemed likely. The rumbling of thunder could be heard in the distance. It was suiting to the last full day that they would be trapped, given that they would not try to escape sooner. But somehow, wasting the effort didn't make sense. //

Hiei awoke prematurely. His sensitive ears had picked up the distant growl of thunder. But as he opened his eyes and tried to get up, he felt heavy. The Jaganshi became confused. The only times he'd ever felt this way was after using his Dragon when he had to hibernate. But he hadn't used it, so why did he feel this way? A shift and he felt a soft cheek against his own. Then his eyes snapped wide.
"Kurama" he groaned groggily, fidgeting under the fox's sleep weight. This only caused the other to sink more heavily and Hiei was pinned.

At his name, Kurama's eyes slowly opened. It really didn't take him long to see what was wrong with the picture—any onlooker might logically assume that... they were interacting as lovers might. Of course, to him, his position was absolutely pleasant, so it was with a note of disappointment and reluctance that he rose off of the other. He knew quite well that it must have been him that got them placed this way, and so he avoided Hiei's eyes.
"Good morning." To Kurama, it really was. The words were purposely said in an offhanded way, him hoping to play off the way they woke up.

Hiei didn't respond quite yet. He collected himself and sat upright, avoiding the other's eyes as well. "We still have today," he said, somewhat vaguely, as if he were just saying something to distract from the previous incident. He shifted a bit, looking oddly shy for a moment. He tried again to distract.
"When the others find out..." he trailed off. What the hell was he trying to say? Find out what? Nothing had happened. Nothing of huge importance. He couldn't even form proper sentences in his head. His thoughts were mixing into each other, scattered and distant.

"If they find out that we were gone," Kurama corrected, watching the flashes of lightning through the window, "we will tell them that my human family and I went on a vacation, and that you were running an errand for Mukuro. I asked Botan not to tell Yusuke or Kuwabara anything, but I'm not sure I can trust her to keep this a secret. Preferably, they will ask no questions and we will not have to lie.
In the case that they do figure things out, telling the entire truth would be... well, embarrassing is the word that comes to mind. Being trapped by a woman and child—and the child making us risk our lives to fetch a marker—would not go over well."

"Hn," Hiei managed, even if it wasn't a phrase or even a word. He was thinking about Yukina now, or at least trying to. The Jagan glowed under the cloth, but only moments later, Hiei had winced and shut his eyes. The Eye was giving him trouble again. Why now?
"The fool—" he said, pausing for a moment to collect himself. "would laugh himself to death."
Hiei shifted to grab the hilt of his katana, to try to help him focus. But he seemed awkward as he stood to remove the sheath from his belt and toss the weapon aside completely. He went to the window, away from Kurama.

Kurama found himself concerned with the way the fire demon acted. Hopefully, it had nothing to do with a certain earlier event. He wasn't quite sure how to comfort him. Maybe he would try to lighten the mood?
"Hiei, which one? Kuwabara or Yusuke?" Yes, that might help. The words in no way reflected his own feelings, of course, but the aim was to amuse the Koorime.

Hiei 'tched' and tried to get comfortably by the window. The patter of stray raindrops make him blink, but he ignored them. Which one? "Both," the Jaganshi said, hiding his momentary smirk. He lifted his hand and places careful fingers on the glass of the window. By increasing his body temperature, he was able to make a nice fog, covering a large portion of the glass. And to show his childishness again (unintentionally, of course), he spelled out "kuso" across the fog. He almost laughed at himself.
"We still have another day in this damned place," he pointed out, more because he was actually almost in a good enough mood to talk more. "I don't know if I can even wait that long."
