Queeeeeeeeeestion!
Anyone know any good oboe duets that high schoolers could play? A friend of mine and I are going to do a duet together for our band final.

O_o I hope not for your sake. That could get bloody.
In fact, I can see the headline now, "Local Bassoonist Stabs Self to Death with Bocal While Attempting to March in Time"
It would be pretty gross.
Anyhow, yeah. I play bassoon too (ZOMG), and in marching season I was in pit. We just sortof showed up at the beginning of band camp while all the "real" percussionists had had sectionals all summer, though, so they gave us craptastic auxiliary instruments. I never want to see a set of windchimes again. -_-

O_O ....Really? I thought that was actually illeagal in most places. I play bassoon, it's the best instrument in the world and I've played flute in marching band the last two years, but this year I am taking up mellophone. I have it half-learned so far. Are there any other bassoon players that started on piano, then took up violin, then hated orchestra and switched to flute, then got moved to bassoon and loved it? I'm so alone...

I wouldnt say that marching bassoon is illegal. Just damn hard to do without either hurting yourself or breaking the reed.....

I had to play flute for marching season. I became pretty good, and I didn't mind the instrument, but I started getting separation anxiety. I missed my oboe.
*don't take the anxiety literally*

I play oboe (yayness) and Gaurd in Marching season. I'm the only oboe in my band and now all my friends want to learn how to play. I told them if they bought their own reeds they could play, cuz of the stupid $15 dollar reeds!! so yeah.. sweatdrop

My teacher has me go a little further out on the reed (closer to the opening) on those really low notes. Not a huge amount, but it helps me. It may just be the visualization that works. sweatdrop
