Tanyeera trotted along as scout, sometimes ranging ahead, sometimes dropping behind. Her grey cloak at times made her seem like a shadow among the trees, an illusion aided by the green of the clothes she wore beneath her cloak. It was at times rather difficult to spot her, but always she remained fairly near the party.

Adencia was in a daze, slipping in and out of slumber. She was comfortably warm in someone’s arms. Her vision was shrouded in a hood of blankets, though she could guess who it was that had her cradled in their arms. Once or twice Ekko flew and landed on her, peeking his little head under the blanket to peer at her – checking on her to make sure she was alright.

Garren carried the elf without a problem and felt her warm body against his, glad for the warmth in the cold rain. The hour was nearly up so it would be best that they figure out how to get the exhausted Adencia around right now.

“Sister, what do you propose we do?” Garren asked.

“Well I was wondering . . . I’d have to ask Adencia first . . . but it would work . . . it would work just fine.”

“We’ll that’s wonderful. We should do that then. Thanks for making it straightforward.” Garren said sarcastically in response to his sister’s vagueness.

“Oh, hush, Garren. I’ll ask her myself when we switch.” Isarelle sighed. No sooner did she say that did they change. Garren allowed a little of his strength into Isarelle’s arms so she could continue to support Adencia.

Isarelle walked to a large tree that had dry ground beneath it and set her down. She shook the Elf’s shoulder a little to wake her. Adencia looked up blearily.

“Adencia, if I may, ask a little favor of you. It will help us take you around.” Isarelle said sincerely.

“What would that be?” Adencia asked weakly.

“If you could transform into something small, something easy to carry.” Isarelle replied.

Adencia seemed to be debating. It would take much of the little energy she had gotten back and been able to keep.

“Please, if you do this you can rest for the rest of the day.” Isarelle reasoned, “I understand this is bit much to ask of you in your state but it’s for the best.”

“Alright.” Adencia sighed. Taking a deep breath she willed herself to change forms.

To Isarelle it seemed as if the elf had just melted away under the blankets. Pulling the blankets away she saw that Adencia had changed from her elvin form to a tiny, fluffy kitten. Isarelle smiled to herself as she picked up the kitten surrounded in blanket and held it to her chest.

“Thank you.” She whispered softly as the purring black kitten let its eyes droop and fell asleep.

Fueled by elation from the recent turn of events, Cerdik continued on in a rather chipper mood. He sat cross-legged a yard from the earth, a book also floating ahead of him. Occasionally, he would turn his hand over and the pages of the book would imitate his action. And although his attention was raptly set upon the text, he was not blissfully ignorant of his surroundings either. He was aware of the comings and goings of Ekko, and Adencia's situation, and the alteration from Garren to Isarelle (although for Cerdik, the change affected only his physical perception of them. He was still quite aware of any mental conversations).

He also helped pass his time by speaking to Ekko mentally. Whenever the bird was with him, he would share his most interesting finds. Though he knew the little avian would not comprehend, or at least not entirely comprehend, the many theories and complexities of watercrafting or summoning independent water avatars, he was also aware that his avid enthusiasm was easily portrayed. In exchange, he would attempt to 'listen' to Ekko for periods of time, and observe his little nuances in the hopes of building a friendly bond with the critter.

(This is a really boring RP XD we have all these fighters and nothing to fight we sme bandits or something) Thorn followed behind Garren/Isarelle leading Meena. Around midday Thorn saw something ahead on the path and called Tanyeera. "I saw that you were scouting around and I sure you also saw it," Thorn pointed up the path ahead to the shapes growing in the distance as the grew closer. "What is it?"

((Alright! Bandits, woo-hooo! twisted ))

"A barricade." Tanyeera replied quietly as she dropped back next to Thorn. "Not much of a big deal, just a bunch of branches and bricks piled up to stop us from galloping through so the nice gentlemen hidden in the trees thereabouts can frisk us for everything we have." she gave a shrug. "Big burly types, but their armor and weaponry are both in lousy condition, their sentries are sloppy, and they stink. They can't even shoot arrows anymore coz they've let the string on their bows rot through." Tanyeera's annoyance was clearly evident with such non-existant discipline to the point of not taking care of their own weapons. "I didn't tell you guys earlier because I couldn't believe how absolutely inept these people were and I was scouting a bit further ahead and trying to figure out if there was another, more serious threat in the area, using this lot as a smokescreen. As far as I can tell, there isn't. Looks like all we've got is some regular idiots."

"We one of the things my curse has taught me is never underestimate your opponents, many have found themselves utterly surprised when they are missing appendages because they thought that I would be an easy mark." As they got closer Thorn noticed the smell Tanyeera mentioned and saw some of the men in the trees on both sides of the road. The men tried to sneak out behind them as they reached the barrier. Thorn was ready for the coming scuffle. "We know your there you might as well come out. You are clearly out matched and I suggest you give up." Thorn spoke to the trees.
One of the men scoffed "Out matched? By a man holding a kitten, a lady, and two children. I doubt it, so how about you give us your valuables and we might let your women live."
"I don't think that is an option, but if you insist we will fight you and you will be disappointed."
"Why am I arguing with a child. I am sick of you people. Attack them!" The bandits advanced on the group and Thorn took out two with swing of his ax and another two in rapid succession.

"Underestimating them? Yeah right." Tanyeera snorted as she easily dodged an axe-wielding berserker and thumped the back of his head as he went past so he went down out cold. "Like I said, regular idiots."

Several more bandits appeared, screaming like maniacs in the hope of intimidating their opponents. Tanyeera wrinkled her nose and glared at them with a look of pure disgust on her face. "Drinking for courage? Or just trying to make us pass out with alchohol fumes? Gods, you deserve your thrashing."

Without further ado, Tanyeera was off like a wraith, easily ducking and dodging clumsily swung swords and grasping hands to deliver swift rabbit punches to faces and mule kicks to ribs. She left a trail of groaning or at least prone bodies behind her, without even once deigning to draw her own daggers, despite the various sharp implements her "opponents" had "wielded".

Isarelle was completely and happily oblivious to everything this entire time. Garren had dropped off to sleep again, he needed all the sleep he could get – they would be loosing much rest as days progressed. Meena stamped nervously but she paid not heed. She stroked the soft kitten that was Adencia fondly and held the warm little creature close to her. When they began nearing the blockade she frowned. There was a smell in the air that wasn’t right. She was just about to ask when someone grabbed her from behind.

The hostess gave a shout as she was roughly pulled behind and something pointy was pressed against her neck. Several others jumped out and circled around them all.

“Ello sweetheart.” Someone slurred into her ear. She now knew where the smell was coming from.

Giving the kitten a small shake she woke Adencia. Adencia quickly surveyed the scene and leapt from Isarelle’s arms. The man holding Isarelle laughed heartily at the sight of it trotting up to him.

“Awww,” the grungy man laughed, “She’s got a litt’l kitty. Th’ kitty is goin-a scratch me, is ‘e? He’s such a li’el kitty kitty.”

That little kitty got very scary very fast. It went from the little fluff ball Isarelle had been holding a moment before to a full grown black jungle cat. This was little more then enough to make him quiver in his boots, but he stupidly held his ground.

“Oi!” He shouted to the others, “You wanna stop beatin’ up me chaps! I got your li’l friend here and I wouln’t wanna hurt her pretty li’l neck.”

Cerdik heard the mentioning of "burly thugs" and instantly his heart was a-flutter. He hadn't experienced anything akin to true combat ever. He tried to calm himself via slow breathing as they walked, but all that he could think about was the possibility of getting himself kidnapped or killed. The multitude of scenarios playing out in his head was painfully frightening. He clutched his book tightly, walking now and watching their surroundings with a frightened stare; it was a dead give-away despite his attempts to hide the nervous shaking.

So when Isarelle was abruptly taken as a hostage he leapt back, and covered his mouth with a hand to stifle the scream that almost forced its way from his throat. He lowered it quickly, shaking even more as adrenaline poured into his system. He put his book away slowly, and stared at the large man for several seconds, until a throaty yell to his right startled him.

He turned to see a large man, surely twice his own height, running at him full speed, a broad sword held over his head. Cerdik swallowed, his mind racing for the proper spell.

He had very little time -- perhaps four seconds -- and then the man would be upon him, a large piece of iron lodged in his chest, or cutting him in half or -- ACT, CERDIK!!

Cerdik turned his gaze toward the ground, and raised his hands, as if to protect his eyes from the sun, and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Iene Gaiast, mien Gestert, lernt mek dienen Strakt! Saskt mek!"

The Earth itself, acting upon Cerdik's cry for help, shifted its very being. It reached for the sky, a sudden lurching spike protruding from the grassy skin, its mantle, and awaited patiently for its enemy to impale himself.

It did not have to wait long. With no time to stop, or even slow, the man merely screamed louder until he was interrupted abruptly by the Earth's protrusion. It ran him right through, or --to be more exact-- he ran himself through. He gasped, and dropped the sword, clutching instead at the dark soil which had compacted itself tightly until it was as strong as any man-made weapon. Surprise and confusion riddled the man's features.

Cerdik could only stare, frightened and shocked at how easily he had brought about death, and with the aid of his beloved Earth. He bit his lip, and threw his arms about himself, still shaking with fear, adrenaline, and now panic thrown into the mix. He didn't even notice the man approaching him from behind, a spear held ready to impale Cerdik's frail body. However, the Earth had heard Cerdik's plea, and it would hold up to its promise, however much pain it brought upon itself.

A second thorn of pure earthly material sprang forth, transfixing itself firmly within the brute's shin and calf. Momentum carried him toward the ground, and third spike sprouted from the earth like a deadly plant to drive through the tender flesh defending an unsuspecting throat. The last sound it omitted was a pained gurgle.

Cerdik was on the verge of tears, hands squeezing around his abdomen tightly. He couldn't take it! Watching these men fall and dieJieda! Jieda! Kes ber! Heshele mek! Kes ber viesekt!"

Like a loyal and unbending friend, bound solely by his word, the Earth obeyed, albeit with much sorrow in its soul. The Earth returned to its original state, only to morph once more. Cerdik dropped to his knees, and bent over at the waist, pressing his forehead to the grass.

Tears were pouring freely now, and the Earth, his surrogate-mother, wrapped its caring, strong arms around him and his entirety, a shield of solid soils defending the weak and tired mage. He cried, shuddering with sobs and gasps of air while a battle raged around him. He cried harder, feeling selfish for his acts, and even harder at the realization that he could not bring himself to face another bandit, or see another man die. He rubbed his face against the wild grass, wishing to be buried until all was over...

Isarelle was so surprised at Cerdik’s actions she stopped breathing for a moment. Even Adencia had her feline eyes fixed on the boy. It happened with such intensity most of the bandits fighting stopped momentarily to look. As soon as the second death took place everything moved back into action and Isarelle stopped holding her breath.

Ekko flew down to Cerdik’s side before the earth employed a shield around him. The bird did not flounder in the tight space as any other bird would, but remained calm as he looked at Cerdik as the young spell castor cried. Ekko hopped nearer warily and pulled at a lock of his hair before nuzzling Cerdik’s wet cheek with his soft head. The little bird hoped to bring comfort to this new friend.

Isarelle snapped out of her daze as she felt a sudden shift. Her hour was up – and not at a better time. The crude bandit tugged at her roughly but soon stopped as he discovered no longer did he hold a dainty lady, but a rather tall formidable looking man.

“Ello sweetheart.” Garren smiled impishly. The bandit let out a shout and dropped his knife to run but was soon flipped over Garren’s back and hit over the head with the hilt of his sword. One bandit down, several to go.

Garren looked to Adencia who stood on her guard – even as a terrifying jungle cat she looked exhausted and ready to topple over. He knew she wouldn’t be of as much help in this fight. He’s see her in action some other day.

“Take care of Cerdik!” he commanded, “I’ll help the others.”

Garren joined the fight with Tanyeera and Thorn as Adencia tiredly stalked over to Cerdik’s earthen shield. She growled menacingly at a fleeing bandit and the man ran faster. She pawed at Cerdik’s shield but knew it wouldn’t give way to her unless he called it off. With a deep breath she reverted back to her normal elvin form. The change that normally wouldn’t have fazed her once again brought her energy levels dangerously low.

Adencia laid on her side and tapped at Cerdik’s shield tiredly, “Cerdik . . . Cerdik, please come out. We must move from here. We must go somewhere safer for now . . .”

Tanyeera felt the earth move to protect its child. And yet... from what she had seen, Cerdik was almost more distressed at having to kill someone than he had been of the thought of someone killing him.

Tanyeera shook her head. He was so... inexperienced. Yet... his kind of innocence was worth preserving if possible. She hadn't been able to keep her own, but perhaps... shielding his to a certain extent might be possible.

She took a quick glance and saw that he had hidden himself under a mound of earth. Good. Then he wouldn't have to see the slaughter. But also... as she absentmindedly dodged yet another lout with an axe and kicked his face in, she tugged off a glove with her mouth and laid her bare hand to request a boon of the earth. That it might not only shield Cerdik's eyes from the horror of battle, but keep the sound from reaching his ears. Tanyeera judged the structure to be strong enough that none of these idiots could breach it, but still....

With a touch of relief, she saw Adencia was already there, she could guard Cerdik. She saw her lips move and managed to read them, even at this distance. She was asking Cerdik to come out... but then.... would he not be confronted by the gore and violence of the battlefield?

Abruptly, Tanyeera switched tactics. It was not punches and kicks she threw now, but balls of green flame. They harmed the earth not, not even a leaf ignited in their presence. But human flesh was a different story. Tanyeera thought of it as a cleansing, as flames hungrily gobbled up the bandits flesh and blood and bone. They barely had time to scream. In any case, by the time Cerdik came out, all the corpses should have been burned away and the bandits mostly fled. There wouldn't even be that much blood. It would be a much less traumatising sight for the innocent mage than bodies lying everywhere.
